Agreed, and given the riots/protests they may well not publicly announce this information for fear of giving more fuel to the unrest.

I do not condone the actions of the rioters but I do think this could also be true.

If it's true I would prefer if we were treated like adults & told the truth. The Austrian police were very quick to tell it like it is.

Why them and not grown adults who are voting for various Governments (not that we should be targeted either obviously)

It should be governments or military targets but civilians are easier pickings plus it creates more fear.

You are giving terrorists a pass here - why? Do you honestly think it’s ok to bomb and terrorise government employees or military personnel ?

We live in a free and civilised society, there should be NO targets.

Some of the comments on here stray really close to Islamophobic

It's okay to talk about the problem of Islamic extremism. Muslim countries like the UAE and even now Saudi are very hot on stamping it out, and are a lot blunter than most Western countries about it as well, and quicker to ban extremist organisations.

Refusing to name the issue and accusing people of "isms" is stirring up a lot of anger and resentment all over the UK and Europe presently.

This. Most of us know that these fanatics who follow their own extremely warped twisted view of Islam have no hesitation hurting anyone, including those Muslims who don’t follow their version of the faith. They are extremists and that is what others condone. Whatever form they take.

Me too. But the Austrian police released a statement so the msm had to report it as it unfolded.

Austrian police are based.

Agree. Rumours circulate in a vacuum and by now we have seen where that can lead

@Kebarbra very interesting read, thanks for posting.

This is what globalising the intifada looks like.

Just want this said a little louder.

The cognitive dissonance on mn is wild.

meant to be going to see Taylor at Wembley next week and now very nervous about it. And also wondering if it will be cancelled..

Why would it be? Concerts weren't cancelled after the Manchester bomb. This is an Austran issue but I'm sure there will shared intelligence with the police forces.

Yep. A lot of people are very very naive to this.

And yes we know that in history other religions have behaved badly, but in our modern life the problem is Islam extremism- and there are always people who are quick to excuse it - search for information about terror attacks in the last 40 years, see what’s happening in other countries across the world and then ask yourself if their attacks are justified or understandable.

Not all Muslims are extremists - the majority of Muslims want to go about their lives peacefully and happily but we must be able to acknowledge and discuss that there are terrorist organisations who use ‘Islam’ as their reason for committing terrorism, violence and mass murder.

Why the need for the insult ?

If you don’t agree with what I am saying then explain your reasoning, jumping to snarky comments doesn’t expand your point .

Drogdab · 08/08/2024 09:23

Read the context of the post I was replying to. It’s pretty obvious that I’m not saying anyone should be a target. Do I really need to break it down for you in detail?

Drogdab · 08/08/2024 09:24

There’s also nothing snarky about asking someone if they are stupid

tootyfruitypickle · 08/08/2024 09:37

Back to Taylor. DD and I are having breakfast in our hotel (surrounded by other sad Swifties), and looking back over her previous comments about terrorism we are certain she is planning to reschedule. She hasn’t said anything yet and a simple ‘devastated’ statement would be quick. But rescheduling will be complicated. It would have to be after Dec 15, so we are hoping for a Christmas trip back to Vienna!

This is awful.

Why are TS's fans being targeted in particular?

Mainly just very young girls who like dancing and singing and dressing up. Why them and not grown adults who are voting for various Governments (not that we should be targeted either obviously).

Maximum publicity for the bad guys..(remember Manchester arena et al)

Drogdab · 08/08/2024 09:54

@tootyfruitypickle fingers x. I regret not trying for tickets, I only really became a fan in the last yr. I watched the concert film though & it was fantastic.

Ariana did obviously cancel the rest of her tour at the time, thankfully of course this attack wasn't successful but I don't know, I think mixed with the unrest here and the fact the London shows are the last ones before her 3 month break wouldn't be surprised if she does cancel them.

She’s going straight onto Canada and the US after Wembley .

And before that we lived with the terror threats related to Ireland. This isn't new.

Not the point of the thread, but "terror threats related to Ireland" is quite the description for a civil war in the UK.

Greigeisthelatestbeige · 08/08/2024 10:28

I think it is also because Taylor Swift stood up for herself, walked away from her music firm and started all over. She even had to record her own music again. Yet, she made it. She is still big, top of the charts and successfull.
She is an example of strong independant female to all those young girls

I have a young TS fan here and I can honestly say she has no idea of TS’s background and history. She just likes singing along to the songs as do all her friends. I very much doubt they even attempt to interpret the lyrics. For my DD TS is not an example of a strong independent female. That might be the case for grown women or older teens but not for TS’s main audience of under 12s.

I liked Kylie and Jason Donovan at that age and again I had no idea of what Kylie or Jason represented.

That is why I asked the original question of why TS fans but I think other posters answered that it’s just an easy target and not any different to underground stations and I think they are right.

No she isn't, she has a few months between the last show at Wembley and her next show, which is mid October.

I don’t think many even realise it was a civil war!
