My money's on David Lammy by February.

were like dinosaurs, hoarding their rights.

I struggle to understand why he thinks that women don't have the right to hoard their rights?

Would he say this about race based rights, or disability rights or gay rights?

What is the purpose of rights if not to use and protect them?

Why should women be chastised for this?

I think Lammy too. He's thick. You can only hide that for so long

I wouldn't vote Labour while my arse has a crack in it, but I wouldn't call him thick.

He studied law at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London and was called to the bar in 1994. He later studied for a Master of Laws degree at Harvard University, becoming the first Black Briton to study at Harvard Law school.

Why is he ‘thick?’

I know everyone on MN likes to dislike him.

l like him, and Angela Raynor. She’s just what the country needs.

Lammy is black and did not go to private school. Of course some on here assume he is thick.

AzureAnt · 10/07/2024 13:19

Zonder · 10/07/2024 12:45

Correct. Did you study human biology? And countless other subjects so you never make a mistake?

Anyway first to lose their job? Sunak.

I think your missing the point a little. No I didn't study human biology but I do know men can't grow a cervix.
If I didn't know that men can't grow a cervix it wouldn't matter too much because the very big difference between me and Mr Lammy is that I am not a government minister and he is

Hmmmm

Not even a week.
Well obviously not a supporter of the government, so presumably pretty hacked off at the moment to have actual grown ups in charge.

I think charges of 'thick' are hard to comprehend when the losing side appointed Nadine Dorries to culture secretary whilst not actually understanding Channel4 is a public service ... and Theresa Coffey (minister for DWP AND health) didn't know Kigali was the capital of her government's flag-ship Rwandan batshittery...

Now THAT is thick in my book.

I would take a while if I were you. Lie down in a darkened room, breathe deep, think kind thoughts (even if it's going to cost you 20% more) and wait until someone does actually fuck up. Which as human beings they almost certainly will.
However the big difference I expect is that fuck ups will be just that - not opportunities to line there pockets .

While we are remembering the triumphs of the previous government, I think it is important to remember that Dover is not that important, and that misogyny against both men and women is bad.

Yours
D Raab.

It will be Rachel Reeves going first when she starts to realise that you cannot run a country on hot air and fake promises.

David Lammy? The David Lammy who studied at Harvard Law School is thick? Well that’s a new one…

I’m northern. They are both thick.
Angela is only there to placate the looney lefties.

Just reposting above comment. Remember also that the government admitted they had not realised the implications of the Good Friday agreement for Brexit.

He went to a selective cathedral school, not the comp down the road. I think his worse flaws ironically were probably developed during his education.
The school system in the UK gives young men at the top unfounded confidence in their abilities and intelligence.
You can see it on both sides of the house.

No. It's because he thinks men can have a cervix.

Wow! I don't think I even need to say anything back to that. It's not worth talking to a brick wall who can't even fathom that people are entitled to their own opinion.

Melisha · 10/07/2024 13:26

MN never disappoints. The usual classism and racism.
At least we are not getting veiled criticisms of Streeting because he is gay, which we did have before the election.

Nadine was funny, spent all that time we all should have an electric car and then handed hers back after she used it for a holiday and realised how useless they are.

Well the Tories managed it for 14 years.

Biological sex isn't an opinion. It's a scientific fact. If you can't understand that then yes, there is no point in engaging in a discussion.

Yes! You have articulated so well what I have always thought, but not found the right words for! Thank you :)

No. It's because he thinks men can have a cervix.

No, he said he understood trans women might be able to have a cervix after undergoing surgery. The accurate quote is further up the thread.

ElleintheWoods · 10/07/2024 13:31

CelesteCunningham · 10/07/2024 11:24

Lammy was the first Black Briton to attend Harvard Law School, where he did his masters. He's worked in some big US law firms, and taught at the University of London.

What's your criteria for "not thick"?

I always want to ask ‘so you know him personally, do you?’ to someone judging a public figure to be thick or something else.

Fair enough if you’ve had dealings with them and they didn’t seem competent, but most of the time the general public’s judgement seems to be very much ‘just don’t like the look of him’ sort.

I’m not particularly invested in Lammy but nobody makes it this far being ‘thick’, especially without enjoying the family connections of Boris or Sunak. It’s incredibly hard and unlikely

Please we don't want factual accuracy to get in the way of our rants.
That is why I voted for Brexit.

MPs can’t lose their jobs for their campaigner being arrested.

Andrew Rosindell didn’t lose his job for being investigated for sexual assault, just wasn’t allowed to attend parliament. And he has just been re-elected!

Well the Tories managed it for 14 years.

Oh indeed, but she has campaign hard on what a great job they will do and balance the books and already she is backtracking with her new studies into public finances, as was pointed out we ALL have known the UK was still borrowing £150 billion a year and then they all kept promises tax cuts and no rises, how can anyone trust any of them when at minimum they need to stop borrowing.

David Lammy "thick"? I've heard it all now!

Well, he said that he believed that men could grow a cervix...

There's a big difference between the academic-style cleverness required to be a lawyer and the kind of intelligence needed to be a good politician.
