Breaking news just in

The BBC article says the MET don’t believe the attacker was known to the victims

SquirmOfEels · 12/08/2024 16:37

BBC has updated its article to say that the girl's injuries are serious but not life-threatening, and the mother's injuries were more minor.

Abdullah not only intervened to end the attack; he also (with work colleagues) administered first aid, whilst two other men held the attacker down.

If it's an incel than that is terror.

Someone needs to get that defined properly and raise it as an issue.

Totally agree - misogynistic terrorism

Lorapots · 12/08/2024 16:39

OuterSpaceCadet · 12/08/2024 15:36

"Mental health issues" aren't so different from terrorism IMO. The radicalising factor is simply the very society we live in. The men claiming mental health often are choosing their victims. The vast number of people with mental health issues don't violently attack. Violent crime is hugely disproportionately carried out by men, despite women also suffering mental health issues.

I assume that previous poster who said it’s mental health and not terror is being sarcastic/tongue in cheek .

Like highlighting the irony that when it’s an angry white men there’s a jump to “mental health reasons” more often than if it were say a brown man with a beard in which cases it’s “terror”.

I agree with you though, there is an overlap. I still feel these misogynist men with “mental health issues” have some agency, and are terroristic like the Australian man who went on a rampage in the mall targeting all women except the security man who intervened.

WalkInAStraightLine · 12/08/2024 16:40

The Met said it was "not looking for anyone else" in connection with the attack and does not believe the victims knew their attacker. It also said "at this stage" there was no suggestion the stabbing was terror-related.

My assumption (happy to be corrected) is an angry man who got upset about some stupid perceived slight and/or was looking for a trigger to lash out at someone unlikely to fight back.

Thank god for the man who jumped in to help.

JamSandle · 12/08/2024 16:41

As usual, women and children the main victims of senseless violence.

itsgettingweird · 12/08/2024 16:42

I hope the girl and woman (her mum?) are ok. I can't see anywhere it states any relationship of the victims or accused?

But yes Well done Abdullah Halo what a brave young man.

Ds and I were walking through Westminster the other day and I was fighting the feeling of being unsafe in busy London. But there's police everywhere there. However it takes 3 seconds to stab someone. These people are utterly vile.

All the protection in the world nearby won't stop these people. But we need to find a better way. Knife crime is out of hand and that poor girl and woman will be affected for a lifetime regardless of the accused getting found guilty and jailed.

EasterIssland · 12/08/2024 16:43

Glad they’ve arrested him and that the woman and child will be ok(hopefully they’ll receive the right support).

I also thought they might have known each other.

I think it's obvious that the poster was talking about the speculation that it was an incel not that it was a women and child

It's awful, I wouldn't be surprised if it was another attack on strangers , rather than someone who knew the victims though.

Why would that be of any relevance?

Basically it could any of us anytime. This is way too many stabbings and lately we see more kids attacked. How sick is this? Are we meant to be brave? I not longer feel safe and not comfortable going out.

wonderingwandering99 · 12/08/2024 17:40

The rise in these random, out of the blue attacks are really frightening me.

The poor little girl stabbed in a park in Manchester, teenage boy stabbed with a sword
in north London, the Southport tragedy, now this…. It’s so scary as there’s no way the victims could’ve helped themselves.

What’s causing this? I’m scared to go out with my little boy.

So sad, the amount of parents who will have taken their children to London over the holidays. Nowhere feels safe anymore

London has always been the least safe place.

InkyPinkyPonky24 · 12/08/2024 18:03

This is so sad, I've been watching the coverage on it all afternoon.

Abdullah was absolutely amazing and he probably saved that little girls life.

I hope they both make a full recovery.

BlackShuck3 · 12/08/2024 18:08

Abdullah is a man to look up to and be proud of.

HansHolbein · 12/08/2024 18:13

Another disgusting man. Hard not to hate them all.

Another women and girl have been stabbed and this is what you choose to focus on?

Lorapots · 12/08/2024 18:17

so horrific, I wonder if they’re all getting inspired by each other?

Like each one sees a news report about some heinous crime committed against kids and women be it the Southport killer or the man in north London who killed the teen with a sword and then decides they’ll be the next to get the moment of “fame” and then so on, it’s disgusting.

Yes that's what is scary even with police presence.. it takes seconds to stab someone fatally and they don't care if they get caught. They don't care about anything.. that's what makes it scarier.

It was in reply to my now deleted question. It was pertinent.

You have no men in your family then? What a sad way to think.
