Oasis are reforming. Yack.

So, one of the brothers has a divorce bill to pay. Apparently they have magically ‘got over’ their acrimony and will stage a come back - what an amazing coincidence! I still maintain:

a) they were a derivative, naive, band with absolutely rubbish lyrics.

b) they mercilessly exploited the hard man, brotherly feud shit in pursuit of loadsamoney

c) they should just go away and not inflict any more of their talent on us

d) I am cross with myself for even posting about this because it gives talentless white macho males the oxygen of publicity.

Discuss.

I can't bear them, but have friends who are mad to see them again so I dunno.

HungryLittleCrocodile · 25/08/2024 22:05

Were they?! Why...?

The crowd. The earlier shows we're good humoured. People wanted to see the band. Later gigs there were too many blokes utterly pissed and starting fights. This was coupled with poor crowd management. There was a crush at one of the last I went to.

I always used to stand in the same place in the crowd, near the front.

I also got a lot more hassle off blokes. I went to a lot of the shows by myself even in the early days so again it was a change I noticed.

justasoul · 25/08/2024 22:10

Ooh I went to a foo fighters concert this summer and thought that was the last band I wanted to see live that I hadn’t seen yet - but if Oasis reforms, then my concert-going days are not over yet Grin

My mum forced me to see Jesus bands that were better than Oasis.

I love this so much

I'll be going to see them, can't wait.

Do we have to wee in a cup and throw it over the crowd?

If a load of 50 year old men want to take coke and shout “You’re my Wonderwall” at each other for 90mins, and Liam Gallagher can charge them each £250 for the opportunity to do so, who am I to stop them? 🤷‍♀️

Exactly - it will mainly be the husbands of the crowd that go to Take That gigs to reminisce about the past whilst watching some greying men trying to remember the words.

Turnitoffitsboring · 25/08/2024 22:14

They were the sound of my youth-16 years old, Liam was beautiful and their zip up tops and parkas 👌
They’re also from not far from where I was from…I liked them and have good memories
Now…to reform 😬 not so sure
Nowadays, I prefer Noel, he’s v dry and funny…is it him that has the huge divorce bill to pay, just how large is it?!

Oh dear. Sad Hopefully this time around, people are better behaved.

FrothyCothy · 25/08/2024 22:16

“Everything they stand for” 🤣

I’d go if there’s seating available but wouldn’t go to a park type gig - much harder to avoid knobheads throwing piss in the crowd and frankly I’m too old to stand up all day.

Something I really object to, more than anything Oasis related, is being told to "discuss" anything, how patronising!

Isn't that just a humorous nod to the way exam questions are sometimes framed?

Yep. Chillax fgs.

This is exactly what will happen and a good proportion will take their kids along for an education in how great things used to be in the 90s while they prat about like Kevin and Perry and the kids realise that most songs were wank even in the 90s (Live Forever excepted).

There's some big money to be made in nostalgia, just look at S Club, Steps and Girls Aloud in recent times! I reckon a £300 Swift-esque price wont be far off. Noel always was a champagne socialist.

Inastatus · 25/08/2024 22:18

I can’t wait and neither can 17 year old DS.

I’m interested to know what music you like OP. I’m no huge Oasis fan but they were hugely popular and I’ve heard newer artists cite them as being a big influence on them.

my current Spotify list includes:

My Brightest Diamond
Ramones
Sonic Youth
Ezra Collective
Jacob Collier
Little Simz
Sia
Mitski
Caribou/ Daphni
Vlllagers
Led Zep

I mean, you couldn’t really escape oasis in the 1990s. It doesn’t mean they were any good. It’s a bit like saying the food you love now is influenced by your 15-year-old love of findus crispy pancakes 🤷‍♀️

XChrome · 25/08/2024 22:19

Agree, OP. One of the most overrated bands of all time. The whiny singing voice alone is grating enough to make me want to shoot my car radio when they come on.
Boorish drunken louts are a dime a dozen and a massive bore.

I'm sure I'll be slated here but I think they were fantastic in their day. I absolutely love their music and it berings back great memories of my teenage years. Liam is a tool but totally suits being a rock star.

Agreed. Love their music. Indifferent towards them. There's tool-ier musicians out there.

Though I did see Noel when he opened for U2 a few years ago, does that count? 🤔

I’d say Oasis were better than any of those - can’t get through a single song from Led Zep or Little Simz.

Jamfirstest · 25/08/2024 22:23

I was die hard in the 90's oasis all the way. They were zeightgeisty as hell at the time. This is no longer the time but as my 14 year old sagely tells me 'all music now is just old bands being recycled'

Turnitoffitsboring · 25/08/2024 22:24

To be fair op, your music taste lists is pretty crap-soz

Messen · 25/08/2024 22:24

HowardTJMoon · 25/08/2024 21:55

I wonder how many concerts they'll manage to perform at before one or other of them goes off in a huff.

About as many as it takes before the publicity starts to wane and they need a little sales boost
