So, one of the brothers has a divorce bill to pay. Apparently they have magically ‘got over’ their acrimony and will stage a come back - what an amazing coincidence! I still maintain:

a) they were a derivative, naive, band with absolutely rubbish lyrics.

b) they mercilessly exploited the hard man, brotherly feud shit in pursuit of loadsamoney

c) they should just go away and not inflict any more of their talent on us

d) I am cross with myself for even posting about this because it gives talentless white macho males the oxygen of publicity.

Discuss.

To be fair op, your music taste lists is pretty crap-soz

So tell us yours then. Music is totally subjective of course but just saying “you’re shit and you know you are” is a bit uninspiring.

Shite 30 years ago, shite now. I saw them play twice and have never seen a band with more contempt for their fans.

Oochiesmoochies · 25/08/2024 22:29

The funny thing is they weren't all that popular in the 90s with the teenagers of the time. It was always a slightly older crowd (the late teens and 20's) that seemed to like them and made them as big as they were. Crititcally, past their first 2 albums they were rated pretty average by the music press.

I lived through that era as a teenager and bought a tonne of albums in that time but the only Oasis one I got was the Masterplan. I preferred the plethora of other bands of that era like Ash, Suede, Space, The Charlatans, Ocean Colour Scene, Embrace etc many of whom were critically way better than Oasis but didnt ride the hype train. I put Noel up there with Morrisey/Marr/Squire - curious men who have never mentally left the era in which they were popular.

But I was also a bit of a raver (sadly too young to attend any rave scene events which were mostly done and dusted by '97) but its good to see Fish56Octagon bringing it back to the modern day masses.

my current Spotify list includes:

My Brightest Diamond
Ramones
Sonic Youth
Ezra Collective
Jacob Collier
Little Simz
Sia
Mitski
Caribou/ Daphni
Vlllagers
Led Zep

I mean, you couldn’t really escape oasis in the 1990s. It doesn’t mean they were any good. It’s a bit like saying the food you love now is influenced by your 15-year-old love of findus crispy pancakes 🤷‍♀️

I’m not sure I follow the crispy pancakes reference.

I don’t know some of the artists that you list but there are none on there who stand out for me as being any good.

Controversially Ramones I always perceive to be a bit of a joke and Led Zep always felt very self indulgent and dull. But each to their own, DH loves Ramones in particular.

MuchasSmoochas · 25/08/2024 22:32

No one could touch them live in the 90s.
Quite a lot of snobbery on this thread, boorish louts etc. They, and many of their fans, came from a working class background. Capitalist? They had nothing. They made a lot of money and will bank more if this goes ahead, unless you are going to entertain for free then yes you are capitalist.

They were the sound of my youth-16 years old, Liam was beautiful and their zip up tops and parkas 👌
They’re also from not far from where I was from…I liked them and have good memories
Now…to reform 😬 not so sure
Nowadays, I prefer Noel, he’s v dry and funny…is it him that has the huge divorce bill to pay, just how large is it?!

He was beautiful? Blimey, that is truly a “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” thing 😂 To me he always looked like a potato.

But then I never was that interested in how my. my fave musicians looked … I loved Robert smith and also morrisey (now dead to
me because a racist) and they were both, uh, an acquired taste 😂

Never really liked them. Did find the Kevin and Perry thing with the northern accents hilarious for some reason when I was younger it made me laugh hysterically I was a bit of a strange teenager and never even smiled much but that was just too funny 🤷‍♀️😂

It’ll sell out in about 1.2 seconds regardless.

I will be in the queue #definitelymaybe

Perry's trip to Manchester springs to mind and all the Liam wannabes.

Exactly - it will mainly be the husbands of the crowd that go to Take That gigs to reminisce about the past whilst watching some greying men trying to remember the words.

This isn’t right. I went to Liam’s recent gig at the O2 and there were a lot of 30 somethings and families with young teenagers. It wasn’t all older guys.

that said I was surprised how many groups of blokes including one 30 something guy who kept putting his arm around me 🙄I am not sure I’d go alone to Wembley. I enjoy their music for the nostalgia of my uni years. At the time I preferred Blur although I think oasis’ music has stood the test of time a bit better.

Rainbowbrite83 · 25/08/2024 22:41

My vinyl copy of What's the story.. is worth about few hundred quid now apparently.

ttcat37 · 25/08/2024 22:41

Seeing oasis reform and seeing them live is on my bucket list. So many of their songs are like bookmarks for me.

Neighbours87 · 25/08/2024 22:42

So don’t go and see them then 🙄

Cattery · 25/08/2024 22:43

I bloody love them. Hope it happens.

UmopapIsdn · 25/08/2024 22:45

I won’t be going to any new concerts but I did love them back in the day!

Saw them at Murrayfield back in 2000, when I was a young un of 19. They were brilliant. Grin

How do you know none are very good if you don’t know them? 🤷‍♀️

Music is so personal but to me some bands get so much unjustified fame.

I’m so sick of sub-par white male dudes ruling the airwaves. Although it does feel a bit like things are changing slowly.

@Oochiesmoochies I was 16 when their music was everywhere, loads my age loved them and Blur, Pulp etc, we were also into old school house, so alternated between amazing clubs/raves and Indie nights and Britpop…Ahh the best days

dottiehens · 25/08/2024 22:47

Do not have to listen to them. 😂😂😂

Turnitoffitsboring · 25/08/2024 22:48

I also think a lot of their lyrics are good…it resonates a lot being from the North west & young at the time..it was a special time, if only we could go back hey

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/08/2024 22:48

Love the music, can't stand the personalities...

dottiehens · 25/08/2024 22:50

You lost me at white man dudes.

Messen · 25/08/2024 22:50

Blur were a class act, looking back now. They aren’t in my top 20 but they are musically pretty skilled. and they’ve gone on to develop musically,
