Would you like to be tall?

Pebbles16 · 05/08/2024 20:16

I am a very short person (155cm). Watching the women's basketball and at least one of the players is nearly 2m tall - wow!
Got me wondering that I'd like to live the life of a tall person for a weekend (clothing issues aside, both ends of the scale can't quite get clothes to fit).
So, presuming I could have a comfy outfit, I'd love to see life as someone so tall for a little bit (and then probably relish going back to being Mrs Pepperpot again - I get vertigo!)
Any other shorties think this might be fun?
(Or curly girls wanting straight hair; slim wanting to try curvy etc; a brunette hankering after blonde? - I think we all want what we don't have)

5 9 and love being tall, often wear heels which can take me close to 6 foot.
I enjoy feeling confident in my shape but if I didn't like it, it would be a pain.

Mmhmmn · 06/08/2024 00:22

I’d like to be a bit taller, say 5’6 would be good. I think people treat you with more respect when you’re taller. But wouldn’t particularly want to be stand-out-in-a-crowd tall.

I'm 30 and the tallest out of all my siblings

Go into most secondary schools (admittedly in the wealthier areas) and you will feel short!

TonyeKnausgaard · 06/08/2024 00:30

It is inconvenient being shorter at gigs, but I do find it's very easy to get to the front. I'm not big so no one minds me nipping in front of them. I do that several times and I can find a very good view. There was one gig at Alexandra Palace that I zigzagged right to the front of the barrier for.

If you're short and you don't mind going off on your own, I highly recommend it.

123dogdog · 06/08/2024 00:42

Im 172cm so just under 5’8.

i was always the tallest until 14, when the boys decided they were going to grow. I hated it at the time. But I think I’d like to be taller now 😂 not by much maybe 1-2 inches, 5’9/5’10 would be nice 😂 I feel a bit short tbh.

the only thing I don’t like is my shoe size, I was a 7 at 10 years old. And I wear an 8, and so many women’s shoes only go up to a 7, there’s a better range of sizes now, but even 5-10 years ago terrible choice. And so many women’s shoes are so narrow. I tend to just buy men’s shoes, plus they come in more practical colours, I was trying to get a new pair of walking shoes. Vast majority of the women’s were pale colours, there were even a pair of white ones. Who is wearing white walking shoes!? I came away with the exact same men’s ones as I’ve had for 15 years.

loropianalover · 06/08/2024 00:45

I’m 5ft9, it really got me down in school as I was always tallest and biggest. Even now I really don’t feel feminine unless I’m thin. I notice that I can feel fine about myself getting ready for an event/dinner etc. but once I arrive and have to hug or stand next to my shorter friends I feel like Michelin man.

I’m too tall to blend in but not tall enough to have model features.

QueenBitch666 · 06/08/2024 01:22

5'2 here. I love it 😍

Aquamarine1029 · 06/08/2024 01:32

I'm 6', absolutely love being tall, my daughter is just over 6' and loves it just as much. Being tall is amazing.

Ozgirl75 · 06/08/2024 02:24

I’m 5 ft 4 so average for women and I’m very happy at this height. I can’t see any advantage of being taller to be honest!

Sticklebrrick · 06/08/2024 02:53

Im 188cm, just about 6ft 2. A 40 something female. Size 42 feet.

Ive never loved it, used to despair of it at times. As a teen I wanted to be as slim as possible to "take up less space". I never feel particularly feminine even now but give it little thought. Although I kmow some people still stare!

Yes clothing is better now than it has ever been.

Never been into netball or basketball 🤣

There's no advantage of being any height.

Ozgirl75 · 06/08/2024 03:03

So personally I find being 5ft4 there are advantages. Most clothes fit me fine. Things are not too short or too long. I’m an average shoe size. I’m a normal size for a bed. I fit easily on a plane. I can reach all but the highest shelves. Mirrors and counters are fine for me. I don’t find myself having to stoop or go on tip toes. The world fits me fine.

ALunchbox · 06/08/2024 03:56

I'm short and I like it. You can buy clothes and shoes in the kids section - they're much cheaper!

