Why does everybody hate Trump?

athosporthos · 19/07/2024 09:31

First off, please don't flame me, I genuinely am not up to scratch on US affairs/politicians in general - I only do brief research for our own UK elections, and even then I generally only decide by whoever promises to help the NHS and living costs most believably!

Can someone give me some examples on why he's so hated - or on the other hand, why some people love him so much?

Some hate him for the misogyny. Some for the lies. Some for the crimes committed. Some for the philandering. Some for the racism.

Ganog · 19/07/2024 09:43

Because he advocates grabbing women by the pussy?

Meadowfinch · 19/07/2024 09:45

Because he's an ignorant and misogynistic creep.

Because his policies are appalling. Because he's corrupt and dishonest, a rabble rouser with no respect for the well-being of others or the rule of law.

That's just for starters 🙂

As the court explained in its recent decision denying Mr Trump’s motion for a new trial on damages and other relief [in the New York case] … based on all of the evidence at trial and the jury’s verdict as a whole, the jury’s finding that Mr Trump ‘sexually abused’ Ms Carroll implicitly determined that he forcibly penetrated her digitally – in other words, that Mr Trump in fact did ‘rape’ Ms Carroll as that term commonly is used and understood in contexts outside of the New York penal law.”

For starters.

NewDogOwner · 19/07/2024 09:54

Rapist. Professional bullshitter so will literally say anything so cannot be trusted at all. Has proven himself to be angry and vengeful and has no respect for the law so is extremely dangerous.

goneveryquiet · 19/07/2024 09:55

I think his general air of mean spirited attitude. I have never seen a genuine kind act or celebration of one. I feel sad for America as it's given a real voice to unpleasantness and fear

CarrotPatchDoll · 19/07/2024 09:56

He's a sex offender.

kikisparks · 19/07/2024 09:57

He incites riots, has no respect for the rule of law, is a narcissist, cares about his own ego over all else, makes fun of disabled people, is a criminal, is a misogynist, sexually assaults women, is a liar, is a racist and in positions of power is easily manipulated and volatile, therefore dangerous.

Aussieland · 19/07/2024 09:58

Rapist
Possible paedophile (went with Epstein to his island several times)
liar
treason
corrupt business man
treated all his contractors and workers incredibly badly his whole career and has continued
right wing
would rather be friends with Putin, Xi etc and let them get on with taking over whatever they want to as long as it advances his mates than support moral causes

That sort of thing

frozendaisy · 19/07/2024 09:59

He's just not good enough in many ways to be leader of the free world.

He is not presidential.

SiobhanSharpe · 19/07/2024 09:59

Will all this do, OP?

Rapist. Professional bullshitter so will literally say anything so cannot be trusted at all. Has proven himself to be angry and vengeful and has no respect for the law so is extremely dangerous.

And alleged peadophile (named in court documents)

Spouts absolute rubbish

Lies more than Boris Johnson

Racist. Misogynist. Leaning strongly into facisicm.

Picks an inflammatory issue to trumpet and fans the flame.

Freedoms & civil liberties were curtailed under his last presidency, he copied up to Putin & North Korea. Poor businessman (he's all about image, once he took over the family business he drove it to bankruptcy-he & it owe obscene amounts of money. He's all mouth & no trousers)

What awaits the USA should he win the election is a truly dystopian nightmare.

LuisCarol · 19/07/2024 10:01

He's a convicted rapist and fraudster.

TheABC · 19/07/2024 10:02

January 6th. He could bear to lose, so instead he set a mob on the Capitol to prevent the transfer of power. Shameful. He's also a child rapist (see the Epstein files) and prolific liar. The withdrawal mess in Afghanistan is down to his botched deal over there. I can't believe the Republican party took one look and said "yes; that's exactly who we want to lead us. A narcissistic egomaniac who thinks the truth is a rare substance found on Venus."

330 million people in the US and that's the best they could find?!

KikiShaLeeBopDeBopBop · 19/07/2024 10:02

Appeared to commit electoral fraud at the last presidential election & when he still lost it, claimed the result was fraudulent & illegal. Claimed a conspiracy, incited an attempted coup d'etat.

On top of all that, I find him physically repulsive, too.

SiobhanSharpe · 19/07/2024 09:59

Will all this do, OP?

Yep, that'll do it 😳

Jesus Christ I had no idea! I'd just assumed he was really controversial in his approach/a bit of a rich idiot!

I'd heard the 'grab her by the pussy' comments and obviously thought that was shit, but I had absolutely no idea of the context or anything. Not that that's ever ok to say! But you know what I mean, I didn't know if it was just a shit joke.

wonderings2 · 19/07/2024 10:08

Nothing new to add to the PP but what really concerns me is the absolute stupidity:

"we need global warming, I was just in New York and its cold"
"People with Covid should drink disinfectant"

and Im sure they are plenty of others ....

Abhannmor · 19/07/2024 10:12

I never really thought about it logically if I'm honest. More of a visceral response? The same way most people are not sexually attracted to Jabba the Hut.

Colourbrain · 19/07/2024 10:12

He has no capacity for self reflection or self responsibility. He thinks he is invincible and has just said that God saved his life. He has completely lost touch with his own humanity. His popularity is alarming and I can only conclude that he is mirroring something that people want, which in itself is depressing and revealing.

Dontcallmescarface · 19/07/2024 10:14

Because he's a cunt.

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/07/2024 10:15

He was so pissed off that he lost the last election that he incited a riot that posed a proper threat to US democracy. And what everyone else said.

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 19/07/2024 10:19

I don't want to flame you OP but I am a bit surprised you can be this oblivious.

To add to all the reasons already provided, let's talk about how he's been actively working to remove women's reproductive rights and a general understanding that he is astonishingly corrupt.

NZDreaming · 19/07/2024 10:20

@athosporthos as for why he’s so popular:

  • he was a tv host before being a politician so had a lot of people onside to start with
  • hes the republican candidate, in the USA you’re either democrat or republican, so you pick a side (way more than even in the uk), so some will support him just on the basis of that’s their party, like many democrats will support Biden even though they don’t think he should be running
  • he appeals to those who cling to the old idea of the American dream because he presents himself as self made (which he is most definitely not) and he’s seen as aspirational
  • He says whatever he wants which appeals to those who feel the world is too politically correct
  • he appeals to voters much like Boris Johnson or Nigel farage does in the uk - straightforward, successful, clever in business, one of the people, understands how the world works, someone they could see being friends with (the fact that none of this is true doesn’t seem to register for some reason)
  • he’s not at all progressive when it comes to the environment, gender and race equality, immigration etc and there are a lot of people who unfortunately feel the same and want to ‘get their country back’
Midge75 · 19/07/2024 10:21

All of the above. I can barely look at him, to be honest. And the lies! The way he speaks! Just recently he was talking about the assassination attempt because apparently "many people" had asked him "please, please tell us". He talks about putting his hand up to his ear and bringing it down covered in blood, blood pouring everywhere - we all saw the pictures and video and still he lies about even small things like this (not the assassination attempt - obviously that's big! But the amount of blood - why bother lying?!) When he lies so blatantly about the small stuff, I don't know how anyone can trust anything that comes out of his mouth.
