The woman from Peter Kay’s Christmas song’s video, in the wheelchair. Not the one he did Car share with, the other one.

I’ve also seen a million lesser known comedians at comedy nights, a couple who I’ve seen as support acts who have gone on to be quite successful but I’ve forgotten their names, and I went to the C4 Stand Up to Cancer in 2010 and 2011 (once hosted by Alan Carr and once by (I think) Dermot o’Leary so saw lots of famous comedians there, but they only had five minutes or so each, so not really a full set.

HiDaisy · 08/07/2024 19:06

Romesh- just amazing

BestIsWest · 08/07/2024 19:07

Lots over the years.

Top 3 favourites were

Hale and Pace (back in the 80s, laughed so much I was in physical pain)
Rhod Gilbert
Joe Lycett (absolutely lovely show and the first time he’d done an arena show).

Biggest disappointment was Billy Connolly. I think he possibly wasn’t well though.

Rowan Atkinson with Angus Deyton
Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones
French and Saunders
Victoria Wood
Peter Kay
Dave Gorman
Whose line is it anyway (Tony Slattery and Josie Lawrence and I can’t remember who else)
Flo and Joan

AnImaginaryCat · 08/07/2024 19:12

Sean Hughes twice (good first time - moody the second). Then at my student union, Craig Charles (he got booed off stage). All in the 90s - overall wasn't great and made for bad marketing as i was never interested in seeing a famous comedian after them!

Has nobody seen Ken Dodd? That was a surreal experience! I hated him on TV but his live show was mesmerising.

I lasted 40 minutes of Ken Dodd. Left about 40 minutes in after a series of off colour anecdotes about "dolly birds" 🤮 I was back at the same theatre the following week for another act and apparently he had to be dragged off the stage at midnight. I feel I had a lucky escape although friends who saw him a few years previously said he was amazing.

I have seen
Peter Kay
Billy Connolly
David Baddiel
Jason Manford (brilliant)
Dara O'Briain
John Bishop
Jasper Carrot
Tom O'Connor
Tom Allen
Eddie Izzard
Harry Hill
Nish Kumar
Ben Elton
Lenny Henry

Jackreacherstrousers · 08/07/2024 19:17

Jack Dee (okay)
Alan Davis(very good)
Russell Howard (very good)
Jason Manford (very good)

DH saw Billy Connolly - when he was in the Humblebums and DH was waiting for the band to start and couldnt understand why Billy Connolly was talking for so long and everyone was laughing, DH wasnt even listening in the beginning.

he went to see him again and unfortunately he was heckled and so walked off!

Edited

We saw his documentary when he went to Ireland in the 70s in the cinema recently, he really didn't like the heckling his ego was quite fragile I think he learned to take it over the years and grew a thicker skin.

StopInhalingRevels · 08/07/2024 19:36

Eddie Izzard. In his hey day. Three times. Absolutely different league of intelligence and observational comedy. Watch his DVDs from back then, they are outstanding.

Makes me so sad now. He was genius.

Jimmy Carr... He was ok. A bit too much trying to be crude for crudeness sake and it was overpowering and just got a bit repetitive and crass. When he wasn't trying to shock for effect, he was quite funny.

Joe Lycett. Twice. Really nice, happy, silly shows. A bit of intelligent humour, but left feeling good vibes and would recommend.

Simon Brodkin. Saw online clips (of him, not when he was that buffoon Lee Nelson character) and those four or five online clips are his only good jokes. He rates himself massively and whilst he tries to sell it as self deprecated irony, he truly does think he's the dogs danglies and it is so apparent it makes you borderline dislike him by the time the act is finished.

itsjustGin · 08/07/2024 19:39

Was disappointed with Michael McIntyre.

Seen John Bishop twice and honestly the first time i nearly wet myself.
The second time i couldnt breathe enough for laughing.

Love Ray Bradshaw!!

I'm so jealous you got to see Victoria Wood live 😭😭😭

Tim minchin or whatever he’s called. It’s a bit odd

SpeedyMrsToad · 08/07/2024 19:49

And had Greg Davies as a client. Which was hilarrrrrrrious.

obviously not a show but several 1;1 meetings. I used to leave work with an aching body from laughing so much!

HairyToity · 08/07/2024 19:53

Reginald D Hunter and Shappi Khorsandi. Booked to see Simon Brodkin in September.

HairyToity · 08/07/2024 19:54

Oh yes and Russell Kane.

XenoBitch · 08/07/2024 20:00

Saw Rik Mayall and Ade Edmundson as a teen (Bottom Live).
Rhod Gilbert
Russell Howard
Mark Steel
Alisdair Beckett-King
Gary Delaney (my favourite!)
Nabil Abdulrashid
Adam Kay
Mark Simmons

Doesn't seem a lot but most were in the past year. Met a DP who loves stand up, and likes to see the smaller names that have appeared on Mock the Week etc.

Getting tickets to see Andy Parsons next.

QAOPspaceman · 08/07/2024 20:02

Also, what comedians have you seen die (metaphorically)?
I don't think I've seen a well-known comedian completely bomb, but I did see Tim Vine play to 7 people in a room that could have seated 100 if the venue had sold it properly, but somehow go down a storm

SkalengeckOrSiegbarste · 08/07/2024 20:03

Andy Parsons, Peter Kay, Sarah Millican, Dapper Laughs, Jimmy Carr, a few less famous ones. I'm most excited to see Greg Davies next year, have been wanting to for so long!
