Does anyone else have a tea towel drawer?

Friend was over for dinner last night and asked for a fresh tea towel.
I said "sure, over there in the tea towel drawer".
She couldn't stop laughing and said she'd never heard of such a thing 😳

Anyone else have a whole drawer dedicated to just tea towels?

(Confession time - I LOVE tea towels 😁)

I have a tea towel drawer and a separate napkin drawer. In my last home I only had a napkin drawer and tea towels had to make do with shelf space. A drawer full of tea towels makes me very happy.

I confess I often don't bother to iron clothes, however I always iron tea towels.

evtheria · 08/08/2024 11:57

Yes, it has tea-towels, some cloth napkins, and a half empty box of dusty dinner candles.

newnamethanks · 08/08/2024 11:57

I definitely do. In fact, I find myself with an excess of tea towels having bought what I thought were 4 from IKEA by post. So I now have 16 new tea towels as I mistakenly ordered 4 packs of 4. They may require a dedicated cupboard.

Tarkan · 08/08/2024 11:59

We don't have enough drawers for this so I have a basket in the under-sink cupboard for dish towels and another for cloths. I wouldn't laugh at the idea of a dish towel drawer though. I'd have one if we had more drawers.

macshoto · 08/08/2024 12:03

Yes. Don't think this is unusual.

CloudPop · 08/08/2024 12:10

What else would you do with them?

Flossflower · 08/08/2024 12:12

No and I hate tea towels. I can’t bear the idea of keeping one on hand from one day to the next. As I make sure everything I use goes in the dishwasher I have very little that needs drying up. If I do need to dry something I use a microfibre cloth and it would be put in the wash after use. I have quite a lot of microfibre cloths and these are used for many jobs. They are washed together in a very hot wash. I do have a large drawer for these.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 08/08/2024 12:15

Yes, with a divider. Tea towels one side microfibre cloths the other.

TeaAndStrumpets · 08/08/2024 12:22

Tea towel drawer here, also contains dish cloths. I also keep placemats in there.

kfellover · 08/08/2024 12:23

I have a tea towel drawer, where else do tea towels go?

Normallynumb · 08/08/2024 12:34

Yes, I do. I fold them to fit with a roll of bin bags the other side.

TheOutdoorLife · 08/08/2024 12:36

No - they live under the sink folded up next to my cleaning caddy and sponge supplies.

Borborygmus · 08/08/2024 12:37

It seems rather excessive. We only have two tea towels, one of which will be 'in use' at any given time. So such a drawer would only ever contain a maximum of one tea towel!

InterrudelyUpted · 08/08/2024 12:46

There’s a popular tea towel company called “Third Drawer Down”.

This is because it is a known fact that the top drawer is for cutlery, the second drawer is for utensils, and the third drawer is for the tea towels.

No further discussion.

(panics slightly) what if they're both dirty at the same time?

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 08/08/2024 12:49

Of course. You should rechristen her "Carrie" as in SATC Carrie who clearly never cooks in her own home 😂

I actually had to glance over and see what drawer my tea-towels were in!

For the record, second drawer. Top drawer - mini ironing board in drawer (Ikea ), and cutlery and utensils in another set of drawers.

MollyButton · 08/08/2024 12:53

Yes

Bjorkdidit · 08/08/2024 08:58

Ours have to share with the cling film and foil, takeaway menus and those bags you get asking for old clothes.

I wouldn't call it a 'tea towel drawer' I'd probably say 'second drawer down under the hob'.

But I wouldn't find 'a tea towel drawer' funny or unusual Confused

Same.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/08/2024 12:57

yes. We also.have a napkin drawer as we use cotton napkins

marshmallowfinder · 08/08/2024 13:01

Yes, they're ironed and live in there with the foil, cling film and food bags.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/08/2024 13:02

Yes

Longhotsummers · 08/08/2024 13:25

@upinaballoon every day! They’re homemade ones but save us using reams of paper towels or paper napkins. I must admit, when we have ribs or something really greasy, I give out paper towels, but that’s not very often!

Longhotsummers · 08/08/2024 13:27

In fact, here’s a picture of the current ones on the go. They’re easy to wash and I don’t iron them but just fold them.

familyissues12345 · 08/08/2024 13:27

I did in the last house, but our current one has a different drawer configuration and there isn't one ideal for the job.. so a basket under the sink it is Grin
