For inappropriate behaviour. No further details yet as to what specifically he has allegedly done.

Seems odd there is no police investigation corresponding with the dismissal. Usually they act when the police get involved. Whatever it is will probably come out in the wash in the Sunday papers anyway.

HeddaGarbled · 23/08/2024 01:33

I assume it’s because of the Huw Edwards furore that the BBC have acted swiftly in this case.

Jermaine is originally from my home town, my brother knew him & played football at forest with him. I’m quite surprised by this as never heard anything untoward about him.
But, there must be irrefutable proof for his agent to drop him & for the BBC to sack him.

I am also from his home town too and his family are a notorious crime family !

Twonewcats · 23/08/2024 02:13

New reports starting to appear, alleging several women have now come forward.

A common issue with 'famous' men who send unsolicited pictures or ask colleagues for inappropriate 'favours' is there lack of insight (feigned or real) about inequalities in power and the impact this has on a given situation.

With power comes responsibility and all too often they don't want to see or accept this. This chap's anger may be righteous and it could be a stitch up or genuine misunderstanding, however, many have come before him, and sadly, many will follow whereby men fail to accept that their position means that they have to exercise restraint - even if others in the same situation may not have to. Those who don't accept this, or acknowledge it, are simply misusing their power and deserve to have it stripped.

Bizarrely he is currently presenting 'Drive' on Talksport. I guess he (or Talksport) didn't know it was coming otherwise he'd have taken the day off.

Both he and talkSPORT found out at the exact same time, which was less than ten minutes before he was due to go live on air. They had a brief conflab on it and decided to go ahead with the broadcast - he's not employed by talkSPORT, which in turn isn't part of the BBC or publicly funded, and was doing the show as a one off to cover for a regular panel member who was unable to work today.

After the broadcast, which got millions more listeners than it usually would thanks to the BBC's announcement blowing up on socials and tS turning themselves inside out to let the world know they had him live on air, tS did an exemplary job of saying "Ta for the massive increase in commercial revenue we made from having you on the show Jermaine!" then throwing him under the bus and working like a one-armed wallpaper hanger to distance themselves from him as much as possible.

GogAndMagog · 23/08/2024 03:22

He's stupid and / or his ego is so stoked he thinks he can get away with anything.

Like lots of men.

I wonder if any man has started a thread about this and saying they are so sick of men's behaviour ??

When these people are on their phones or the internet do they never think what might happen if I send this txt, pic etc. If I touch him/her will I lose my nice job in television or radio? I guess they don't/won't/can't stop.

Well until very recently they were protected.

Good agent and friends.

Looked pretty on telly

Frankenstone · 23/08/2024 06:02

Well I hope the BBC is changing its ways and has started protecting junior staff and women from predatory men with clout in the corporation. I worked for the bbc as a trainee in the 2000s, straight out of university. The sexual harassment I experienced there was awful. I was fairly regularly harassed and propositioned by more senior often married male staff members with the promise that if I was a “fun girl” they would help my career and when I rejected them many went out of their way to make my life hard.

When I finally broke down and made a complaint about these men and what was happening to me and other young women at the bbc, it was me that lost my job. Honestly I was better off out of it but makes me so angry that the culture is such there that men like Jenas still obviously feel they can get away with this kind of behaviour.

Cast your mind back to 2003. Allegations were made by a 17 year old woman.

ALLEGEDLY, Jenas was implicated in this incident as was Craig Bellamy, Titus Bramble, Jermain Defoe, Carlton Cole and a couple of others.

Super injunctions were taken out

Thanks for sharing. At 17 though you're still a girl not a woman. That must've been a horrific experience and exhibits men in disgusting pack mentality 😭
When will men evolve? Feels like the average man is regressing into a porn addicted incel

Frankenstone · 23/08/2024 06:51

@Userxyd I think it was José Mourinho who said that he couldn’t understand why people idolised footballers, why men wanted to be them and women wanted to marry them, that in his experience many footballers were pure trash and that people should look up to and aspire to other professions such as teacher or doctor. He knows a lot of footballers well so I imagine he knows what he is talking about.

What players get paid, how they are idolised and the impunity with which they seem to be able to act has always baffled me. Many of them seem to be rather immature, unintelligent men who never outgrow their short lived glory days of running around a patch of grass chasing after a ball.

