Roy Chubby Brown ( if anyone is old enough to know who he is ….)
This was in 1995 and I only just about knew who he was.
on a weekend in Blackpool during a heatwave - I suggested to my husband that we could go and see a show while we were there, having seen a billboard for Joseph starting Aled Jones. He came back with “the last 2 tickets” for RCB.
The theatre was like a shed, it was boiling, the hecklers were non stop and I couldn’t understand a word he said.
I may still have PTSD …….

Lots. I used to work in a comedy club. Loads of big names did shows there, as well as jobbing comics who worked the circuit. Some who were unknown back when I worked on the scene are famous now.

I loved that job.

I used to do the tickets in a Leicester Square comedy club at weekends on top of my 9-5. God knows how I had the energy for that in my twenties. I saw and heard a LOT.

Splcam · 08/07/2024 17:06

Stewart Lee (a few times)
Lee and Herring
Peter Kay
Dave Spikey
Justin Moorhouse
Ben Elton
Jeremy Hardy
John Hegley
Mark Thomas
Marc Steele
Alexei Sayle
Jo Brand
Dara Ó Briain
Newman and Baddiel
John Sessions

And many others whose names I forget from a youth spent in Glee clubs and other comedy venues.

Had tickets but didn't go to Dave Gorman and Simon Amstell gigs (had to do work stuff). Regret I never saw Victoria Wood or Sean Locke. If I could have any tickets for any comic right this minute it would be Bill Bailey. I also saw Stewart Lee last year and he wasn't shit!

Mrsjayy · 08/07/2024 17:06

Oh I saw Little and Large in Blackpool in the dark ages when I was a kid, can't remember them being particularly funny.

Also the ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, not sure he counts but he was funny!

After Jeff, Ed Byrne and Zoe Lyons were definitely the best. I spent the entirety of Zoë's set holding my abdomen together - note to self, do not go see a comedian 9 days after major abdominal surgery 😂

GingerPirate · 08/07/2024 17:25

Just two - my parents.
Otherwise, I'm not into "stand up comedy".