Sweetteaplease · 06/08/2024 05:15

I'm 5 nothing, and love it. I like being small except when I need to reach something but usually someone is around to get it for me

PurelyOrnamental · 06/08/2024 06:26

I am 5'10 with size 8 feet and huge hands (for a woman!). I am also plus sized.
I wish I was about 3 inches shorter (and 3 dress sizes smaller!)
I never feel feminine, most men are either the same height as me or smaller.
We are a big family though, my husband is 6'1 and my son is 6'4. Luckily for my daughter she seems to have stopped growing at 5'5, I would have hated for her to be taller than me. She will find things easier at a much more regular height for a woman.

Soñando25 · 06/08/2024 06:48

I'm 155cm and have always liked being this height. Have visited Mexico a few times where the population in general is shorter than in the UK and I felt more obvious because I was relatively taller.
Happy to stay as I am!

RampantIvy · 06/08/2024 06:59

I'm 5'7" and am perfectly happy with my height. I don't want to be taller.

Voz · 06/08/2024 07:02

I would, but not to play basketball, to look good in clothes. My version of tall wouldn't be basketball player tall though. 170cm would be tall for me. Can I stay the same weight!

Voz · 06/08/2024 07:04

RampantIvy · 06/08/2024 06:59

You hit the jackpotpot. 5'7 is a lovely height. After about 5'9"" , id rather stay short. Not that there is any point following these thoughts, I am the height I am, the end.

Ivyy · 06/08/2024 08:23

I'm 5ft 11 and as an adult wouldn't change that, but hated being the tallest in my year at school throughout childhood. I hated standing out, the constant comments, my dm put a lot of focus on looks, I picked up on this idea from her that girls and women should be petite and delicate to be feminine.
I've done everything I can to make sure my own dd embraces being tall and feels comfortable in her skin. It makes me sad I wasted all those years feeling uncomfortable and wishing I was a couple of inches shorter.
Ff to my teens, losing puppy fat and I started getting compliments about my height and figure, long legs etc. I got positive attention and was baffled, especially when it came from boys who'd called me names and taken the p out of we during primary school.
It meant I could model in my 20's which was a fun time. I've never been asked to reach things for people on supermarket shelves but I'd be quite happy to help!

True buying long enough trousers could be an issue 20 odd years ago, but clothing companies then started offering longer lengths and I'm 34" leg so haven't had a problem for years.

Dd is likely to be my height, she's already 5.9 at 13, dh is 6ft 2 so she has our tall genes and it's part of our identity to and I've never felt unfeminine,

Hangingupnow · 06/08/2024 08:33

If any tall people want to feel average go to the Netherlands, Estonia, Denmark etc

CharismaticMegafauna · 06/08/2024 08:40

I'm the same height and used to always want to be taller though now I'm used to it. As a child I was very small for my age and used to get mistaken for being a few years younger than I was. It's quite embarrassing when you're 13 and people think you are 10.

It has its advantages now as I can share my daughter's pony which would otherwise be too small for me! But it would be interesting to be tall for a day, not being towered over and being able to reach things. Also I might be thinner if stretched out a bit Smile

prues · 06/08/2024 12:14

I wanted to be tall when I was a teenager. I did beauty modelling (hair and makeup) at the time as I was only 5ft 5 (and a half) and not tall enough for anything else (I think minimum was 5ft 7).

I don't think I'd like to be taller now. Weirdly I'm often one of the taller people when in groups of women, but I don't feel tall.

Two friends around 5ft 10 don't like their height and walk stooped. Another friend is around 6ft but is quite confident and extremely glamorous, and likes her height.

Gowlett · 06/08/2024 12:17

I’m happy at 5 foot 4. Though I do look at those tall, willowy girls & wish I was one! The tanned, blonde ones, who can wear anything. But, I’ve never really wanted to change myself.

For the tall ladies on here saying they can’t find trousers. I am 5ft 11 with a 36” inside leg. Long tall sally go up to 38”.

To answer your question, I love being this height. I wear heels too! Wouldn’t swap to be any shorter!

I found they were the wrong shape for me.

If I could get them over my hips then I had a couple of spare inches of fabric around my middle. The smaller size I couldn't do up! I tried a number of styles over the years and had the same problem each time. At least they then had shops so I could try them there rather than ordering and sending back.

I did find a pair of M&S black trousers recently that were long enough but the fabric was horrid. I wore them once for a funeral but then they went to a charity shop.

If they can do men's trousers in a range of combinations of leg and waist sizes why on earth can they not do so for women? I understand it isn't practical for cheap fast fashion but I don't see why a range of basics couldn't be sized like this. At the moment, those of us at either end of the height range are very poorly served.
