And how soon" competition.

My money's on David Lammy by February.

Yes, my daughter's selective school did separate sciences too, so much better. She did do some basic cookery too, which has stood her in good stead, though some parents at the school thought it was a waste of time to learn how to cook at all. My boys went to a comprehensive and actually learned enough cookery to keep themselves alive when they left home.

my very, very big standard comp taught all 3 sciences too. Maybe independents aren’t all that if this thread is to be believed about curriculum.

It’s because Starmer likes puppets who will do what he wants without question. He flattered Anas Sarwar, the leader of Labour in Scotland, by inviting him to London. He’s being feted as if he’s the FM of Scotland, which he is not.

What’s because of that? Not Rayner for a start, she’s in an elected post.
He doesn't anyway. Insisting on discipline isn’t the same as wanting puppets. It just means you keep the debate within cabinet and once a line is agreed you play as a team.

What’s the point of devolution then? Is it completely impotent as a means of government?

That poster was attempting to exonerate the Tory government by blaming the chaos of the last 14 years on devolved governments. It was a painful process convincing them that most funding and its allocation originates in Westminster and there’s no devolved government to blame in England.

Bit of a silly thread so soon after the election, need to wait for the dust to settle. Lammy has unjustifiably had lot of unwarranted stick on the thread. Cast your mind back when Boris was foreign secretary and screwed up the release of the Iranian hostage, I don't see Lammy making a catastrophic gaffe like that.

As for Rayner there's a lot of snobbery and some sexism towards her - really seems to get up the backs of many to see someone like her in a position of power - I think she's great and rooting for her to prove the doubters wrong - she has a challenging position though.

I thought as leader of opposition Starmer made a few unforced errors though in his first week as PM has looked pretty sure footed. No idea on sackings etc for future but I reckon there'll be tensions between treasury and other departments which may lead to resignation down the line

What errors do you think he made? I can only think of one (not contacting Rwanda ahead of cancelling the ‘plan’ - and I can’t find much corroboration that actually happened, just Rory Stewart said so).

Not completely, no. It can use what money it is given for its own priorities but it is dependent on Westminster for the funding. It also helps if the PM engages constructively with the FMs, which Johnson, in particular, totally failed to do.

No, she wasn’t trying to “exonerate” any party or interest - as far as I understand her comments: she was just pointing out that significant national control by parties other than the Conservatives hasn’t been a great success.

Westminster funding matters, of course, but since ex-England UK funding is relatively generous it’s difficult to see what your point can be.

I think Lammy too. He's thick. You can only hide that for so long

He's not thick. He is ultra-left and subscribes to all manner of SJW thinking. So I'd have thought a strange choice for Foreign Sec. We will see.

My point is perfectly clear to anyone who’s not determined not to see it. You probably haven’t seen yesterday’s discussion. It was on a different thread.

SirChenjins · 12/07/2024 16:22

Explain your point Blossom? I'm guessing that I'm that poster, so if you explain your point more clearly I'll do the same and then we'll both understand each other.

Or perhaps they are just not right and it’s nothing to do with being northern or not privately educated?

Or do you actually just think they aren’t posh enough? We need to understand what is meant by “just not right.”

We did it all yesterday. There’s zero point in going through it all again. If you need reminding I’m sure you can find the posts.

Zonder · 12/07/2024 16:26

Did they not think girls might go into medicine or biomedical research?

SirChenjins · 12/07/2024 16:27

Oh I can find the posts I wrote - it's just that you seem unclear so I was going to explain it to you another way.

SirChenjins · 12/07/2024 16:30

Actually, I'll just repeat what @FinalCeleryScheme said as it summarises waht I said perfectly - "No, she wasn’t trying to “exonerate” any party or interest - as far as I understand her comments: she was just pointing out that significant national control by parties other than the Conservatives hasn’t been a great success"

Don’t try to patronise me. You lost the argument completely yesterday because your logic is flawed.

No-one is attempting to patronise you Blossom, don't be silly. Hopefully @FinalCeleryScheme's summary of my posts clarifies things now?

We rehearsed that very silly argument when that poster made it yesterday. Interesting they’re still using it despite having it comprehensively demolished once.

But Jeremy Corbyn.
