Just made a fool of myself at interview...I'm so upset

Had a interview today
Well if you can call it that
It was at Hilton hotel
For a room attendant /housekeeper

I got there and the receptionist told me I was too early (15 mins early ) so I just sat in reception whilst they gave me daggers
Then one came over and said "housekeeping interview isn't it ? " I said yes and she rolled her eyes (no idea why )

Then head of housekeeping comes over
She was nice enough but asked me nothing
I mean nothing
No previous job history
She said okay go to a room and make a bed.

Bare in mind I have no experience (ad said training will be given )
Got to the room
It was red hot
Head of housekeeping
Supervisor and 2 room attendants all there.

I had to try and guess how they like the bed being made
I had no experience of making a hotel bed

Whilst I was was busy making it they were whispering "she hasn't folded that properly "
At this point I was panicking and sweating
Shaking the works
Anyway I made the bed (in a fashion )
The head of housekeeping just said
"Sorry we won't be offering you this role "
Then I left
I'm so embarrassed

Don't be embarrassed. They sound like cunts. That is not a way to conduct an interview and it sounds like you have dodged a bullet working for them.

CatchHimDerry · 29/07/2024 17:55

Seriously don’t be, they sound like unprofessional twats and you wouldn’t want to work there anyway

Strawberryshortcake14 · 29/07/2024 17:56

That sounds horrendous, and like you were set up to fail. It's definitely not something you should feel bad about, they were awful to you.

That's terrible, really sorry to hear that. It's more their issue of being very unprofessional than yours.
Fingers crossed for you for your next role.

toomanytonotice · 29/07/2024 17:57

Nope it’s them not you.

working there would be hell with them constantly nitpicking with no proper training.

they don’t care they’ve made you feel bad either. Forget about them and move on.

ScribblingPixie · 29/07/2024 17:58

Oh OP, that doesn't reflect on you in the slightest. What a ridiculous, poorly judged situation on their part. Try to roll your eyes over their lack of professionalism and move on. You would have hated working for them.

TrivialProblem · 29/07/2024 17:58

Don’t beat yourself up about it. They sound like they would have been awful to work for.

If you wanted to, you could maybe email their HR and suggest that future interviews need to take account of the fact that they are stating that training will be given rather than expecting applicants to know their procedures already. But you’re under no obligation to do that and it’s their own fault that they’re potentially missing out on some great hard workers.

Onwards and upwards. You will find a better place to work. I’m sorry you had to go through that. All the best in your job hunt 🌼

Lincoln24 · 29/07/2024 17:59

They are bullies.
You are well out of it.

SusieTrevelyan · 29/07/2024 17:59

Not your fault. Very poor interviews skills on their part.

Biancobianca · 29/07/2024 17:59

Well that's bizarre and sounds like hell.

bossybloss · 29/07/2024 17:59

I would be sending a Tweet to the Hilton calling this out ! Appalling treatment

FragmentedProvision · 29/07/2024 18:00

That's awful and no one should be put through an experience like that. I hope you find something suitable soon, with decent workmates.

Twicethethinker · 29/07/2024 18:01

Wow you dodged a bullet there, would you even want to work with this bunch of pricks? Pour yourself a wine to celebrate not getting the job 🥂

Quitelikeacatslife · 29/07/2024 18:02

You've had a lucky escape there, sorry if it was a job you needed bug that's no way to treat people.

doodlisaxx · 29/07/2024 18:02

I honestly came home feeling so low.
I had been revising questions all week with my STAR responses.
I am kicking myself for even applying
After years of administrative roles I thought I would try something new.
I took all my gcse/a level info with me and they didn't even ask.

It was just so intimidating

I honestly thought it would be a interview with questions
Then you would start and shadow a attendant whilst you found your feet

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 29/07/2024 18:02

That is very poor on their part.
You don't know the background to it so do not take it personally.
Maybe they are being forced to take on someone rather than be paid overtime.
Maybe they have a friend lined up for the role.
Maybe they othered you as being professional (arriving early isn't a sin ffs).
Their loss OP.
Fuck 'em.

PurpleReindeer2 · 29/07/2024 18:03

So sorry OP. They sound hideous and like you'd have got no support from the management team. You're best off out of it. Why don't you apply for some care jobs as you've got lots of experience of caring for your mum. Ring a few local care homes and ask if you can go in and have a chat with the manager. If you're personable and understand what it's like supporting the elderly I think they'd give you a chance. They can train you on the job. Good luck x

JabbaTheBeachHut · 29/07/2024 18:04

Giving you 'daggers' and 'rolling their eyes'?

I mean, really?

This doesn't make sense if they've never met you before?

mintich · 29/07/2024 18:04

Well that sounds like an awful place to work! Be glad you've found that out now.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 29/07/2024 18:04

Do NOT be embarrassed. If anyone should be it’s the hotel staff.
That is not an interview, absolutely ridiculous.
And ask yourself if you’d really like to work with idiots like that., day in day out.
The right job is out there for you.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 29/07/2024 18:06

bossybloss · 29/07/2024 17:59

I would be sending a Tweet to the Hilton calling this out ! Appalling treatment

And this too!! I bet higher up management don’t have a clue what’s going on. I almost wish one if the papers picks this up.

Waterbaby41 · 29/07/2024 18:07

Please let the HR department/hotel manager know what happened. This is totally unprofessional and reflects very badly on the hotel. It won't get you the job (lucky you who would want to work for them!!) but hopefully no one else will be bullied like this. Onwards and upwards - next time - at a proper interview - you will smash it!

Superworm24 · 29/07/2024 18:08

It sounds like you've dodged a bullet. Can you imagine how gossipy and bitchy it would be working there?

Mybusyday · 29/07/2024 18:08

LuckysDadsHat · 29/07/2024 17:54

Absolutely this - they don't deserve you, you deserve a much better job than this

You've dodged a bullet here. They were awful.
