@Iwant20cats read the context of my response. And please explain how I would be ok with any terrorist attack 🤦‍♀️

This is awful.

Why are TS's fans being targeted in particular?

Mainly just very young girls who like dancing and singing and dressing up. Why them and not grown adults who are voting for various Governments (not that we should be targeted either obviously).

Her success makes her a massive threat to men's egos, I think that explains a lot of it🤷🏻‍♀️
We know how brittle they are, the slightest touch and the whole thing shatters.

I understood what you meant. Don't worry.

I agree with you FWIW. Nobody wants any attacks on anyone but targeting little girls who aren't even aware of the world outside their little bubble of home, activities, school and holidays is far worse than targeting those making decisions and laws for how the world is run.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 07/08/2024 22:22

She should be ecstatic that this was discovered and that she's safe!

Someone can understand that the right decision has been made and be very glad that it was uncovered before anything happened, while also being upset that the whole situation arose in the first place.

Misscloudycat · 07/08/2024 22:22

I wonder if others will be cancelled too. My anxiety is now through the roof

I'd say there will be heightened security.

International security (or whatever they are called) will have intelligence on these f*ckers. I imagine if we knew everything that the police/intelligence know we'd never leave our houses.

circular1985 · 07/08/2024 22:27

@behindthemall
We were due to fly out on Friday for the show. 2 devastated teens here. It was absolutely the right decision. What if the two arrested were part of a bigger squad. So scary.
Are you still planning on travelling there?

I wonder can we claim flight and hotel costs through travel insurance?

Suzyboozy · 07/08/2024 22:28

I wonder would these have been planned as so much of the International intelligence would have been focused on France for the Olympics?
Thank God these were uncovered, good job Austria

AuntieStella · 07/08/2024 22:28

We don’t yet know the motivation. It could simply be that they wanted to hit the worlds biggest tour this year, or because she’s American

BBC reporting that Austrian authorities had said one of those arrested had been radicalised online, and had taken an oath of loyalty to IS

Abouttimeforanamechange · 07/08/2024 22:28

I don't suppose it was her/her management's decision to cancel. If police/security services advised that there was a credible threat, she'd have had no choice. For one thing, the event wouldn't have been covered by insurance if it had gone ahead against police advice.

Doro371 · 07/08/2024 22:29

I read that two suspects were still on the run and that's why they cancelled...

Cantgetausername87 · 07/08/2024 22:30

Igotjelly · 07/08/2024 22:04

We were at Edinburgh for her show and I have to say the level of bag checking was abysmal, not sure if it was just our venue. You could have smuggled god only knows what in!

Edited

I found that when I was at the London arena last month (foo fighters) I just decided that I didn't fit the profile they were looking for - I think they just thought at worse I'd have smuggled in a gin tin! My husband got very thoroughly checked though and I was watching- loads of staff and cameras and security, I guess they focus more on what they're actually looking for.
Those poor fans, must have been a credible threat, I guess the way to see it is how many lives may have just been saved by her cancelling I guess...

circular1985 · 07/08/2024 22:31

My dc is devastated. Months of planning, nights of sitting up making bracelets and planning outfits. She's crying 'why is the world like this'.

She's now searching for London tickets but I'm not risking it in case Taylor just bins off the rest of her European tour. And I wouldn't blame her.

Probably. But I can't imagine they'd have argued with them.

She's only ever cancelled two shows before this in her entire career (one of those was for weather and was rescheduled a few days later, and the other was for political unrest somewhere I can't remember). But I doubt any performer would go ahead against police advice in a situation like this.

I hate things like this. I rarely buy tickets to shows, concerts, theatres etc due to a fear of terrorism :( I'm taking my kids to one of her concerts in Wembley and now we're all scared :(

Me too

Drogdab · 07/08/2024 22:34

It’s not much consolation but things tend to be safer after these events as the public attending will have a heightened awareness and more police presence etc.

I never thought of that but you are probably on the right track. There is so much focus on Paris at the moment.

The world has become such an awful place. I hate this is the world my kids are growing up in.

kayakerak · 07/08/2024 22:35

Just awful. So scary plus I am just devastated for all the children (and adults!) who were so excited. They must be so heartbroken. My niece is due to go to the London show and I don’t know how I feel, I was already feeling nervous due to the riots. It’s so scary to think of something going wrong but I also feel so sad at the thought of her not being able to go as I know how upset she’d be. Just have to see how things go I guess.

@kayakerak totally get where you are coming from. But after what's been happening here and now this, it will be extra, extra safe there! Security will be tight as hell

My DD is due to go to Wembley next week, I feel pretty nervous about it but she'll be gutted if it doesn't go ahead.

TwinklyNight · 07/08/2024 22:37

Very disapointing for so many, but better to be on the safe side.

Lovingsummers · 07/08/2024 22:38

It's the right thing to do, as disappointing as it is.

Changingplace · 07/08/2024 22:39

Greigeisthelatestbeige · 07/08/2024 22:12

Is it because the fans are young girls?
Or because the terrorists are anti Taylor Swift and what she represents (singing? dancing? fame? huge artist? They did the same to Ariana Grande.

I feel so sorry for the children, for many of them this would have been their first concert. They'd have been so excited and really upset it had to be cancelled.

I tried to get tickets for my young DD and couldn't get them. I can only imagine her disappointment if we were all ready to go and it was cancelled (although obviously this was the right decision).

I think it’s both the artist and the fan base, a young successful solo female artist with a predetermined young female audience. It’s absolutely the same reason the Ariana Grande concert was targeted.

I walked through the memorial garden for the victims in Manchester just a fortnight ago, it’s heartbreaking that it could’ve happened again.
