@bellinisurge I hardly think Lammy is thick- he was the first British black guy to do law at Harvard- rather eclipses Rees Moggs2.1 in history-

What you mean is he doesn't 'talk posh'

MrHarleyQuin · 10/07/2024 12:28

There will probably be three Tory leaders and all five Reform MP will have behaved inappropriately and had to resign before anyone in government has to resign.

I see your 10 education secretaries and raise you 12 culture secretaries!

Honestly, it's only now, looking back, we can truly see what a shitshow the Tories ran. The new Labour Cabinet members, with the exception of Lisa Nandy, were in their shadow jobs for longer than Tory Cabinet members held the actual posts, such was the revolving door.

This. This thread is hilarious. The last 14 years have been an utter mess, yet this government have been in for days and some posters are slagging them off already.

The previous government were fucking awful.

Moonshine5 · 10/07/2024 12:32

OP are you bored? Lol jokes aside it is a
a vindictive post.

rumblegrumble · 10/07/2024 12:32

Fingers crossed both Lammy and Mahmood are out quickly, they're both completely unsuitable for their roles. In fact, I'd struggle to think of positions they're more unsuited to - someone who has publicly attacked many of our allies' leaders (which is stupid behaviour for any politician) being made foreign secretary? Seriously?! Someone who's been involved in pro-terrorism marches given responsibility for prisons and justice?! Lammy's disgusting comments on women and his very obvious general ignorance just make this even more of a terrible joke. I'm already cringing hard at the thought of him representing us on the world stage.

David Lammy went to Harvard Law School. Have you been to Harvard Law School OP?

Vergus · 10/07/2024 12:37

@Zimunya

I don't speak for anyone - I'm not in parliament. David Lammy is, so it would be helpful if he understood both biology and percentages.

😆

@RJnomore1 "Great a lovely mix of racism classism and misogyny for a Wednesday lunch time …"

Indeed. And there was me thinking this might be quite an entertaining thread!

Why did you think that though?
It’s a bizarre topic - why do you think any of them will lose their jobs anytime soon? Why do you seem so gleeful for it? Couldn’t you immediately tell what it would lead to - everyone’s prejudices spewing everywhere and an opportunity to criticise a new government for stuff they haven’t done yet 🤷‍♀️
It’s mind boggling.

bluelavender · 10/07/2024 12:39

Id rather we have a period of stability with ministers holding their briefs for a decent length of time; developing a good understanding and being able to improve strategy or delivery

Also, for the sake of accurate reporting, Lammy never used the word 'grow' when referring to trans women having a cervix. This is his quote, when responding to a question by Nick Ferrari that only women can have a cervix. Not stating an opinion myself, just clarifying the word 'grow' was never used.

"I don't know if it's transphobic, but it it's not, accurate, Nick. I mean, obviously, it's probably the case that only, that trans women don't have ovaries. But a cervix, I understand, is something that you can have, following various procedures and hormone treatment and all the rest of it."

I'm prepared to accept that he was vague on how men acquire a cervix but still strangely certain despite obviously not actually knowing anything about it.
I'm not convinced that dogmatic certainty on a subject you know less than nothing about is a great trait for a foreign secretary.
It is true that he is likely to work better with our European counterparts but only because his bombastic certainties have ordained that.
His style is going to work until it doesn't, I think senior politicians need more diplomacy, subtlety and flexibility.

Zonder · 10/07/2024 12:45

AzureAnt · 10/07/2024 12:20

He clearly didn't study human biology 🤣🤣

Correct. Did you study human biology? And countless other subjects so you never make a mistake?

Anyway first to lose their job? Sunak.

Vergus · 10/07/2024 12:46

Angela Rayner - she's clearly a clever lady and I think it's great that she's in the role she is. She appeals to the "working populace" and people can relate to her because of her humble background. It's refreshing to see.

Hoppinggreen · 10/07/2024 12:47

Be nice if Lammy the givingawaywomensrightasaurus went pretty sharpish
The rest of them can stay if they do their jobs instead of just lining the pockets of themselves and their mates

While he’s wrong there, he’s not dogmatic. He says he ‘understands’ one can be built by surgical intervention. It’s not a statement of certainty.

samedifferent · 10/07/2024 12:47

Angela Rayner seems to be filling the exactly the same role as John Prescott did and it is a useful one in a Labour government.

CurlewKate · 10/07/2024 12:52

No. But it wasn't me saying he was stupid. He patently obviously isn't. My thought he might well say something impulsive or inappropriate.

That’s gracious of you. They won’t do that.

l voted Labour and I’m totally happy with the cabinet. And the appointment of Jess Phillips. I just wish Emily Thornberry was in there.

Is it also a job requirement for Rayner to cheat on her partner and punch the voters?

The first two sentences had me hooked for a moment...

AdviceNeeded2024 · 10/07/2024 12:53

I think that Keir Starmer will want to keep stability for as long as possible, not the constant switching and infighting of the Conservatives. I’d like to think he is more level headed and that if people were to be removed from their post it would be after careful consideration of their skills and abilities.

I suppose only time will tell though!!

I don’t worship Labour either, didn’t vote for them, but they do somewhat appear to be much ‘calmer’ than the chaos of the last 5 years! Note I did say appear, of course this can all change 😂

Or to cheat on a partner and scam the whole country, like Johnson?

leafybrew · 10/07/2024 12:54

bellinisurge · 10/07/2024 11:15

I think Lammy too. He's thick. You can only hide that for so long

Really?

He has a law degree and a masters in law, and won a scholarship to Peterborough Cathedral school. He's also studied at Harvard. And worked as a lawyer before being in politics.

What evidence (other than your opinion) do you have that he is 'thick'?

FinalCeleryScheme · 10/07/2024 12:52

Well Boris Johnson seemed to think that being a philandering, corrupt, lying, lawbreaker was a requirement of the job - so overall I think we are in a better place.
