I’m personally not okay with rioting but understand why it’s happening.
What is the best way to fix this issue and do you think it is mass immigration that has caused it?

In times where the economy is poor, the governments, media etc look for a scapegoat.
Do you think the Jews were indeed bleeding the German economy before WWII, and not let's say losing the war and having to sign a really bad treaty, and has sending them to gas chambers fixed it?

cupcaske123 · 05/08/2024 19:45

Investment.

Investment in infrastructure, public services, training, in post industrial towns, education, housing and so on.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 05/08/2024 19:46

Posting from a working class area that lost a lot of investment from the EU - a Time Machine might help? 😕

StripedPiggy · 05/08/2024 19:48

Uncontrolled mass immigration plus the lies & gaslighting of mainstream politicians who promised to reduce it then did the opposite is definitely the underlying cause of the anger & resentment which has caused these riots.

The tragic murders in Southport allegedly committed by the son of immigrants was the spark that ignited them.

Disinformation on social media & lying racist political agitators, eg Yaxley Lennon, poured petrol on the fire.

Yes.

Education, housing, mental health services all need fixing.

HappierTimesAhead · 05/08/2024 19:50

Deprivation breeds resentment. IMO, the rioters should be targeting the uber-rich tax avoiders, years of tory party corruption and the lack of investment in their local areas. But apparently it's poor migrants are the root of all evil 🙄

hopeishere · 05/08/2024 19:51

No. Mass immigration has not caused it. As a % of the population how many are refugees or illegal immigrants? I think it is less than 1%.

I think a lack of investment in overall infrastructure has caused a squeeze and a perception of unfairness.

twopercent · 05/08/2024 19:53

It isn't "working class". It is right wing.

Twistybranch · 05/08/2024 19:59

The best way to resolve any issue is for moderate voices to be able to talk about the subject without others shutting them down.

All that happens there is the extremist voices are the only ones left. The ones who are full of hate.

There are currently demonstrations in Brooklyn, NY. These are women of all ethnicities and cultures, peacefully protesting that the number of asylum seekers housed in the area has put pressure on the community. How crime has been affected and the cleanliness of the streets.

Theres no likelihood of riots there, because they can make their feelings known in a lawful manner without being derided as fascists or met with counter protests

Anarchists are causing it. I strongly suspect that the extreme far right had already decided to do all this, deliberately to cause problems for the new Labour government, and all they needed was a catalyst to stir up strong feelings among the faithful. They got one. If it hadn't been that, they would have waited for something else.

"Home Office figures cited by the Financial Times in August last year showed that the annual asylum cost reached £3.96 billionin the year up to 2023—double that of the previous year and six times higher than 2018."

Nearly 4 billion a year and that will rise, that's 5% of what the whole NHS spends and also 5% of what all of the schools in the UK cost the government.

Not sure that anarchist means what you think it means.

frenchnoodle · 05/08/2024 20:02

It's not going to get any better.

AgnesX · 05/08/2024 20:05

What do you think OP? Care to share your opinion?

LondonLass61 · 05/08/2024 20:07

People should start to question where they are getting their news/information from and who is supplying it. Our newspapers are mainly owned by a few billionaires and social media seems to be utterly unregulated. Goebbels, (Hitler's minister for propaganda) would be proud and today would probably have thousands of followers and a go find me page.
Time to reinforce critical thinking again.

FitAt50 · 05/08/2024 20:07

It's just scummy classless idiots who have been raised by terrible parents. They think society owes them and blame everyone else for their problems. Just glad it doesn't appear to be an issue in Scotland for now.

And legal migration was 650,000 odd net last year: that needs dynamic steps to integrate into the country. That's been missing, and cut services and housing have been out under more pressure. Then add people perceiving different approaches of policing different social groups as inherently unfair. We're in a mess, and I'm not sure are civic discord can be grown up and honest enough to deal with fixing it,and that's terrifying.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/08/2024 20:09

They're the thick as shit racists we endured at shit schools, their kids/stepkids & their grandkids loving the opportunity to piss around, trash things and scare people who aren't as thick as them.

HTH.

ElderMillenials · 05/08/2024 20:12

When does the article come out OP?

What would fix it? Actual journalism that gives real information and not lies that fuel the hysterics rather than biased, racist, utter shit.

Anger is being projected at the wrong people, it's not people fleeing horrific wars and persecution that are the problem, it's the rich that are in power and the pathetic media.

Lexigone · 05/08/2024 20:16

I agree it's the super rich that should be taxed. Labour's isn't doing that enough yet but it will come.

Do you mean beating them up and robbing them? Which particular über rich tax avoiders?

Yolo12345 · 05/08/2024 20:22

Everyone can see the spectacular waste of HS2 and Rwanda etc....everyone is sick and tired of it all

TinklySnail · 05/08/2024 20:25

I would like Kier Starmer to address the immigration issue and listen.
I don’t think rioting is going to help but previous and current governments don’t seem to acknowledge the need to get a grip on immigration and help British people.
There are obviously some racist idiots rioting because mosques have been targeted but his speeches have done nothing but make things worse
