And how soon" competition.

My money's on David Lammy by February.

Think Shabana Mahmood will have hard time staying with the state of prison problems currently. I would be glad to see her go.

I would love to see the back of Angela Rayner - but she is so slow, she is unlikely to even realise what's happening when it's already happened.

There are a few not very intelligent folks in the Cabinet, happy only with Ed Miliband and Alan Campbell - they've seen enough to keep the cabinet on straight and narrow.

Do you mean they didn't go to private school, so are not intelligent enough for the cabinet? Or perhaps they are too Northern?

bellinisurge · 10/07/2024 11:15

I think Lammy too. He's thick. You can only hide that for so long

Or perhaps they are just not right and it’s nothing to do with being northern or not privately educated?

Why is he ‘thick?’

I know everyone on MN likes to dislike him.

l like him, and Angela Raynor. She’s just what the country needs.

I don't see correlation between intelligence and being northern and intelligence and going to private school. It's interesting that you put these things together though!

RomanRoysSearchHistory · 10/07/2024 11:21

Are you really THIS bored? 🙄

Lammy was the first Black Briton to attend Harvard Law School, where he did his masters. He's worked in some big US law firms, and taught at the University of London.

What's your criteria for "not thick"?

noblegiraffe · 10/07/2024 11:24

Rayner was elected deputy leader by the members, not appointed by Starmer.

Lammy studied at Harvard.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 10/07/2024 11:24

Dont be so silly, OP. The French are looking forward to hosting David Lammy at Versailles, and showing him the room where Marie Antoinette discovered radium.

oh, and if Trump,is re elected, he and Lammy will have a good laugh together about the inflatable.

David "dinosaurs hoarding rights" Lammy doesn't exactly inspire confidence in 50% of the electorate does he?
On that statement alone he should be nowhere near any government department and I will keep repeating this every time his name appears anywhere

That shit. That concerns about 1% of the population.

Moonshiners · 10/07/2024 11:32

I love Rayner she clever, sparky and passionate.
Lammy I know less about.
More importantly could Labour have as many changes of PM as the Tories have done (a record 5 in 14 years whereas labour had 2 in 12 years)

Moonshiners · 10/07/2024 11:34

10 education secretaries in 13 years must also be a record.

I see your 10 education secretaries and raise you 12 culture secretaries!

Honestly, it's only now, looking back, we can truly see what a shitshow the Tories ran. The new Labour Cabinet members, with the exception of Lisa Nandy, were in their shadow jobs for longer than Tory Cabinet members held the actual posts, such was the revolving door.

"That shit" concerns women - about half the population - 50%. Lammy was a public advocate for a second Brexit referendum, because in his view the result was too close. When asked about this, Lammy stated, "I spoke for half the country at the time.” Amazing that with Brexit similar figures are "half the country" but with women's rights half the population are dismissed as "dinosaurs on the right."

Yes, very true. Some stability at last!

Please don't assume you speak for all women.

I know lm a woman, my friends are women. It’s only on MN any one cares about it.

In real life they don’t.

Shabana Mahmoud has openly supported terrorism marches and attended them so should never have been given this brief in the first place. But let’s see what happens

Exactly. I watch Laura K show on Sundays, and Mahmoud was there way too often. Her narrative is deeply damaging. But nothing I personally can do about her appointment, so only time will show!