HelenWheels · 23/08/2024 06:54

everytime i happened to have the programme on i wondered who he was and who he was filling in for - i dont watch it

noemail · 23/08/2024 07:11

I thought they've handled this once very differently to the others and, but rather than going straight to race, my initial reaction was that either it must be really bad or that it's much easier to get rid of someone who's not important to you. He's not a huge name for them in the way Edwards was.

e.g. Where I work, drink driving is gross misconduct, but you're far more likely to be sacked for it if you're generally underperforming and someone they want to get rid of anyway, than if you're their top salesman.

I think probably, the difference is that this directly relates to his work and they have proper evidence i.e. text messages to colleagues, whereas Edwards was rumour about his private life.

I suspect this is more employment related than criminal, hence the reason the employer has been able to take action quickly. i.e. sexual harassment in the workplace, rather than CSE outside work.

Frankenstone · 23/08/2024 07:15

@noemail I suspect not wanting another scandal coming out how they knew about his actions but ignored the allegations as they did with Edwards is what pushed them to act quickly on this occasion. There is some speculation the press knew and were going to publish a story on it so the beeb had their hand forced.

Thiswayforward · 23/08/2024 08:25

Interesting that Huw Edward’s wasn’t sacked with much more serious allegations apparently. Jermaine Jenas sounds like texts/pics? Maybe it came under harassment. Maybe the bbc are going the no nonsense route now. He is probably the first in a list I would think. Particularly the way footballers seem to behave. It all seems very hushed with him disagreeing with the statement.

SheilaFentiman · 23/08/2024 08:42

If he was acting inappropriately in the workplace eg sexting, then it is easier for an employer to point to terms and conditions of employment. Also, he hasn’t been there that long, I think - if less than 2 years, easier to get rid.

As a Newcastle fan, I remember this period of time well. There was some despicable behaviour both on and off the pitch, and it seemed like some sort of heyday for players to do what the fuck they liked. It was shocking.

Titus Bramble was accused of rape alongside his brother in 2010. He was released without charge (although his brother was charged) There was a further allegation of sexual assault against him a year later though and he was dropped from his then club, Sunderland. There were also issues with drugs.

Craig Bellamy's conduct as a player was disgraceful. He's been banned from driving twice and had many controversial moments. He's now the Wales manager.

Agree with what a PP quoted from Jose Mourinho. Why the fuck do people idolise footballers? Most of them are selfish, entitled pricks.

crumblingschools · 23/08/2024 09:01

I’m assuming it is easier for BBC to act here as it happened in the workplace, so one employee to another.

HE was outside the workplace. Also I am sure some people do try it on with malicious allegations so have to be careful how handed, hence the suspension

Where’s the evidence of that? Have they been in the news?

EsmaCannonball · 22/08/2024 23:01

I've just read that the BBC paid him £190 000 a year. This is what I find baffling. He was bland and wooden and never had anything interesting to contribute. Nobody would ever tune into a programme because he was on it. He was utterly replaceable, so why did the BBC consider him such a draw?

thats what I wonder. he is so bad as a presenter. just tries to talk football all the time.
I don't get why people like him (Alex scot is equally bad) get these jobs.

Bilbonne · 23/08/2024 09:42

He wasn't that important as a presenter as he just worked in a revolving team who seem to be on the One Show and the other similar show that BBC runs in the mornings so easily replaceable. I guess they had the evidence so probably very easy to sack for gross misconduct.

Summerose · 23/08/2024 11:07

CrushingOnRubies · 22/08/2024 17:38

I've never really liked him as a presenter. And don't feel that shocked that he's been sacked somehow.

So people ought to be sacked just because you don't like him. Did you ever say that about Hugh? Or does it only apply to Jenas?

Summerose · 23/08/2024 11:11

TransformerZ · 22/08/2024 19:05

Black people are always judged more harshly and quickly than their white counterparts.
White folk will get away with things that black folk can't and shouldn't. That's why crime figures are higher for black people, others are always on the lookout for a black person to mess up. Turn the other way if a white person is doing similar.

Just to clarify JJ does not have black or dark skin, I'm describing him as black as that's what HR equal opportunity forms would stick him under.

Also, JJ is a boring presenter, I turn TOS off if he's on it.
The rest are corpses as well but he's another level of bore.

Well.... whatever he's being g accused of, I highly doubt it will be anywhere near what Huw did.
