Put the country before himself - yes, finally, but he’s done it.

Please God let my country be ok.

Let’s hope this allows a change of outcome for the better. Trump cannot be allowed to win.

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/07/2024 18:59

The right decision.

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 21/07/2024 18:59

I suspect it is now a shoe-in for Trump!
There's nobody there to take up the mantle.

HangingOnJustAbout · 21/07/2024 19:00

I can't find this, do you have a link?

Nothing on the white house page.

CelesteCunningham · 21/07/2024 19:00

It's the right decision but Christ what a responsibility it is for whoever gets the nomination.

Flowers @Mommybunny , it must be a very stressful time to be American.

He tweeted it from his own account about 15 minutes ago.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/07/2024 19:01

It's on BBC news site

IncompleteSenten · 21/07/2024 19:02

It is the right decision.

anonhop · 21/07/2024 19:02

Yes, in the Times.

Right thing to do. He clearly was struggling + I think at age 82, signing up to do anything for 4 years is a big ask (nobody is guaranteed tomorrow, but it is riskier with age!) especially something as crucial as leader of the free world in such turbulent global times

It was a shoe in before. Biden stepping down can't have made it worse for the democrats.

lawnseed · 21/07/2024 19:04

He's wasted everyone's time and it's too late to catch up. He's handed the white house to ghastly trump.

powershowerforanhour · 21/07/2024 19:04

Good wishes to him and very best of luck to his successor.

Aworldofmyown · 21/07/2024 19:04

Thank goodness!

lolly792 · 21/07/2024 19:05

Ah, Sleepy Joe needed to go! Wishing him well - I'm sure he could do with a rest!

SilverGlitterBaubles · 21/07/2024 19:05

Really should have happened sooner but we are here now so let's hope there is a sensible outcome, especially now Trump thinks he is the messiah

Mommybunny · 21/07/2024 19:05

It really is stressful being American right now. Biden has been such a good President and it seems so unfair that he had to step down but age comes for all of us. If Trump wins then the complaint that Biden was too old will be just bullshit. I hope he gets a rapturous hero’s welcome at the convention. He’s done the right thing.

Sorry I’m not making much sense right now (and I’m only 57!) but this has made me emotional.

No I don't believe that @DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace
Up until a few weeks ago polls were showing he was the only one to beat Trump.
It is very late in the day to throw in the towel, no matter what the pressure on you from your so called colleagues.
The democrats do not have long to come up with another candidate who will have the popularity or support to beat Trump now.

Appalonia · 21/07/2024 19:06

He posted this letter on TwiX

Joe Biden is out - God bless him
shellyleppard · 21/07/2024 19:08

@Mommybunny I'm glad he's withdrawn, he's looking very old and frail whenever he's been on the news. I'm not a big follower of US politics but I i sincerely hope you get someone decent 🙏 ❤️
