She has previously said she is terrified of a Manchester type attack. With what’s going on here at the moment I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the end of the Europe shows. There is heightened tension everywhere.

MyKidsDriveMeBonkers · 07/08/2024 23:25

I'm a 'brown' mum, taking my mixed race daughter to Wembley next week.

We've both been looking forward to it so much, for ages. And now I'm scared.

I fucking hate the way the world is right now...
Sad

Wildywondrous · 07/08/2024 23:26

So sorry to those who have tickets, it must be heartbreaking and so disappointing.

My dd is desperate to go and I'm on several waiting lists for tickets but am going to come off them, I'd be too worried to go to Wembley now, it only takes one lone wolf to think that he'll go ahead and get the job done seeing as the Vienna attack has been thwarted.
Especially as tensions are so high in the UK at the moment with the anti immigration protests.

We'll never know how many lives have potentially been saved by cancelling the shows.

I am sorry and for all the others in Vienna too. Are you back in your accommodation now? There must be a feeling of fear now in the city. Is there an underground there - is it still running or has it been closed off for security?

No impact in Vienna (except for sad fans), everything running as normal on a warm summer evening.

You poor thing, I know it's easier said than done but please go & enjoy your night with your precious girl.
I think with the Olympics finishing at the weekend all Euro intelligence eyes will be on Wembley & it will be absolutely secure. They have time to draft in extra security now in preparation. Hugs & love, the whole world seems so unstable at the moment 😥

Exactly this. Disappointing for the many fans, but the thought of what could have happened is chilling.

The same motivation as the Ariana Grande attack, against a successful solo female artist and a predominantly young female audience.

It wasn’t quite as straightforward as that. It was a warped idea of revenge for deaths of Muslim children in the US led actions in Syria. So I think being American performer was a key characteristic, as was likelihood of a young audience.

We’ll have to await further announcements from the Austrian authorities about motivation for this attack. IS reaching the stage of imminent attack on large audience of globally famous superstar, and doing so from online radicalisation, is awful. And we know from their history that they don’t limit their targets by sex or to concerts - in Europe they have form for attacks on police/military personnel, Jewish people and synagogues, churches, Shia mosques, museums, tourist resorts, US companies in third countries, metro stations, football supporters, a German music festival, a Christmas market, Westminster Bridge and Parliament, London Bridge shopping areas (Stockholm), railway station (Brussels), random street attacks (France, UK (Streatham))

On the news I saw, the immediately following item was that Shamima Begum has lost her final appeal for re-entry to the UK.

So yes, odd juxtapositions today

Anyone else sick and tired of hearing about Taylor Swift?

That’s your comment - with everything else going on in the world right now? Give your head a wobble.

FrancisSeaton · 07/08/2024 23:38

What the hell?
Violence and hatred towards females once more

AngeloMysterioso · 07/08/2024 23:39

Also @circular1985 @pinkspeakers @behindthemall @sadie93 @Bowlowner and anybody else with DC who were meant to be at Vienna shows- if you’d be happy to DM me your addresses I’d like to send them bracelets, as they’re going to miss out on the swapping fun.

Ponderingwindow · 07/08/2024 23:45

I’ve been nervous in crowds and queues since 2001. The same as my heart race when a plane flies too low. They are just such an easy target.

why target this show? Well I’m not a terrorist, but I believe women are being targeted worldwide, in a myriad of ways. There is a contingent that feels threatened by our increasing freedom and approach towards actual equality. Some will attack us via law changes, some via the economy. In some countries they manage to use religion as an excuse to drive women back into the dark ages. Then we have the murders and terrorists. They all have the same main gripe, we no longer are forced to serve them.

Suzyboozy · 07/08/2024 23:50

@Ponderingwindow 100% & a certain cohort see Taylor Swift empowering millions of little girls & they don't like it. Incel behaviour.

HettieBettyBoo · 08/08/2024 00:05

@billycat321 Pop your jealousy in your pocket.

We have tickets for Wembley but have now decided against going after hearing the Vienna concerts are cancelled. We wouldn’t feel safe. Luckily we’re all grown ups and have already seen her twice on this tour. There’s cells over different countries and if they didn’t succeed at one concert they may move to another imo. We’re not taking the risk.

I find that sad @HettieBettyBoo but I understand we all have to make our own decisions.

I'm going. My adult DD will be standing next to me. I hope her friend will be too.

We've agreed the terrorists win if we don't go.

whynotwhatknot · 08/08/2024 00:12

security nes to be steppe up after manchester i went to a show in london stadium didnt check bags was too lax

GellerYeller · 08/08/2024 00:12

I hope future shows will go ahead but with increased security. As someone said, insurance won’t allow them to hold the event if they go against police or government advice.
Most venues have walk through scanners now so you may only have your bag searched if there’s something unusual looking on the scan.
We were at Anfield and I don’t remember them having scanners but they did check bags and tag them to show they’d been searched. I think that’s why the merch bags are clear, to speed up the process maybe?
It did feel very safe, lots of young girls, not much drunken behaviour, everyone swapping bracelets and admiring each other’s outfits. I’m sorry for everyone affected.

Greigeisthelatestbeige · 07/08/2024 21:47

This is awful.

Why are TS's fans being targeted in particular?

Mainly just very young girls who like dancing and singing and dressing up. Why them and not grown adults who are voting for various Governments (not that we should be targeted either obviously).

They purposely target the most innocent because it causes the most outrage and anger. That’s why children are always targeted, it gets them the most attention.

She was amazing. I’m sure you’ll have a fabulous time, it’s a personal choice with us not to go and we’re very lucky to have seen her. I hope you all have a great night ☺️

DoIWantTo · 08/08/2024 00:24

Credit is due to whomever made the decision to cancel. It would have been an enormously tough one but no one wants a repeat of the Manchester arena. Shame for anyone that’s having to miss out and spent crazy money on it though, but their lives are worth more than money

It's violence and hatred towards Western society. Taylor Swift fans are easy targets because of the vast numbers who attend.

And it's extremist Islamists. Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Mormons, Wiccans, Scientologists are not blowing up stadiums.

Axelotylbottle · 08/08/2024 00:27

JamSandle · 07/08/2024 22:01

To be honest between all the protests, riots, terror attacks etc I'm sometimes surprised anyone goes anywhere. The world is a dangerous and unpredictable place.

Let's not forget the Southport attacks were on a 'Taylor Swift' themed dance workshop. I wonder if there's any connection. I hope the police are looking into it.

DoIWantTo · 08/08/2024 00:30

@MyKidsDriveMeBonkers I’m so sorry. Might be a pipe dream but I really hope we as a country can get our shit together enough that you never have to feel that way again. Goes for every mum of colour on here who’s lives have shrunk because of all this shit going on Flowers
