20.07.2024 - Three young girls (6, 7 &9) murdered in mass stabbing attack in Southport whilst attending a Taylor Swift themed dance class.

08.08.2024 - Terror plot foiled at Taylor Swift concert in Vienna. Majority of audience females - pre-teens, teens and young adults.

12.08.2024 - 11 year old girl stabbed repeatedly in Leicester Square. Mother was not injured, seems intent was to stab the child specifically.

All three incidents are targeted at young females.

No reason given so far for either the Southport or the Leicester Square attacks, expecting them to be due to mental health reasons. But I do wonder why the girl in Leicester Square was stabbed. Apparently the attacker had been hanging around in the area for some time before injuring the girl, why choose that particular one? At 11 she’s in the age range for many of Taylor Swifts fans. So - pure speculation - was she wearing a Taylor Swift t-shirt, and is there some online group for dysfunctional men which is advocating violence against Swifties?

Violence against women has been prevalent for years, but public violence (as opposed to domestic violence or abuse) of young girls seems a new and worrying phenomenon. I assumed the Manchester concert bombing was just an opportune target for a local terrorist, but now I wonder if Ariana Grande having so many young female fans was actually the draw.

If so, how the hell do we keep our kids safe?

Bloody hell the mother and daughter are Australian tourists. What are the chances of such a thing happening when visiting another country.

so horrific, I wonder if they’re all getting inspired by each other?

This is now looking like social contagion. It is very worrying. Absolutely awful the number of victims this year alone.

@StarrySkiesAtMidnight i don’t doubt that being able to harm young women annoying music and freedom was absolutely part of the reason for targeting the AG concert. From memory I think the review said misogyny had been a factor.

you rightly make the connection between those 3 incidents - it is femicide. And in the case of the TS concert and the Ariana Grande one, it’s driven by the same rage as the Iranian regime who rape and murder women for having their hair uncovered or singing in public.

I was watching the netflix series about the murder of Laci Peterson in the US by her dh. She was heavily pregnant and they said that the most common cause of death in pregnant women is murder. I'm sure I've heard that DV often starts then too. What is that all about? Why are some men more likely to kill or injure women when they're pregnant?
I know the attacks mentioned in the thread didn't involve pregnant women, but it's still on the topic of male violence against women and girls

Looks like good news.

Well I would call that sobering news. The gov obviously know what happened at Southport and I am assuming this was one of the compounding factors.

The comment section is incredibly disturbing. Surely these men realise it’s talking about men who murder women for misogynistic reasons? Yet they are talking about efforts to combat that as if it’s the downfall of society. What is going on?!

@GabrielOakRose I wonder if there is something about men realising they will have to share ‘possession’ of a woman that triggers them?

Or, thinking about it with more empathy for the fact that men soak up toxic messages about masculinity throughout their childhood and adolescence, the prospect of responsibility for providing and protecting might trigger anxiety which tips into rage?
