Why does everybody hate Trump?

First off, please don't flame me, I genuinely am not up to scratch on US affairs/politicians in general - I only do brief research for our own UK elections, and even then I generally only decide by whoever promises to help the NHS and living costs most believably!

Can someone give me some examples on why he's so hated - or on the other hand, why some people love him so much?

@ginasevern I just don't follow US politics at all. Of course I've heard about Trump, I know he was president and know he's running now, I know he's unpopular, I've seen bits and pieces on the TV and things have popped up on my news apps. I'm not absolutely oblivious. But I was asking for some real details to explain the hatred against him, which I've never looked into because it doesn't concern or usually interest me. The recent assassination attempt had piqued my curiosity. I had no idea about lots of these comments!

I think it's ok to not know everything (and to ask questions) about a may or may not be leader of another country.

Don't wish to be rude, but how do you not know this?

I watch the news sometimes, I read social media (including mn) and its everywhere, to the extent I cannot fathom how you dont know?

He's just not good enough in many ways to be leader of the free world.

He is not presidential.

None of them are. I find it strange that only Biden and Trump seem to be the chosen ones. There is no free world, and it's all bollocks, until I see anything that tells me otherwise.

@ThistleWitch Honestly I think my brain must just disengage when anything about him or Biden comes up in my notifications/on here. I do pay a little bit more attention toward UK affairs (although by no means do I follow closely!).

Had no idea about the Sandy Hook hoax comments. That really is shocking!

You don't need to be up to speed on politics. Just listen to him. He's disgusting.

MakingPlans2025 · 19/07/2024 15:04

he's almost certainly a rapist. he's a fascist. He's racist. he's a liar. how do you not know this?

Okisenough · 19/07/2024 15:04

TheYoungestSibling · 19/07/2024 09:41

Some hate him for the misogyny. Some for the lies. Some for the crimes committed. Some for the philandering. Some for the racism.

This for reasons why they hate him and also this for why they love him

hattie43 · 19/07/2024 15:13

Not everyone clearly given people turn up to his rallies .

Because he is a rapist, bigot, liar and fraud. And that's just for starters. I am more surprised you need people to tell you.

StarDolphins · 19/07/2024 15:17

Everything ne doesn’t hate him as far as I can see! Otherwise he wouldn’t be in with a chance of winning.

GingerPirate · 19/07/2024 15:17

I don't and never have done.

JennyWren87 · 19/07/2024 15:20

For me it was when he made fun of disabled people. But I wouldn't say I hate him. I ak worried about a second Trump presidency and what it would mean for Ukraine and climate change.

Sums it up in a nutshell.
He's also manipulative, narcissistic, amoral, wilfully ignorant - but that's reasonably standard for any 'big' politician.

Ooh that's interesting, are you comfortable sharing your views?

I'd be really interested to hear, if anyone feels like sharing their thoughts, what you make of the idea of a second Trump term in light of Roe vs Wade, Schedule F and Project 2025? (Trump is denying all knowledge of P25 but I reckon his pants might be preparing to combust.)

Are you being sarcastic, OP? 😊
In case you aren't, his "crimes" and misogyny
are not of my interest.
He seems a genuine patriot, far more coherent than the current US President and as I recently saw, he seems to have some balls too.
I think he would make an alright US President with some benefits to the UK.
For info, I'm female, 45, child free. 😁

SilenceInside · 19/07/2024 15:32

To be clear @athosporthos I don't hate Trump. There are very few people I actually hate in this world. However, I find him deeply flawed, deeply unpleasant, deeply harmful and so on and so on. He is not someone I admire, look up to, I don't rate his business acumen, his intelligence or his understanding. I think he's entirely self-focussed and happy to use any leverage he can to gain power, money and influence. I think he doesn't see anyone other than men like him as worthwhile.

I think his populism stems from the fact that he says and does what other people wish they could say and do without consequence.

EsmaCannonball · 19/07/2024 15:32

Calling prisoners of war losers for being captured when he himself dodged the draft.

The general rapeyness.

Mainly it's because he is financially backed by seriously dodgy money from Russia and Kazakhstan (possibly other places, too) and those are the people who will be actually running things if he gets in. His backers haven't finished asset-stripping Ukraine and Africa yet. He's part of the trend of government by gangsterism (see Putin as another example).

beguilingeyes · 19/07/2024 15:37

Stacking the Supreme Court so he could overturn Roe vs Wade. He's well on the way to banning abortion completely in the US. His new VP candidate doesn't believe in abortion even for rape or incest.
Disliking sex-offenders is left wing now?
I think he would immediately pull all support from Ukraine...which would be bad news for all of us.
He buried his ex-wife on one of his golf courses. What is he hiding in that coffin?

athosporthos · 19/07/2024 15:46

@GingerPirate I wasn't being sarcastic, it's really interesting to see a different opinion among the comments.
I have noticed he seems much more coherent than Biden, that's true.

Because he advocates grabbing women by the pussy?

This. Sums up his true self quite well.

Collexifon · 19/07/2024 15:56

He's a snake oil salesman. Like Nigel Farage.

Frith2013 · 19/07/2024 16:06

All of the above.

And his stupid hair.

Echobelly · 19/07/2024 16:08

Because he's a cruel, dishonest bully who only values 'winning' and acquisition of material goods. He has no spiritual life at all - I can't imagine him ever being moved by art, or music or other people's happiness.

He has a long record of not paying honest suppliers for their work and tying them up legally so they never get paid. There are many records of this behaviour. I've heard of one person killing himself because his business was ruined by Trump not paying them, and I'll wager he's not the only one.

He is one of he least generous millionaires in the world, and has misused money from a charitable foundation for his own purposes.

He's actually a rubbish businessman and not especially successful given what he started with.

He's massively ignorant and just assumes the world works the way he thinks it does and that he knows everything he needs to know, but has demonstrated time and again he has no clue what he's talking about most of the time. His vocabulary is incredibly limited.

He has admitted to being a sexual abuser.

He does not care about anyone except himself and gaining power. I don't think he actually gives a toss about abortion, for example but if it wins him votes he'll be all for it (note he flip-flops a bit about it depending on how popular it seems to be). He literally gives no fucks about the immense suffering abortion bans cause for women and children. He's no Christian but because he knows middle America loves it he's going to let Christian Fundamentalism into the White House, which will destroy America as we know it.
