Why does everybody hate Trump?

athosporthos · 19/07/2024 09:31

First off, please don't flame me, I genuinely am not up to scratch on US affairs/politicians in general - I only do brief research for our own UK elections, and even then I generally only decide by whoever promises to help the NHS and living costs most believably!

Can someone give me some examples on why he's so hated - or on the other hand, why some people love him so much?

I don’t disagree with all of this, but I don’t think Trump overturned Roe v Wade. I thought it was the Supreme Court during Biden’s term?

Goldenbear · 20/07/2024 18:34

I watched a documentary on him on Netflix and he used to appear not as showy and I was surprised that he employed a female engineer in the late 70s or 80s for one of his buildings!

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/07/2024 18:36

I'm sorry OP, I'm not one for flaming people for what they don't know. But COME ON!!!

Who were all Republican appointees.

MrsAnon6 · 20/07/2024 18:38

I hate him because he's crooked and has got away with it and because of all the above but also because of his stance on abortion (and that men should get a say in it) as well as his abolition of the Affordablr Care Act. Why should only the rich be entitled to good healthcare?!

@Golden407

the political establishment hate him, have been caught out lying and spreading misinformation about him

Could you give some examples? I'm a fairly avid consumer of news and have come across very little of this, but would be interested in seeing what's out there.

The whole thing about him being in Putins pocket. Putin must have something on him. There was even a story repeated across several national newspapers claiming a hotel room he stayed in in Moscow had been bugged and they had something incriminating on him. Of course Putin also helped fix the election for him to win

No evidence for any of this this but a section of the media presented it as a probable truth

The problem I think is it muddies the waters. Trump is enough of a bellend to discredit himself. When the media introduces contrived bollocks people question the validity of their opinion of him

People hate him cos he's a real man. Ruthless aggression.

A real man who wears nappies and lifts in his shoes...ok.

EsmaCannonball · 20/07/2024 20:08

From what I read in Tom Burgis's Kleptopia, it's not necessarily that the Russians have blackmail material on Trump, it's that his money comes from corrupt Russian or ex-Soviet sources. Trump's name goes on the building but the money comes from elsewhere.

I have a feeling that when/if Trump wins the election the Russians will trade back Evan Gershkovich to make it seem as if Trump has some pro-American channels in dealing with Russia. Meanwhile Russia will expand its colonialism in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa, murdering and stealing its way to lots of money and power for Putin and his cronies.

bravefox · 20/07/2024 20:31

People will vote for him for all the same reasons people voted for Reform.

And he promises to make petrol cheaper at the pumps (which probably carries more weight than anything else tbh!)

haveatye · 21/07/2024 10:55

People believing billionaires when they say that penniless immigrants are taking all the money.

Absolute gormless morons.

You can guarantee this "theory" has been thoroughly investigated and if they're were any truth in it, or even anything that vaguely corroborated the theory then it would be persistently replayed by certain sections of the media. The fact this hasn't happened suggests strongly they're is no truth in it

beguilingeyes · 21/07/2024 13:59

And then there's this...

Why does everybody hate Trump?
TwigTheWonderKid · 21/07/2024 16:58

Not flaming you but I honestly don't understand how you can exist in this world and only engage in what is going on every 4-5 years?

UnfriendMe · 21/07/2024 18:40

beguilingeyes · 19/07/2024 19:24

That first paragraph could absolutely apply to Johnson over here.

You're not wrong and the Tories were horrible for the UK, but imagine if the Tories were also religious nut jobs who wanted to impose their idiotic views on the rest of the country and deny basic human rights and healthcare, then you would have the republican party.

UnfriendMe · 21/07/2024 18:46

MrsAnon6 · 20/07/2024 18:40

My understanding is that they were appointed by Donald Trump though.

Trump appointed 3 people to the supreme court, stacking it for conservatives. Lifetime appointees as well, which is just incredibly stupid. This was by far one of the worst things he's done and pushed America back 50 years easily.

UnfriendMe · 21/07/2024 19:04

FUBAR77 · 19/07/2024 11:34

Aside from everything already mentioned, I also think Americans (not all obviously!) are crazy!!

Did anyone see in his speech yesterday lots of people in the crowd had plasters on their ears?! Just would never happen here!

Also Hulk Hogan there ripping his TShirt off 🤪

American here and I think Trump is an absolute piece of shit, I really don't understand how he was able to suck so many people in, especially with the blatant hypocrisy.

The daily show did a great bit about his speech though. For one, the people who advocated for him really weren't the cream of the crop in any way but more importantly, nobody who actually worked closely with him in his previous administration was up there BC they all think he's unfit and incompetent, including his previous VP, that says it all.

Firing all the people who knew what they were doing from national security.

Op, Mumsnet is very left wing so you are only going to read negative things about Trump.

Rather than blindly following left wing posters opinions, form your own and look at other sites where people support Trump and read what they have to say about him and why they support him as millions do.

Then you can form your own opinion.

Rather than stating that Mumsnet is 'very left wing' perhaps you could give some evidence to support your views.

I think it is fair to say that the majority of the posters on here are British - but not exclusively.

Our news sources are, on the whole, fairly unbiased - certainly compared to much that Americans are exposed to.

Hate is perhaps the wrong, and possibly too strong a word - but that was the posters choice. I might have used 'actively dislike, 'distrust' or 'fear' (his reelection)

I would argue that Donald Trump has tainted others' opinion of himself by his own actions that have been reported, over here, in a generally neutral manner.

We saw him speak about grabbing women - his own words.
We saw him mocking a disabled reporter.
We heard him suggesting that a demonstrator at one of his conventions be roughed up.
We saw him encouraging demonstrators to fight on Jan 6th.
We saw his behaviour towards others when building his golf course.

Of course your advice to people to make up their own minds is correct - to be widely read.

However your advice, to primarily UK residents, to look up Trump supporting sites is likely to produce more who are skeptical of him, his abilities, aims, personality - especially if Vox pops on these sites are watched.

toomanytonotice · 21/07/2024 19:29

I think a lot of his supporters are the ones who vehemently disagreed with Obama’s policies such as gun control and Medicaid.

people feel so strongly about those things they’d vote against anyone who said they’d get rid of them.

plus build a wall to keep the Mexicans out.

Billybagpuss · 21/07/2024 19:45

Aside from all the things mentioned previously that makes him an odious little man. What did it for me was a documentary during his first campaign where he refused to pay tradesmen who had done work for him and told them to ‘sue him’ which of course they couldn’t afford to do. Any honest man, pays what is due.

to quote Douglas Adam’s ‘anyone capable of getting themselves elected president should on no account be allowed to do the job.’

Some hate him for the misogyny. Some for the lies. Some for the crimes committed. Some for the philandering. Some for the racism.

Yes, this. With added ableism.

That was the media reporting on the Steele Dossier. Some of it seems to be true, some maybe not.

However, if you google Trump Russia ties you will learn, from some very reputable and well-sourced publications exactly how deep and troubling the ties between Trump, many of his associates, and Russia are. There is lots of information on this. I don't give the slightest fuck if he had some prostitutes pee on him. I care about the rest of it. If you believe the Steele Dossier is as deep as the reporting on Trump-Russia goes, you are really not very well informed.
