Would you like to be tall?

I am a very short person (155cm). Watching the women's basketball and at least one of the players is nearly 2m tall - wow!
Got me wondering that I'd like to live the life of a tall person for a weekend (clothing issues aside, both ends of the scale can't quite get clothes to fit).
So, presuming I could have a comfy outfit, I'd love to see life as someone so tall for a little bit (and then probably relish going back to being Mrs Pepperpot again - I get vertigo!)
Any other shorties think this might be fun?
(Or curly girls wanting straight hair; slim wanting to try curvy etc; a brunette hankering after blonde? - I think we all want what we don't have)

I’m 5ft 3 and happy with my height. (Apart from the gig/theatre problem).

Almostwelsh · 05/08/2024 21:24

I'm 5' 6" so slightly taller than average, but not tall. I always wanted to be 5' 10". Once you get to 6ft or more I would think it starts to be a disadvantage for a woman, but I'd rather be 6ft than 5ft.

gegs73 · 05/08/2024 21:24

I’m 5’10 and love my height. Back in the 90/00s it was hard to get long enough trousers, but for years now it’s been no problem at all - generally they are too long (no idea how they fit anyone average size). If I were smaller I think I might feel more vulnerable in crowds and wouldn’t be able to see anything. I’m not sure I’d like to be taller, but that’s because I never have been, maybe it would be great 🤷‍♀️

Goldenthigh · 05/08/2024 21:24

I'm 5'10" and very happy with my height, clothes issues aside. Since reading Invisible Women about how the world is designed for the average sized man, I'm even more grateful because I probably am quite close to the height/size things are designed for. Car seatbelts largely fit properly, I can reach most shelves etc.
My DM is 5'3" and it just seems a lot of faff always having to ask someone to get things down for you.

Dontsparethehorses · 05/08/2024 21:24

I’m only 5’2” and would like to be a bit taller - I put on weight and it is very noticeable very quickly however if I had to choose between very tall and short I would stick. I’d rather be average though 😅

I was at a funeral for a dear friend who was in her 70s who was shorter than me in stature in height but not in personality -no one ever questioned! I aim to be like her…!

Whaleandsnail6 · 05/08/2024 21:24

I'm 5ft and I hate it. I hate the majority of trousers, jeans and maxi dresses being too long. I also hate that if I put a small bit of weight on its really noticeable, I feel like if I was taller it wouldnt be.

Id love to be tall

Boutonnière · 05/08/2024 21:25

I’m 5’4” and have never wanted to be taller. I was tall at a young age in primary school then in secondary some began to go past me, but I think I kept thinking of myself as tall. People are surprised when I say my height and say that they would have thought I was at least 2/3 inches taller - I have ‘presence’ apparently . So maybe it’s a combination of good deportment and personality ?

My husband is 6ft and mutters when he uses my car about my drivers seating setting and I have to remind him I’m 8” shorter !

Guavafish1 · 05/08/2024 21:25

I think I would prefer it… people don’t take you serious if yours short.

MapleTreeValley · 05/08/2024 21:26

My DD is 6 foot and likes being tall. She's good at finding clothes in her size and she's excellent at netball!

Dilbertian · 05/08/2024 21:28

I'm 5'8". Well, I was. I suspect that I have begun to shrink with age, or else I'm getting stiffer, as I sometimes can't reach things I used to be able to reach.

I've always enjoyed being tall, and would happily be taller. There is only one thing I would like to change about my height: my proportions. I have a long body and short legs, which can make clothes shopping awkward. I've completely given up on jumpsuits and one-piece swimsuits.

adviceatthislatestage · 05/08/2024 21:29

I'm 4'11

Buying clothes are a pain- petite is too long
Standing at a gig is ridiculous
People think they can push in front then say 'oops didn't see you there...'

Every now and again, when stood on a chair or step to reach the top cupboard, I look around; I think ok, so this is what it's like to be tall.

Would love to have had an extra 6-8 inches.

Positive: Can manage a long flight in economy without too much discomfort 👍

I too have a tall DD, well over 6 foot. She's down with it, now she's older. Tough as a teen. Got the clothes issue sorted these days. Could never shop high street with her friends. Her beautiful feet are size 11 and a half. That's the reality.

MattSmithsBowTie · 05/08/2024 21:36

I’m always the tallest woman in the room, I was always the tallest girl at school but I’m all in proportion, so if you see a photo of me on my own you wouldn’t realise I’m so tall, it’s only when I see a photo of myself next to other people I realise I look like a scaled up version of a human, I like it though, I don’t think I’d like being shorter.

JengaNonConfirming · 05/08/2024 21:37

I'm 6" and I love it! I've never wanted to change my height. I think it's easier then ever to get clothes from taller ranges.

Hangingupnow · 05/08/2024 21:37

I have a long body and short legs, which can make clothes shopping awkward. I've completely given up on jumpsuits and one-piece swimsuits.

If it’s any consolation I’m the other way round & really struggle with skirts, length of tops.

Sockmate123 · 05/08/2024 21:20

No, I'm 5' 5 and I like my height. Clothes sit better on taller people but I think petite in general is more feminine.

5ft 3 and under is petite isn't it. 5ft 5 is not petite.

Haveanaiceday · 05/08/2024 21:39

I do quite enjoy being a short woman and it fits in with my hobbity lifestyle but I would really like a freaky Friday type deal with Tom Stoltman, the current world's strongest man who is 6'9. Just to see what its like to be one of the biggest and strongest people in the world.

Taytocrisps · 05/08/2024 21:41

I was very tall as a child. I was taller than a lot of the boys when I started secondary school. I was nicknamed Lanky and I really hated being tall. I felt like I really stood out just when I wanted to fit in. I felt like a bit of a freak and not very feminine. I stopped growing in my teens and of course, the boys eventually outgrew me. I'm not particularly tall as a woman. But I hated it at the time.

Tel12 · 05/08/2024 21:44

I'm 5 foot. A couple of my GC are over 6. I'd really like to be a bit taller.

Sophie3003 · 05/08/2024 21:46

I am 4ft 11 and love it. Wouldn't want to be any taller. I am petite so in proportion but love being a little woman ☺️.

Tophelleborine · 05/08/2024 21:52

Hangingupnow · 05/08/2024 21:19

I'm 167cm / 5ft6 and I've always hated how tall I am, would love to be shorter

Where do you live?

I'm puzzled by this, 5'6" isn't tall!

LER83 · 05/08/2024 21:53

I'm 5ft and would love to be maybe 3 or 4 inches taller, just so it wasn't a pain to get trousers/skirts/dresses - I have very short legs! And would love to be able to sit anywhere in the theatre without worrying about heads in the way! Plus points for me though are I have diddy feet so can buy childrens trainers and shoes! Dd is 12 and currently the same height as me so hopefully she will be taller! My dh is 5ft11.

ohthejoys21 · 05/08/2024 21:58

My dd hates being tall. She's always crouching down to her friends's heights in photos.

SerafinasGoose · 05/08/2024 21:58

Bit over 5' 10". I am what I am and have no desire to change (and have quite a liking for long, flowing clothes).

I don't wear heels but if I felt inclined to do so, being taller than my husband wouldn't put me off!

Berlinlover · 05/08/2024 22:00

I’m 5ft 4 and would hate to be any taller.
