Does anyone else have a tea towel drawer?

Friend was over for dinner last night and asked for a fresh tea towel.
I said "sure, over there in the tea towel drawer".
She couldn't stop laughing and said she'd never heard of such a thing 😳

Anyone else have a whole drawer dedicated to just tea towels?

(Confession time - I LOVE tea towels 😁)

(panics slightly) what if they're both dirty at the same time?

Given that tea towels are for drying dishes are clean (because they've been washed) they tend not to get particularly dirty.

PashaMinaMio · 08/08/2024 15:52

I have a organised drawer in my kitchen stuffed with beautiful tea-towels and kitchen hand towels.

Tea towels get ironed and I have clean one two or three times a week.

I buy nice tea towels as holiday mementos. Better than a fridge magnet and far more useful.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 08/08/2024 15:57

Tea towel drawer, separate drawer for microfibre cloths. Another cupboard with table cloths, napkins etc. Then a big linen cupboard which actually houses my excessive collection of cook books

Oblomov24 · 08/08/2024 16:02

Doesn't everyone? Silly friend.

UtterlyOtterly · 08/08/2024 16:21

One main tea towel drawer here but my favourites - souvenir ones - are tucked away elsewhere and only I am allowed to decide when they are used.

Plain and stripes on the left, pictures on the right.

Yes, I'm a tea towel control freak.

Oldraver · 08/08/2024 16:26

Yes but it's a tiny drawer in one of those kitchen trolley things

Every time I buy new tea towels I have to cut off a couple of inches

CharliesAngles · 08/08/2024 16:30

@CatrionaBalfour
"Was it your neatness and organisation that your friend was laughing at, or the fact you had tea towels?"

OK, so now I've asked what she found so funny, she said it was the fact that they had their very own drawer to live in, and it just seemed such a grown up thing to have! (And, of course, the wine consumption over dinner played a part no doubt).
We've known each other since our very first day at uni halls so this is adult territory compared to those days when we could barely "cook" a pot noodle 😂
She says she has a total of 4 tea towels, and yes they do hang over the oven door, or under her sink cupboard.
I've pointed out the error of her slovenly ways and how they must reside in a dedicated drawer and the next opportunity we get together, we will take a trip to TKMaxx for more tea towels, so win-win 😁

We don’t because we don’t have many drawers. We have four tea towels and keep the three not in use under the sink with dish cloths and cleaning supplies.

Our kitchen is small but perfect imo.

That's very sad @VividQuoter 💐

well, at least I tried, without even expecting an invite in return. And when I cook, it is a lot and it goes very well down! Even so, I got shit with trying for friends , two couples, one from my country, the other English LOL

whoever has not got luck in all things, has got at least some in few other areas, so it gets balanced

BestZebbie · 08/08/2024 13:45

Of course! Don't most kitchens have three drawers of increasing size built in - the top one for cutlery, the bottom one for textiles (tea towels, aprons, tea cosy, cloths etc) and the middle one for all the potentially useful crap less than a palm width in size that would otherwise accumulate all over the rest of the house? (or maybe that one is for a whisk, rolling pin, silver foil etc :-) )

Only more modern kichens. I have precisely three in mine 😂

JT69 · 08/08/2024 16:51

Yes I have a drawer and most of the tea towels can’t be used . Woe betide anyone that uses my Dave Grohl tea towel !

gardenmusic · 08/08/2024 17:06

My house is for sale. I have a stunt tea towel. It is yellow and neatly folded.
This is better than holey, faded and slightly tea stained.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 08/08/2024 17:09

I have a tiny kitchen but still have a tea towel drawer.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/08/2024 17:13

Yes. We have all of four drawers in the kitchen and one of them is dedicated to tea towels. It's convenient.

yomellamoHelly · 08/08/2024 17:14

In a stack in a cupboard next to the dishwasher tabs, rinseaid, salt etc.

There was a time once when we had no tea towels. Now I look for one as a souvenir when we go away!

HappyMouse · 08/08/2024 20:13

Yes! Growing up we had one and now I'm an adult I also have one. A few other bits sneak in but everyone in our house knows the tea towel drawer 😁

BruFord · 08/08/2024 20:15

My tea towels are kept in a drawer with the foil and greaseproof paper. I’m v. fond of tea towels and have a wide selection!

garlictwist · 08/08/2024 20:43

We have tea towels, cling film and foil in the same drawer.

Aintgointogoa · 08/08/2024 20:45

Yes !

LlynTegid · 08/08/2024 20:51

I have them in a pile in a cupboard in the kitchen. Nothing wrong with a drawer if that is your preference.

Igmum · 08/08/2024 21:20

Yes, of course. A dedicated drawer.

Do you remember in the olden days when a bar man would have a tea towel slung over his shoulder and he pick up a glass, splosh it about in a bubbling cauldren behind the bar, wipe it with the tea towel, (that went back over his shoulder) and then pour your drink into the glass?

I wonder if he had a tea towel drawer at home?

The olden days when you could drink a snowball at the pub? Advocaat and lemonade?

Actually it was a small, efficient lady, clad in black, with her boobs well covered, but she used to do that bubbling cauldron thing. People played dominoes in the corner back then.

Not a drawer but a corner of a wall unit where they are neatly stacked ready for use!

I have lots of 'souvenir' tea towels collected from around the world and use them all - love 'em Smile

I bought one in Sicily, some years ago. The man wanted to sell me it and it cost one euro. Should I have given him two? Anyway, as is often the case, it was not cut on the straight of the fabric and I couldn't be doing with the wringing so I unpicked the edges and straightened them up. I think of him when I use it.

I can chat on about my straight, ironed tea-towels but I'm hoping OP doesn't start a thread on dishcloths.

DoublePeonies · 08/08/2024 21:44

Well, they have to share the drawer with the biscuit cutters and piping bags, but yes, there is a drawer in the kitchen with all those things together.
