For inappropriate behaviour. No further details yet as to what specifically he has allegedly done.

Another one bites the dust then :(
It is so depressing and I thought he seemed ok on the one show

CuttySarcasm · 22/08/2024 18:22

Pleased they've acted decisively for once, I do wonder how more are starting to feel nervous for their jobs!

Offredismysister · 22/08/2024 18:33

Jermaine is originally from my home town, my brother knew him & played football at forest with him. I’m quite surprised by this as never heard anything untoward about him.
But, there must be irrefutable proof for his agent to drop him & for the BBC to sack him.

HelenWheels · 22/08/2024 18:40

text or twitter i think

I’m not at all surprised to hear about this. I don’t dislike him, but he’s always seemed a bit slimy to me - just vibes he gives off to me, but have no idea why.

One of my friends has always been convinced Jermaine is gay, not that there’s anything slimy about that, but he’s obviously married to a woman, and I’m wondering if she’s right and something has happened along these lines.

Here we go with the pointless speculation 🙄

Interesting. I’m all for tough action on inappropriate behaviour, so I’m absolutely not sticking up for him. But intriguing that Jimmy Savill was there for years, when his behaviour was an “open secret” and more recently, Huw Edwards was paid thousands by the BBC long after the allegations were made public - but the person of colour is sacked with immediate effect. Obviously none of us know the full story yet, and there may be good reasons for the differing treatment, but it’s interesting, to say the least.

Black people are always judged more harshly and quickly than their white counterparts.
White folk will get away with things that black folk can't and shouldn't. That's why crime figures are higher for black people, others are always on the lookout for a black person to mess up. Turn the other way if a white person is doing similar.

Just to clarify JJ does not have black or dark skin, I'm describing him as black as that's what HR equal opportunity forms would stick him under.

Also, JJ is a boring presenter, I turn TOS off if he's on it.
The rest are corpses as well but he's another level of bore.

tobee · 22/08/2024 19:14

I think the bbc definitely needed to act quickly because of previous issues with other presenters I don't think race comes into this.

I've always found him super bland as a pundit but better as a presenter.

HRTQueen · 22/08/2024 19:15

Twonewcats · 22/08/2024 17:06

Yes, when it's clear cut, though. If there's court cases or whatever going on, or if it's more dubious or lack of evidence, it's impossible to move quickly

I do not have your faith in the BBC

but they have their reputation to think about. that has seriously been damaged recently

Bilbonne · 22/08/2024 19:20

It's in the DM why

There's all sorts of shite in the DM - doesn't mean that it is true.

That's why I didn't link it or say what it was as people can make up their own minds and wait for the BBC to report it

Chewbecca · 22/08/2024 19:33

I wondered how he got the job in the first place as he was very inarticulate & now this.

Same here. Typical BBC fodder I suppose.

In fairness, while I don't disagree that there are often race issues at play - in this case you're comparing two very well-known and established presenters/personalities with an ex-footballer very few people would recognise. He was an occasional football pundit before making the leap to the One Show - he was right at the start of his presenting career.

Comparing JJ to Saville and Edwards is like comparing apples and oranges. Someone like Trevor McDonald or Lenny Henry would be needed for a fair comparison with Edwards or Saville, but let's hope they're not dodgy bastards too! I'd be so disappointed if Trev was a wrong 'un!

MorrisZapp · 22/08/2024 19:40

Jimmy Savile died thirteen years ago. Presumably following the horrific revelations of his abuse, the BBC have reflected and changed.

Bilbonne · 22/08/2024 19:44

He is just a minor presenter, people probably recognise him more because he was a footballer, if you didn't watch football or the One Show you wouldn't know who he was

ABirdsEyeView · 22/08/2024 19:45

Why do men throw away such highly paid jobs by doing stupid shit?
If I was his wife I'd be absolutely tamping! He earned nearly £200,000 per year and has seemingly just thrown it away! They have kids to support. And that's before you get into the personal betrayal aspects.

I suspect the BBC is coming down harsh on behaviour which would previously have been tolerated because they are under a microscope with the Strictly investigation and all the gross stuff coming out about Hue Edwards. In other times I doubt they would give a sit about inappropriate texts.

AnyFucker · 22/08/2024 20:03

They just can’t help themselves, can they ? Pitiful.

tobee · 22/08/2024 20:06

I've been trying to think of any women presenters who have done similar?

But I dont think your employer can sack you for being charged with a crime. Allegations and charges arent proof of anything. In HuwE case, he wasn't being protected, he was being treated as per the terms of his contract.
If I was charged with something, I'd hope my employer didn't sack me on the spot before any verdict was made.
In JJ case, presumably the complainant had more than enough proof of what he did. As with Graz from Strictly.
Edited to add - the BBC are also attempting to recoup the money paid to HE while he was suspended

I mean (assuming the thing with Jenas is sexual) can't think of a woman doing the equivalent at the BBC or wherever
