Would you like to be tall?

I am a very short person (155cm). Watching the women's basketball and at least one of the players is nearly 2m tall - wow!
Got me wondering that I'd like to live the life of a tall person for a weekend (clothing issues aside, both ends of the scale can't quite get clothes to fit).
So, presuming I could have a comfy outfit, I'd love to see life as someone so tall for a little bit (and then probably relish going back to being Mrs Pepperpot again - I get vertigo!)
Any other shorties think this might be fun?
(Or curly girls wanting straight hair; slim wanting to try curvy etc; a brunette hankering after blonde? - I think we all want what we don't have)

I’m 155-6cm and I really wouldn’t want to be any taller. Kind of glad to see most people, regardless of height, saying they wouldn’t want to change – better than everyone hating their height!

I like being smaller than men I date, and men a lot taller than me are common enough. I’ve also never struggled to find clothes, unlike a lot of short women. Some trousers are too long, but plenty aren’t and skirts are hardly ever too long. Not sure why I’m fine in this respect but some women taller than me aren’t, I don’t have long legs and I’m average weight so can’t imagine that has anything to do with it.

scotlandscold · 05/08/2024 22:06

I'm shorter than you OP. My DH is 6ft 3 sometimes I get him to lift me up so our eyes are level and have a look at things from his perspective. It's actually quite scary 😂 he crouches down to my level and makes jokes about how I don't bash my head on tables 😅 I am not actually that short but he thinks it is funny

cushionfiend · 05/08/2024 22:07

I've always fancied being a bit taller, like 5'9" or thereabouts. I'm 5'6" so slightly taller than average but not much. But I went to South Korea for work once, and riding the tube standing up was fascinating because it was the only time in my life I felt properly tall, it was quite surreal - like in Alice in Wonderland, as though I had drunk a potion and magically sprung up! My entire perception of my size was transformed.

Am805463 · 05/08/2024 22:08

I’m 5ft 11 and love my height, don’t really have any issue with clothes anymore but seemed difficult when I was younger.

Rainbowsponge · 05/08/2024 22:08

I love being tall (176cm). Men seem really drawn to me - I think I sort of fascinate and intimidate them a little. I’m a slim hourglass with long blonde hair so have the Scandinavian warrior princess look 😂 I love wearing heels and showing off my legs.

I don't seriously want to be taller (5'2") but it would be nice to...
*Not have to go climbing to do the food shopping.
*Not be arm pit height in a crowd.
*Be able to see and hear things in a crowd.
*Not feel claustrophobic in crowds.
*To be able to wear nice "ankle" socks without folding them in half so they're ugly side out because they're not cut to be at the widest point of my muscular calves.
*To be an adult shoe size- no really, I don't have the sartotial elegance of the average 9yo
*To have people move out of my way for a change, it's knackering having to give way constantly- running behind 6ft DH when he paced me for 10k was mind-blowing... people actually SAW him and moved aside.
*To not have colleagues walk into the room asking where the teacher is because I blend in with y7s.
*To not have people talk over my head and ignore me.
*To be able to drive pretty much any car in a safe and ergonomic position.
*To be able to use those ridiculous accelerators pivoted from the ground without jamming my leg and operating with the subtlest pressure of my toes, or killing my quads by suspending my leg halfway up the pedal to be able to use my ankle.
*To have fitted behind the steering wheel when heavily pregnant
*To be able to wear voluninous blousy dresses without looking like a stubby child playing dress-up.
*To not have to climb on sofas and end up with my feet wraggling off the ends if I don't want to slump really badly.

Plane and old theatre seats are rare examples of beautifully considered ergonomic design!

I'm 5'11 and used to hate it, at peace with it now as realise it's not a huge deal and can't do anything to change it. If I had a choice I'd prefer to be shorter though, I spent my teens making sure I was slim so I wouldn't feel massive next to my friends and had a lot of comments mostly from short men.

Tulipvase · 05/08/2024 22:11

I’m about 157cm, can’t imagine being anything different and don’t particularly want to be.

TattiePants · 05/08/2024 22:13

I’m 5ft 11 and love my height and always have. I’ve never had problems getting clothes. In fact in the last year I’ve had to send trousers back to H&M, Next and M&S for being too long. Occasionally I find a dress with a fixed waistband that sits too high but that’s rare.

spikeandbuffy · 05/08/2024 22:16

Nightblindness · 05/08/2024 20:21

No. I am tall and I hate it. It makes me feel unfeminine and ungainly. I can't wear heels as then I would be taller than my dh. I can hardly go into a supermarket without someone asking me to reach something from the top shelf, which I don't mind doing for them, but it just shows that everyone notices my height. Actually, thinking about it, I would hate to be the short person unable to reach things so it isn't all bad, but it certainly isn't all good either.

