Would you like to be tall?

I am a very short person (155cm). Watching the women's basketball and at least one of the players is nearly 2m tall - wow!
Got me wondering that I'd like to live the life of a tall person for a weekend (clothing issues aside, both ends of the scale can't quite get clothes to fit).
So, presuming I could have a comfy outfit, I'd love to see life as someone so tall for a little bit (and then probably relish going back to being Mrs Pepperpot again - I get vertigo!)
Any other shorties think this might be fun?
(Or curly girls wanting straight hair; slim wanting to try curvy etc; a brunette hankering after blonde? - I think we all want what we don't have)

I'm 5'7 and always hoped I'd get to 5'9 (clearly I didn't). My height is ok, but a bit taller would be lovely. I feel very average.
ETA - my height is all in my body, my legs are like a pit pony's. So two more inches of leg please.

leeverarch · 05/08/2024 21:03

I'm just under 5'8" and they do seem to make trousers longer these days, so I don't struggle with that, but sleeves are never long enough. Coats are the worst.

TonyeKnausgaard · 05/08/2024 21:06

No. I'm just under 5'4 and I'm perfectly happy with that. I'd hate to be any bigger.

One of my favourite things about dating is looking up at some big stonking guy. Being taller would spoil it.

MidnightPatrol · 05/08/2024 21:07

I am 179cm which is pretty tall for a woman, albeit I see a lot of women this height now!

My main complains are the length of tops. Trying to find something which isn’t above my hip bones / has sleeves that don’t finish mid arm is a constant battle.

I have greatly enjoyed the trend for midi/maxi as they look great on a tall woman. When I was younger shoes were an issue in fashion shops but not any more.

GigiAnnna · 05/08/2024 21:08

I'm about 5 '2 and happy with that. I've never really thought about being taller. I've got a mate who's just under 5 foot and next to her I feel tall though.

All too often I can’t quite straighten my arms at the moment, due to the fashion of quite tight sleeves with puffier arms.

I often end up undoing the sleeve buttons after a couple of washes.

I was by far the tallest in my class when I was at primary school and I really really hated it. I would have given anything to have been the same height as my friends. My growth slowed down in my early teens and I'm a pretty average height now, for which I'm very grateful.

I also had much larger feet than all my class, and I took a size 6 when I was 10. I was really bullied about the size of my feet, but again, I think they just grew early and they didn't grow any larger for many years until I was pregnant, when they grew to a size 7.

AconsonantpleaseCarol · 05/08/2024 21:13

I'm short and have never wished to be taller. I've always liked being shorter. If I could be taller I'd never want to be more than 5ft 5.
But now I'm menopausal and have gained two extra stones, I'm envious of taller women who can carry more weight especially around their middle.

DaniMontyRae · 05/08/2024 21:14

At 5ft2 I would love to be taller, mostly so I could eat more. A taller person can on average consume more calories and also carry extra weight better and without looking as frumpy.

There's also the buying clothes issue for short people. Finding jeans is difficult, tops often gape at the armpits, coat and jacket sleeves are always too long.

That's similar to me. My feet have been a size 5 since I was in year 5 at school and I was one of the tallest but I didn't grow any bigger than that, other than getting rounder and curvier during puberty.

I agree!

Tarantella6 · 05/08/2024 21:16

It would be nice to have a bit more wiggle room to gain weight, tall people can spread it out a bit more! But overall I think it would be a nuisance to be folding yourself into theatre seats / airplane seats etc, never knowing if your legs will fit properly somewhere.

PlatinumBrunette · 05/08/2024 21:16

I’ve been 6’ for almost 50 years. Apart from the teen nightmare of bullying, stares, not being able to be fashionable, yadayada, bonuses are never being stuck in someone’s armpit on the tube: being able to see at gigs: helping short people in supermarkets, and appearing intimidating to potential twats.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 05/08/2024 21:17

I am tall and have a love hate relationship with it. Hate shopping as so many things are short on me, specifically trousers and sleeves. Love that I. Am reach top shelves. Don’t like that I have to have a bigger car because my legs are long. I have size 8/9 feet so always a chore to get shoes I like.

Same, I just like tall men 😆

DramaAlpaca · 05/08/2024 21:18

I'm 5'10/178cm and very happy with my height. I don't have trouble buying clothes.

maltikat · 05/08/2024 21:18

I'm 5"11 and love being tall.
I love wearing heels on a night out and don't feel like I stand out.
My only downside is mini dresses. My arse hangs out unless they are from a tall range

Rainbowsponge · 05/08/2024 21:18

I’m tall (5’9) but nothing like 2m! I like it. Men seem to like it too.

Hangingupnow · 05/08/2024 21:19

I'm 167cm / 5ft6 and I've always hated how tall I am, would love to be shorter

Where do you live?

Thatsajokeright · 05/08/2024 21:19

I'm 6'1" and there are things that are annoying but I love being tall. Would hate to be short!

Thank you, from us short people. 😁

BigBoysDontCry · 05/08/2024 21:20

I'm 5'10 and I don't have issues with clothes as long as I can get long length jeans. It used to be a pain but I feel much more catered for nowadays.

I think the sweet spot height wise is between 5'7 and 5'10.

For men I think it's 5'10 to 6'2.

DSs are 6'3 and 6'4, clothes are mostly fine but general life is often awkward. Cars/planes/dining tables.

Sockmate123 · 05/08/2024 21:20

No, I'm 5' 5 and I like my height. Clothes sit better on taller people but I think petite in general is more feminine.

RampantIvy · 05/08/2024 21:20

I would be interested to know how old the posters are who post their height in cm.
As an old gimmer I still think in feet and inches for height.

Don’t women shrink as they age?
