Would you like to be tall?

I am a very short person (155cm). Watching the women's basketball and at least one of the players is nearly 2m tall - wow!
Got me wondering that I'd like to live the life of a tall person for a weekend (clothing issues aside, both ends of the scale can't quite get clothes to fit).
So, presuming I could have a comfy outfit, I'd love to see life as someone so tall for a little bit (and then probably relish going back to being Mrs Pepperpot again - I get vertigo!)
Any other shorties think this might be fun?
(Or curly girls wanting straight hair; slim wanting to try curvy etc; a brunette hankering after blonde? - I think we all want what we don't have)

I'm the same height as you. I think it would be fascinating to spend a week/weekend as a tall person! I wonder if life would be harder or easier. Or just different.

Nightblindness · 05/08/2024 20:21

No. I am tall and I hate it. It makes me feel unfeminine and ungainly. I can't wear heels as then I would be taller than my dh. I can hardly go into a supermarket without someone asking me to reach something from the top shelf, which I don't mind doing for them, but it just shows that everyone notices my height. Actually, thinking about it, I would hate to be the short person unable to reach things so it isn't all bad, but it certainly isn't all good either.

Cherrysoup · 05/08/2024 20:26

I’m 5’8, always thought I was 5’10. Apparently I have very long legs. It has been an absolute pita getting long enough trousers/skirts/dresses, currently jumpsuits (don’t show my legs due to an accident, there’s an obvious gap in one). I’m the tallest in my department at work. I often wonder if I’d prefer being shorter, but I think I quite like my height. I was goal attack at school.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/08/2024 20:27

I'm the same height as you, I almost never wish to be taller. Especially not on planes!

TheFlis · 05/08/2024 20:27

I’m 5”8, I wouldn’t want to be any taller.

AmusedMaker · 05/08/2024 20:30

My dd is 5’11 and absolutely hates it.

SaintHonoria · 05/08/2024 20:32

I'm 5'8. I find it the perfect height. I would t want to be taller although sometimes I'm in the company of young, beautiful and very tall Russian women and I look short!

UpThereForThinkingDownThereForDancing · 05/08/2024 20:33

I would like to try this on for size.

I'm 5'3" (or maybe 5'2" now, it's been a long while since I was measured!) and people tend to take little notice of me on first meeting until I exert my contribution enough to make them take notice... Whereas I perceive it that tall people get listened to automatically and barely have to protect themselves into a space at all to be heard.

So I would like not to have to compete for attention in the same way.

However, long flights and exploring caves is easier for me. So... 🙃

TrappedInALift · 05/08/2024 20:35

I am 5ft 10 and you wouldn’t be able to find a comfy outfit.

You’d spend most of your time trying on trousers to find the perfect length jeans to then have them discontinued and your quest would begin all over again.

Plus, dresses will be too short, jumpsuits will either create a camel toe or flash your nips, and your feet would be big too so add that to your Jeans quest too.

(I do quite like being tall, but clothes are an absolutely pain in the arse)

FunLurker · 05/08/2024 20:36

One DD 5ft 11ins and loves it, her partner is tall, other DD 6ft 3ins and struggles with clothes at time but loves her height. My DS 1 is 6ft but DS 2 6ft 2 maybe 6ft 3 but just 15 so still growing

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 05/08/2024 20:39

No, I like being short. I'm 156cm. I've always had good attention for it, and I love it when people meet me in real life and are genuinely surprised by how short I am. I give off tall person vibes on Teams, apparently 😁

FeelingUnsure99 · 05/08/2024 20:41

Only when it comes to trying to reach things on shelves in supermarkets or in the top cupboards at home. I am 5'2 and dh is 6'4 and he has a lot more height-related difficulties than me.

Whitesapphire · 05/08/2024 20:42

I’m 5’7 and I wouldn’t want to be taller than 5’8, but I’d absolutely hate to be short.

FeelingUnsure99 · 05/08/2024 20:42

I don't know what 5'2" is in centimetres.

Hangingupnow · 05/08/2024 20:44

I’m just under 5ft 9, would love to be 5ft 10 but hey ho. I love being tall and having long legs. I wasn’t a tall child until quite late though and some of my tall friends didn’t like being the tallest etc. only pain is lots of skirts, dresses on the high street when I was younger were far too short.

outside1inside · 05/08/2024 20:46

You can't put the clothing issue aside it is a massive part of being tall. I literally can't go into a shop and buy clothes. I have to order stuff online in various sizes because sizing is so inconsistent even within the same brand.

If you were tall for a weekend you would go out feeling awkward in ill fitting clothes or ordering online hoping something looks good on you.

Anyway after the clothing issue is sorted I think given the choice I'd stay tall rather than short but I'd ideally be maybe 3 or 4 inches shorter maybe 5 foot 7 or 8.

Hangingupnow · 05/08/2024 20:46

I am small framed with size 5.5 feet though so have never felt awkward/ungainly.

RedBulb · 05/08/2024 20:48

I’m a little bit shorter than you, had (mostly) good natured jibes about it my whole life, I am totally happy with my height and accepted it and binned off the heels by my mid-20s, it was quite freeing. My only annoyances with it stem around views at gigs and events so a cheeky little superpower to help with this would be most welcome occasionally😁

GreatTheCat · 05/08/2024 20:49

I'm 5'11 and have never thought about being shorter. I like my height.

Muffin101 · 05/08/2024 20:51

I’m 5’8 so not tall exactly but tall enough in my opinion, I wouldn’t want to be any taller anyway, clothes would become a bit of a nightmare as things are often a wee bit too short now. I don’t think I’d exactly dislike being short but I guess I’ll never know!
I do feel like a giant amongst my in laws. The women of the group are 4’11, 5’0, 2x 5’2 and 5’4 🤣

Elphame · 05/08/2024 20:51

5' 10" but my height is in my legs. I need a 35" inside leg.

I haven't been able to buy a pair of formal trousers for years and skirts etc are always too short. Even more annoying are long boots. I don't have fat legs but I can't do up most pairs as they are designed to curve in above the calf. On me that's almost 2" too soon so it's the widest part of my leg.

As for jump suits - not a hope!

Women don't have to be shorter than their husbands by law so you're ok

Luminousalumnus · 05/08/2024 21:00

5ft 7 here and by far tallest of my women friends and family members. I wouldn't want to be any taller.

WhatNext24 · 05/08/2024 21:01

I'm 5'11" and love being tall. I also have zero issues buying clothes. Trousers and shoes used to be hard when I was a teen, but not anymore. I'm in the UK and surprised by so many tall women here saying it's a struggle still.

FWIW I think I would also love being shorter. Height is one thing that we have zero ability to change so best to embrace what you're given in my view.

Pineappleprep · 05/08/2024 21:03

I'm 167cm / 5ft6 and I've always hated how tall I am, would love to be shorter
