Sounds horrific

They have him arrested thankfully

Allthehorsesintheworld · 12/08/2024 14:53

my heart sank reading this.
Woman and child injured, taken to major trauma centre but well done Abdullah who seems to have restrained the attacker. He and his colleagues have saved lives today.
From Sky News
An 11-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman have been stabbed in London's Leicester Square.
A security guard said he "heard a scream", then "jumped on" the man who was attacking the child before holding him down and taking the knife off him.
Abdullah, 29, said he and his colleagues gave first aid to the child before police arrived.
"I just saw a kid getting stabbed and I just tried to save her. It's my duty to just save them," he said.

Leicester Square: Girl, 11 and woman, 34, stabbed in London - BBC News

Man arrested, police don't believe anyone else involved ("no outsranding suspects" - which seems a bit odd an odd phrase, and I assume that's what they mean)

Close to the Lego store

Horrible Sad

Blue and white police tape in front of the scene of the stabbing with bits of white paper and cloth on the ground and a crowd of people

Leicester Square: Girl, 11 and woman, 34, stabbed in London

The Met Police says the two victims were taken to hospital and their condition is unknown.

mytuppennyworth · 12/08/2024 15:03

was he known to his victims?

MissRachelismycoparent · 12/08/2024 15:04

So sad, the amount of parents who will have taken their children to London over the holidays. Nowhere feels safe anymore

Comefromaway · 12/08/2024 15:05

Oh my. The place will have been packed for the school holidays. We were there last Monday and there were queues outside Lego & M & M world was very busy.

TWG Tea where it says Abdullah works is one of dd's favourite shops. What a brave person.

TuesdayWhistler · 12/08/2024 15:05

Leicester Square.. not exactly a quiet back alley.
How the hell did this happen?

Knife crime seems to be a major major issue in this country. It seems to happened every other day, and I bet we don't hear about half of it.

mytuppennyworth · 12/08/2024 15:03

was he known to his victims?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was the case.

Eldrick47s · 12/08/2024 15:07

Outside the Lego store FFS. These cowards target places where the most vulnerable will be.

And yes well done Abdullah.

opposite M & M world too where loads of kids go. I'd put money on it that the attacker is known to them though.

From Sky news:

A witness, who performs as Darth Vader, said he saw a young, white, skinny male dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans putting the girl in a headlock and stabbing her

So will be mental health issues rather than terrorism.

Or another incel, something needs to be done about online hatred and violence against women and girls. It's leading to more and more attacks.

Deepcalm · 12/08/2024 15:34

Shocking, in broad daylight

OuterSpaceCadet · 12/08/2024 15:36

"Mental health issues" aren't so different from terrorism IMO. The radicalising factor is simply the very society we live in. The men claiming mental health often are choosing their victims. The vast number of people with mental health issues don't violently attack. Violent crime is hugely disproportionately carried out by men, despite women also suffering mental health issues.

SaintHonoria · 12/08/2024 15:48

The young man they arrested is calm and composed and not ranting or deranged.

Absolutely chilling and sickening act of violence /

Inlaw · 12/08/2024 15:51

If it's an incel than that is terror.

Someone needs to get that defined properly and raise it as an issue.

Beth216 · 12/08/2024 15:52

Horrible incident, wouldn't surprise me either if he knew the victims.

Well done Abdullah though, only in his 20's himself, jumping on the attacker and kicking the knife from him.

SquirmOfEels · 12/08/2024 15:54

Today, the BBC is running an article about the failings in the care and treatment of the man who stabbed Barnaby Webber, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates.

Valdo Calocane: Doctor warned Nottingham attacker 'could kill' - BBC News

The failings are shocking.

The police haven't said anything about the likely motivation of the attacker. I suppose the obvious possibilities are that he was known to the victims, or that there are MH issues. (Not that everyone with MH issues is dangerous, of course, but sometimes someone is).

How are you managing to join up the two? Or is it speculation?

SonicTheHodgeheg · 12/08/2024 15:54

Very brave Abdullah 👏

I wish the victims a speedy recovery.

What a brave guy Abdullah is!

Comefromaway · 12/08/2024 16:31

Brave or stupid, I don't know which. But whichever the two victims have a lot to thank him for putting his own life on the line like that.

TheGriffle · 12/08/2024 16:32

Always women and children. These ‘men’
don't go stabbing 40 year old male body builders
do they. Fucking cowards.

I hope the woman and child make a swift recovery.
