Does anyone else have a tea towel drawer?

Friend was over for dinner last night and asked for a fresh tea towel.
I said "sure, over there in the tea towel drawer".
She couldn't stop laughing and said she'd never heard of such a thing 😳

Anyone else have a whole drawer dedicated to just tea towels?

(Confession time - I LOVE tea towels 😁)

yes, our kitchen has a massive two drawer in built cabinet, then 2 with the things that you pull out, then the upper ones and I could store many towels in these many cupboards but I store them in the cabinet with the 2 drawers, namely the upper one. I store the cutlery in another part of the cabinets. The lower drawer I use ( we ) use for plastics bags. :) Hundreds of them

challys · 08/08/2024 13:36

Yes! We have a small cupboard (it is, in fact, a large wooden, Italian, doll wardrobe, just under a metre high). We also store napkins in there, in the drawer section.

VividQuoter · 08/08/2024 13:36

Basically we have so many cupboards all over the place, thanks to the purpose built property. I store whatever I want wherever I want. Never had in my life someone being so unpleasant telling me things about how I keep MY HOME.

only once, a totally jealous couple of my country, came, for a coffee and started commenting on the possible price of my furniture pieces, how they arranged my furniture in another way, opened all the cupboards and bedroom doors, the only place did not go, was the attic!

the second time was the vicar and his wife. Invited them for lunch and when I was in the kitchen serving the puddings, heard very nasty comments: wow, she must be on benefits. Wow, did you know these properties here on this road, one is private, the other council. Wow.....

since then I don't invite anyone in. I tried to be friends and friendly. It does not work that way in this country. Where I come from neighbours often do very impromptu dinners, drinks with each other, coffee meetings, for no reason. People give shit do you live in flat, house, maisonette or oversized accomodation. People just want to see people, not count someone's elses blessings

ChildlessCatLadiesRuleOK · 08/08/2024 13:40

Of course. Well, it has tea towels on one side and hand towels on the other.

RareFawn · 08/08/2024 13:44

That's very sad @VividQuoter 💐

Butwhybecause · 08/08/2024 13:45

Yes, of course!
Clean tea towels and a couple of clean aprons. All beautifully ironed (but not by me).

Who wants to keep trekking upstairs every time you need a new one?

BestZebbie · 08/08/2024 13:45

Of course! Don't most kitchens have three drawers of increasing size built in - the top one for cutlery, the bottom one for textiles (tea towels, aprons, tea cosy, cloths etc) and the middle one for all the potentially useful crap less than a palm width in size that would otherwise accumulate all over the rest of the house? (or maybe that one is for a whisk, rolling pin, silver foil etc :-) )

Not a drawer but a corner of a wall unit where they are neatly stacked ready for use!

I have lots of 'souvenir' tea towels collected from around the world and use them all - love 'em Smile

LondonQueen · 08/08/2024 13:51

Yes, in one of the smaller drawers. I assumed this was normal!

Bin85 · 08/08/2024 13:58

Not many drawers in kitchen so mine are in a cube box in Kallax in utility room.

ooooohnoooooo · 08/08/2024 14:00

Yes and they are all folded in colour order. Wonderful

henlake7 · 08/08/2024 14:00

I wish I had a tea towel drawer. When I put my kitchen in (in my 20s) I assumed I would always be somebody who didnt cook so the kitchen has hardly any storage.
Now in my 50s I love to cook so the kitchen doesnt fit me anymore.🙁

I have a shelf in a cupboard. Washing up tea towels one side, cleaning cloths in the middle and baking tea towels the other side.

invisiblecat · 08/08/2024 14:02

I would do, if I had enough drawers in the kitchen, but we have to make do with a pile in the downstairs airing cupboard instead.

AlexanderArnold · 08/08/2024 14:10

Basket in a kitchen cupboard here! Don't use kitchen roll/paper towels, so we have loads. Your friend was having an odd moment!

yikesanotherbooboo · 08/08/2024 14:11

I have a tea towel drawer with kitchen hand towels as well.

poetrylover · 08/08/2024 14:13

I have a tea towel drawer, also housing an apron and the clean dishcloths. It's the third drawer down. Isn't everyone's in the same place? (Unless you have the basket as that's also ok!)

BluebirdBoogie · 08/08/2024 14:22

I went to a friend's house for dinner and she needed to wash some things up that wouldn't go in the dishwasher. I offered to wipe and she handed me some kitchen roll! They don't have tea towels apparently. Mind blown.

FullDummy · 08/08/2024 14:44

I have two tea towel drawers - one for 'the best' and one for 'the rest'. The best ones are my favourites mostly collected as souvenirs. Some of them are basically textile works of art - original designs, lino cut prints, repro vintage posters. I love using them as part of my everyday chores.

The rest are a motley collection of ancient grey supermarket purchases which I keep for manky jobs. No pleasure in using those other than knowing the good ones aren't being sullied!

I may need to get out more.

midlifeattheoasis · 08/08/2024 14:50

Yes! I do also keep the bin collection timetable in it as well Grin

AmazingBouncingFerret · 08/08/2024 14:58

Of course! When I bought my house I inherited a kitchen that has a laughable amount of drawers. 29. Twenty fucking nine drawers.
It would be ridiculous NOT to have a tea towel drawer.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/08/2024 15:00

Do you remember in the olden days when a bar man would have a tea towel slung over his shoulder and he pick up a glass, splosh it about in a bubbling cauldren behind the bar, wipe it with the tea towel, (that went back over his shoulder) and then pour your drink into the glass?

I wonder if he had a tea towel drawer at home?

FadedRed · 08/08/2024 15:10

Yes, I have a tea towel drawer near the sink and dishwasher, it also has a few ‘daily use’ tablecloths, though the posh tablecloths live in the dining room dresser.

SallyWD · 08/08/2024 15:18

Yes

RareFawn · 08/08/2024 15:25

I work in people's homes, and most of the homes do have a drawer for tea towels. Some neater than others of course, but when looking for a clean tea towel a kitchen drawer is the first place I look. Second place is the airing cupboard, if they have one.

OldTinHat · 08/08/2024 15:40

I don't but DM has!
