So, one of the brothers has a divorce bill to pay. Apparently they have magically ‘got over’ their acrimony and will stage a come back - what an amazing coincidence! I still maintain:

a) they were a derivative, naive, band with absolutely rubbish lyrics.

b) they mercilessly exploited the hard man, brotherly feud shit in pursuit of loadsamoney

c) they should just go away and not inflict any more of their talent on us

d) I am cross with myself for even posting about this because it gives talentless white macho males the oxygen of publicity.

Discuss.

@rainsofcastamere - are you always so aggressive?? Jesus.

Words are important.

If we only worried about words that affected us, then where would we be?

Don't bother replying.

I liked Definitely Maybe and What's the Story when they were first released. I came of age in the Britpop era, Oasis the soundtrack to many memories, especially the summer of 1995 I spent in London.

None of their subsequent music grabbed me and I was never a fan of the Gallagher brothers.

I have friends who will be clamouring for tickets on Saturday but I'm not interested in getting one myself. Time has moved on and I'd rather remember how they were in their heyday rather than trying to resurrect the past.

I feel very old.
I dimly remember some sort of feud between Blur and Oasis, and a fall out between the Gallagher brothers.
No clue about tribute to Beatles though. The things I have heard bear no resemblance.

Loads of my friends hope to get tickets. We were at uni then and Oasis were massive! So we are all in our fifties! Not all white or fat though ;-)

I won’t be going as I can’t face the hassle.

On any music thread, I am fascinated by how much people get angry at other people’s choice of music. Like the Taylor Swift threads. It’s very sixth form!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 30/08/2024 11:54

Agree very 6th form. As a wise young lady once said, "and find your peace of mind With some indie record that's much cooler than mine"

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 30/08/2024 11:57

If it wasn't for my (old, white) weak bladder, recent aversion to crowds and fond memories of watching bottles of warm piss fly through the air when I saw oasis at Finsbury Park I'd run my nan over to get tickets.

Those of you who get them - have a bloody amazing time Grin

SirChenjins · 30/08/2024 12:34

I agree with the earlier comments about the Beatles, definitely. I’ve always thought they sounded like a really bad tribute act fronted by a singer who sounds like Eliza Doolittle practising her aaaaayyyyyy, eeeeeeehhhh, ooowwwwwws

I guess it’s like coriander - some people love it, others feel like they’re eating soap. On the plus side, they are responsible for this bit of comedy gold so they’re not all bad

I'm ambivalent about Oasis as a band but charging £150 for a standing ticket is absolutely taking the piss.

That’s how much tickets for big groups cost these days. Not even on the higher end! It is insane I grant you.

Ticket prices have exploded since Covid. Billie Eilish 2025 tour was between £92.51 and £386 when they went on sale - tickets currently available for over £400. Coldplay’s most recent Irish dates were £69-431. Even relatively small artists seem to be £50+ for tickets these days. £150 is about what I expected and there are cheaper tickets available (though who knows how many in each category).

HowardTJMoon · 30/08/2024 12:52

Yikes. I just missed out on getting tickets to see The Cure a year or two ago and those were only about £50 each.

No different to my other band/artist

StarGirrrl77 · 30/08/2024 12:55

I liked their newness when they first started, and was very excited about them in 1995. But now I wouldn't open my curtains if they were playing in my back garden.

FrothyCothy · 30/08/2024 12:57

With streaming killing off making money from physical music sales, touring is presumably how most artists make their money these days.

I'm generally paying £30 - £40 for tickets at the moment. As I mentioned, the last really big band I tried to get tickets for was The Cure a couple of years ago which were about £50.

Cassidyscircus · 30/08/2024 14:05

I won’t be bothering going but I did spend the day with Noel Gallagher once and he did chat with me about touring with his current band and how gutted he was playing smaller venues (still thousands) in towns rather than stadiums etc. I’d never really thought about the downswing of massive fame like that before.
so I’m pretty pleased for him that he’s getting to experience the big time again 😅

everyone wants to make money and unfortunately we are the cash cows. Millionaires/billionaires touring to become millionaires again. I find it crazy that people are prepared to pay these prices by the stadium full. Oasis are at Heaton Park. It has a footpath round 3 sides and Sainsburys 1 minute from an entrance. You will be able to stand on the public footpath on the night and hear the gig. Find the right spot and you might even see the screens which 98% of the crowd will be seeing.

Itisjustmyopinion · 30/08/2024 17:36

The only ticket I have paid less than £100 for in the last few years was Taylor Swift where I managed to get decent seats for £65 on the day of the concert, nosebleeds but still a good view

I don’t expect to pay anything less than £100 these days. As pp’s said right or wrong it’s just the way it is these days

Heaton park is about 600 acres, you’ll be able to hear it but nobody without a ticket will get close enough to see a screen.

And if I just wanted to hear someone play I’d stick them on Spotify, a live concert is about the whole experience.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy a ticket, but I have no issue with musicians making money from their music, I’d rather than than some corporate conglomerate.

The costs of staging an outdoor concert are absolutely huge, I’d imagine they’re making much more money on the venues than the Heaton park gigs, the set up will cost an absolute fortune.

Especially since Covid live event costs have gone the roof, it’s why so many smaller festivals are folding.

Pedallleur · 30/08/2024 20:06

Costs fall dramatically with multiple nights in 1 venue. Erecting the scaffolding takes days then transporting/setting up the stage and moving it again. They are playing 4 or 5 nights so no need to move anything. If there are 50k there it's 5 million a night. If the show costs a million a night which it won't there is still plenty of money. Costs go to the production company which the Gallagher's will be head of.
