Maybe it’s just the people you know and the weirdness of MN.

No one cares in reality. They care about other female things. Like equality, and equal pay, and safety to walk the streets and decent medical care.

Lots of women I know want women and girls to be safe in changing rooms and public toilets too. Oh and Rape crisis centers and domestic violence shelters. I don’t know many women who would be happy with men like “Katie” Dolotowski (the convicted paedophile who sexually assaulted two little girls in a woman’s toilet in a supermarket) sharing private facilities with them and their daughters.

perhaps that “weird” or unusual but I don’t think so.

samedifferent · 10/07/2024 12:02

David Lammy obviously has academic ability but honestly how smart are you when you think men can grow a cervixes, that is painfully ignorant. Really woeful.

GingerPirate · 10/07/2024 12:02

The elation with Labour Party will soon fade into thin air...

Think Shabana Mahmood will have hard time staying with the state of prison problems currently. I would be glad to see her go.

I would love to see the back of Angela Rayner - but she is so slow, she is unlikely to even realise what's happening when it's already happened.

There are a few not very intelligent folks in the Cabinet, happy only with Ed Miliband and Alan Campbell - they've seen enough to keep the cabinet on straight and narrow.

Hmmmm

Not even a week.
Well obviously not a supporter of the government, so presumably pretty hacked off at the moment to have actual grown ups in charge.

I think charges of 'thick' are hard to comprehend when the losing side appointed Nadine Dorries to culture secretary whilst not actually understanding Channel4 is a public service ... and Theresa Coffey (minister for DWP AND health) didn't know Kigali was the capital of her government's flag-ship Rwandan batshittery...

Now THAT is thick in my book.

I would take a while if I were you. Lie down in a darkened room, breathe deep, think kind thoughts (even if it's going to cost you 20% more) and wait until someone does actually fuck up. Which as human beings they almost certainly will.
However the big difference I expect is that fuck ups will be just that - not opportunities to line there pockets .

If you were on the Rayner thread on Friday you would see that many people said it.

No one said it on this thread but you.

noblegiraffe · 10/07/2024 11:54

Can you beat Michelle Donelan as Ed Sec for 1 day though?

No, to be fair, the universities ministers' tenures have tended to be rather epic in comparison, a whole 3 to 5 months for many.

pilo7 · 10/07/2024 12:04

It's possible to be extremely educated, yet have no common sense.

I didn't say anything. Smile

I have seen some horrific classism and misogyny directed Rayner's way in the past week on here though.

How did those fuck ups you claim (Nadine Dorries and Therese Coffey) allow anyone to “line their pockets”?

im not a Tory but I find this worship of the Labour Party silly. They’re no different and certainly no better.

Also, for the sake of accurate reporting, Lammy never used the word 'grow' when referring to trans women having a cervix. This is his quote, when responding to a question by Nick Ferrari that only women can have a cervix. Not stating an opinion myself, just clarifying the word 'grow' was never used.

"I don't know if it's transphobic, but it it's not, accurate, Nick. I mean, obviously, it's probably the case that only, that trans women don't have ovaries. But a cervix, I understand, is something that you can have, following various procedures and hormone treatment and all the rest of it."

Irregularasclockwork · 10/07/2024 12:06

A friend was at sixth form college with Lammy. She describes him as “thick” and “arrogant” and said loads of others did better than him academically, but he was selected to go to Harvard because of affirmative action.

CurlewKate · 10/07/2024 12:07

@Windchiming "Op. Where was this thread when tories were in power?"

I don't know. But the churn was so dramatic that I suspect nobody would have taken the bets!🤣

It's interesting that 50% of electorate is being referred to here. Statistic published on BBC shows that only 32% voted labour. They've won because other parties performed worse, but doesn't change the fact that it is 32% of electorate, not 50%...

Just being pedantic.

Surely people referring to 50% of the electorate are referring to women?

We can see your posts you know!

Thats terrible if you’ve seen misogyny or classism but equally no one is above criticism especially as a member of our government. And no one criticized Angela Rayner for class or sex on this thread or even brought it up. Except you

Phoebefail · 10/07/2024 12:10

The relationship with the USA is always a test for any Foreign Secretary, and for his team. So we shall see if D Lamy passes the test in due course.
He always talks about his background as if it were unrelenting deprivation. It would be nice of him to acknowledge the time he spent at Peterborough where he (I think) did his A-levels. Was he in the choir there or was that a PR factoid?

(Although I agree with the sentiment.)

He thought Marie Antoinette invented radium. He’s not the sharpest

Did he actually? Or did he just say a surname of a different famous Marie quickly on a celebrity tv quiz?

@User2460177 and you've never made a mistake in your life?
He's a law graduate, not a scientist.

We've all said mortifyingly embarrassing things sometimes, surely? I once wrote about Peeps (the diarist, Pepys) in a university essay. I still cringe at the examiners withering comment. Obviously, I knew how to spell it but I was having a total brain fart. I'd hate for anyone to bring that up as evidence of my lack of brain for all time.

Your post implies the "dinosaurs on the right" are all women and thus 50% of the population (and you know it implies that because you wrote it intentionally to imply that).

Not all women agree with you, far from it.

It seems you have misread my post. But that's okay. For the avoidance of doubt, I DO NOT share Mr Lammy's ideas, or his assertion that people who care about women's health and safety are "dinosaurs on the right".
