Things I never thought I would find sexy in a partner....

Context: I have a new(ish) fella after 16 years of being with a total and utter twat.
I am finding some of the things that he does so so sexy.....

  • he can pack shopping properly, no misshapen bread at the bottom of the bag, no squashed sausages, refrigerated stuff all in one bag together and food separated from cleaning products.
  • he really knows how to do laundry - I am talking colour sorting, lovely scented detergents, looking at the care labels...Nice. Fluffy. Towels.
I mean, there are loads more things but I am a little too excited to mention them right now... Me in my 20s would be utterly confused, but in my 40s I honestly cannot get enough of the man.

I can't help but wonder if other MN Posters have had a similar shift in their tastes over the last 20 years?

I find it very sexy when my OH does DIY! Can’t explain it. When XH did it there was lots of moaning, I’ve come to realise he didn’t really know what he was doing. He was very much a ‘bash it in’ type..(undoing something of the things he did made that clear). Whereas my OH now knows what he’s doing, will talk me through it so I’m learning. Something very appealing about it! 🤣

Competent reversing. Extra points if it is a big vehicle/tractor/has a trailer or if he puts his hand on my seat to check backwards. Blimey.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/07/2024 14:11

Makes a lot of tea ☕️

This is literally his most important job

And dog cuddling. He's always cuddling one of them.

MiddleAgedDread · 15/07/2024 14:11

mine irons his duvet cover!

Have you seen the Michael mcintyre skit about this?

OrlandointheWilderness · 15/07/2024 14:13

And I'm really, so so sorry MN...

Rescuing me with something I'm struggling to do then doing it in a quiet, confident manner. Like putting together my raised garden beds. Or loading the dishwasher (Yes, I am crap!), or moving the spider out of the shower. It is so anti feminist to be rescued but I bloody love it 😂even while I'm trying not too!

No, didn't know there was one! Ohh have to check that out!

Udonoodles4Tea · 15/07/2024 14:17

Oh my goodness ladies, I am so glad it isn't just me 😆

Another couple:

  • he always drives and I actually love being a passenger princess. He reaches over and puts his hand on my thigh or holds my hand whilst driving (not gropey, just nice) and I am like jelly 😂
  • also a car journey one, he always has bottles of water, cans of pepsi max, sun cream, umbrellas and hand sanitiser wipes in the car and when we go out for the day he makes sure there are plenty of places with toilets / tea and coffee options along the way

Hand holding. It’s so underrated and it makes me melt, particularly when he looks like he is bursting with pride to do it.

Hey, @OrlandointheWilderness we all struggle with things from time to time and someone who quietly helps without gloating or making us feel stupid is definitely a plus

He saw me taking the bin bag out and took over. Phwoar.

Udonoodles4Tea · 15/07/2024 14:23

@Arlanymor oh yes, the handholding is definitely melt worthy

He sounds great OP! If I was single and searching I think I'd advertise for a 'practical' man above all else. Ideally someone who enjoys cooking or more importantly, meal planning. I can't think of anything more wonderful than not having to think about it for 24 hours.

Udonoodles4Tea · 15/07/2024 14:25

Ironing bedding, making tea, the hand on the back of the seat when competently reversing....goodness me, it is a wonder we get anything done with these hunks in our lives. Steamy.
And I am not even being sarcastic ☺️

Being able to bake to a professional level

Being able to sew to a professional level

Having a hairy back!

Ex had all 3, doubt I’ll ever find that exact combo again, but it did it for me

Udonoodles4Tea · 15/07/2024 14:26

@StStormingNorman Yes! A prince among men

Edited

how come he's an ex?!

OrlandointheWilderness · 15/07/2024 14:28

Funny isn't it! In my early twenties it was the dark, moody, handsome young twat who was a bit of a tit, drank too much and listen to depressing music. Never knew how to iron/clean/cook and sneered at men who did. Now its the complete opposite! Kind, caring, gentle is what I think of when I think manly these days. Doesn't hurt that he looks like a viking and smells bloody gorgeous!

Udonoodles4Tea · 15/07/2024 14:29

Yeah @wwowzw , how come he's an ex? Perhaps it wasn't all hairy backs and hemming your curtains 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn't say it's sexy, but not being able to do basic stuff like laundry and shopping is definitely a turn off. I don't know how some men feel good about themselves when they are so incapable/incompetent, how are they not embarrassed. My FIL proudly says that he doesn't know where the pans are and has never made a meal, yet thinks he's a big man. He's like a toddler waiting for mummy, that is his wife, to bring him food and make his clothes clean. Embarrassing.

CornedBeef451 · 15/07/2024 14:33

The shopping packing would do it for me!

Oh definitely! I don't think we should be in awe of our partners just for pulling their weight and doing normal things, that is certainly not the case.

The only thing worse than incompetent toddler adults are adults who feel like they deserve a medal for doing things.

I think what I find sexy is DP just doing these things with no ego, no thought process, no expectations, not for "brownie points" and doing them well.
Doing things how I would do them myself. Doing things for me / us because he wouldn't consider leaving them for me to do. Taking care over little things because he feels that they are important.

He’s an ex because would regularly lose his shit at me. Anger issues. Big time. I dragged it on and on because what a holy trinity?!

MounjaroUser · 15/07/2024 14:44

It's just watching someone who's good at what they're doing. Someone who's capable and competent. A million extra marks for someone who thinks ahead, too.
