No, BBC says it was a girl and her mother. Really hope they recover ok. That security guard is a hero.

thanks for confirming.

Anyone caught in possession of a knife in public goes to prison. There is no need to carry a knife.

Another women and girl have been stabbed and this is what you choose to focus on?

It wasn't me that focused on the hero's name.
My comment was apparently too edgy anyway, so it's been deleted.

There is an interview with Abdullah on the BBC News story.

Well done him for rushing in. I know you shouldn’t but I’m glad he did.

Blue and white police tape in front of the scene of the stabbing with bits of white paper and cloth on the ground and a crowd of people

Leicester Square: Girl, 11 and mum, 34, stabbed in London

A shop security guard says he intervened to stop the attacker and helped give first aid to the child.

The rise in these random, out of the blue attacks are really frightening me.

The poor little girl stabbed in a park in Manchester, teenage boy stabbed with a sword
in north London, the Southport tragedy, now this…. It’s so scary as there’s no way the victims could’ve helped themselves.

What’s causing this? I’m scared to go out with my little boy.

Oh Bless You

I was You once , 1991 with my first born Son
At that time in our area people were taking to slashing babies in their prams
However, to this day I wonder if it was even true as i was pre Internet of course

All you can do is be aware of whom is around You and keep your little boy close.

Its horrible times in the Country right now, and the World in general

Penguinsa · 12/08/2024 19:06

Very brave Abdullah, likely to have saved lives today. Glad people like him exist.

The case by us was a boy that was killed and a man who had paranoid schizophrenia and had warned police repeatedly he planned to kill children. Because of the complete underfunding of mental health services nothing was done and Harley paid the price. Schizophrenia is very different from your average mental health issue and the shaming of people with it and stigma and underfunding and blaming people for their actions whilst under in just fuels the issue.

Muffin101 · 12/08/2024 19:06

Just awful. Senseless. Poor girl, and her poor mother, just trying to live their life and enjoy their summer.
Abdullah sounds like an amazing person, thank goodness for him and his brave actions, and those who also helped.

Good, it was a pointless twatty comment

Because you said why do so many with mental illness attack children which I took as why are people with mental illness allowed to walk our streets as their so violent. But if you didn't mean that an actually meant its an excuse and clearly not mh related as why would it not be a grown man they attack instead of someone weaker and more vulnerable then them, then I agree with you and it gives people who genuinely suffer from mental illness a bad name.

It was too edgy. If Southport hadn’t happened maybe you had a point but 2-3 weeks ago the news were full with the name of the yoga teacher and her name and many comments were about her bravery.

the fact is that Abdullah had done what not many would have done , risk his life to rescue others.

Coincidentally today, the BBC is carrying an article about the Nottingham attacker (linked earlier) and the many apparent failing of MH services. He killed two men and one woman. It's not always the case that children are the victims. Nor that everyone with MH issues is dangerous to others.

I expect we'll hear more about the motivation of this attacker idc.

Right now, I have immense sympathy for the mother and daughter; and huge admiration for Abdullah, the other two men who helped restrain the attacker, and the other staff who administered first aid

This makes me so mad. The police, drs, crisis team need to actually start listening to people. Iv been under mh services most of my life and had multiple dealings with all these services and i don't think people realise how common it is to be ignored and brushed of when your making very serious threats. I have admitted to the crisis team, cmht, gp,psychiatrists and the police about suicidal and homicidal thoughts and plans and their very rarely taken seriously. You get either you have capacity so it's on you, or we will up your benzos and call you tomorrow to see how you feel. I don't think people realise how long 24hrs is when you feel that way.

ApplesOrangesBananas · 12/08/2024 19:30

They said not terror related but sure sounds like it for me… dread to think what could have been had that hero not stepped in. I’m so paranoid I always avoid these areas and now I’m even more scared to go

Corksoles · 12/08/2024 19:31

OuterSpaceCadet · 12/08/2024 15:36

"Mental health issues" aren't so different from terrorism IMO. The radicalising factor is simply the very society we live in. The men claiming mental health often are choosing their victims. The vast number of people with mental health issues don't violently attack. Violent crime is hugely disproportionately carried out by men, despite women also suffering mental health issues.

I totally agree with this. Very well put.

Donotneedit · 12/08/2024 19:43

old article and perhaps other research trumps it but violence (when it does occur ) is seen as an issue across both male and female mental health patients https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14724956/ But of course the article does state that male violence tends to be more severe and can more likely end in rest, it doesn’t mean that women are not perpetrating violence though.

I do wish we could have a more nuanced conversation about this, rather than just slagging off all men, jumping to unsubstantiated conclusions about whether someone is an Incel,, and denying the suffering of male victims

Abdullah is a hero. He acted bravely and selflessly. His humility in doing so is also very apparent, no machismo in his TV interview and giving credit to others who helped in the situation. We could do with more men like him.

Another disgusting man. Hard not to hate them all.

Another man came in unarmed and fought the guy off. Impossible to generalise, there are good men out there

BESTAUNTB · 12/08/2024 19:58

Brilliant security guard!

Agree, seems like a great guy. No limelight sought, just doing what he thought was right

bitesthedust · 12/08/2024 20:00

and GBNews already comparing to the stabbings that were used for excuse for the riots😖

Efacsen · 12/08/2024 18:36

In what way is Abdullah's nationality 'pertinent'?

I wondered when I read about this earlier, whether it was to make it clear that he was nothing to do with the attack and that he was helping.

Imagine if someone shared video footage on SM - the sight of a middle eastern man involved at all might be enough to set the idiotic thugs off again.

Regardless, it was very brave of him - there are good people in this world.

BunfightBetty · 12/08/2024 20:10

Shocking. Abdullah deserves a bravery award. Thank God he was there today.

Hope the girl and woman make a swift and easy recovery and they are given every assistance to come to terms mentally with what has happened to them. Hopefully that bastard won’t have ruined their lives.