That ^^ I always feel really unfeminine and awkward/gangly
I'm built to be lugging stuff about as I'm broad as well as tall

Mistressofnone · 05/08/2024 22:16

I am 5'9" and certain women are getting taller than men. I don't feel ridiculously tall though. Grateful that I can probably consumer a few more daily calories than the RDA for women.
Saying that, I am pear shaped like a lot of women blessed with extra height.

Hangingupnow · 05/08/2024 22:16

@cushionfiend my sister who is taller than me had quite a few people wanting to take pictures with the “giant” when travelling 😆

S00LA · 05/08/2024 22:17

I’m 5’4” so boringly average . Id like to be slightly taller, about 5’8” or 9.

Avocadocream · 05/08/2024 22:27

I’m 6”1 and whilst I have got more confident with my height as I’ve got older, I would still love to be slightly shorter. It has been difficult through the years from the lanky comments at school to downright hurtful/rude comments (usually said by very short men) in pubs. Clothing options are much more plentiful then they were in the 90s, but I would still love to be that little bit shorter and not be the tall friend, feeling like a giant at times (dance floors/photos etc). I was happy my daughter was an average height, whilst my son is tall it’s much easier for males and seen much more as an attractive quality. Some of the comments I have had over the years have been truly awful, “freak” or “I bet you can only attract really ugly, desperate men” said by one charming male, loudly, to a very busy pub, to be net with a mixture of pity and sniggers.

kitsuneghost · 05/08/2024 22:27

I am slightly smaller and no, I wouldn't want to be any taller.
Would love to be the ideal 150cm and 50kg (can but dream)

Hangingupnow · 05/08/2024 22:32

Would love to be the ideal 150cm and 50kg (can but dream)

When was this the ideal?

Hesperatum · 05/08/2024 22:32

I would love to be 5 foot 8 but am 5 foot 4, shrunk during menopause😶

RayWinstone · 05/08/2024 22:35

I'm 5.2 and used to absolutely HATE being short when I was a teenager (I think this was because I wanted to look older, and the shortness didn't help). Now I honestly couldn't care less.

The only thing I am envious of in the tall is the amount of calories they can eat... Being short and slight, every single pound gained is noticeable. And I genuinely have to restrict my intake quite brutally (less than 1000/day, with a couple of fast days thrown in) to lose weight.

Haribosweets · 05/08/2024 22:38

4 foot 10 here and find it so hard to buy any clothes for bottom half. My legs are the shortest than top half and inside leg I need about a 25/ 26 inch!

dutysuite · 05/08/2024 22:41

My sister is tall and she used to hate it as a child. She never wears heels but she has a fantastic figure and clothes looks amazing on her…however people who meet her will say “oh aren’t you tall” as if she has gone through life without noticing! I’m 5ft 6 and a half and would like to be 5ft 8.

WearyAuldWumman · 05/08/2024 22:43

Cherrysoup · 05/08/2024 20:26

I’m 5’8, always thought I was 5’10. Apparently I have very long legs. It has been an absolute pita getting long enough trousers/skirts/dresses, currently jumpsuits (don’t show my legs due to an accident, there’s an obvious gap in one). I’m the tallest in my department at work. I often wonder if I’d prefer being shorter, but I think I quite like my height. I was goal attack at school.

I'm 5ft 8 and 3/4, apparently. (At least I was - maybe I've shrunk a smidgen. I'm in my 60s.)

I live in a part of Scotland where people tend to be shorter. Had to got to hospital last month. When I was measured, the nurse said "Aren't you tall?!"

I spent part of my time at secondary school being nicknamed "Giraffe" by the mean girls. The complained that I was cheating when I was the goalkeeper in netball.

I used to get boys claiming that I was 6ft, because they were 5ft 9. They were not 5ft 9...

My mum used to get other mothers saying "Has she not stopped growing yet?" while I was standing right there.

Buddysbunda · 05/08/2024 22:46

I'm 5ft 6 so feel neither tall or short. I'd love a few more inches to feel tall and elegant(in reality I'm really clumsy so I don't know why I think a few more inches would change that).

Ineedaholidayyyy · 05/08/2024 22:46

No, I'm a very average 5ft5. I like my height and clothes fit well so I have never wanted to be shorter or taller.

I would change my foot size though, I've inherited the big foot gene in my family and would prefer to be a petite size 4.
