Obviously the Tories have decided the election wasn’t the end and we need another series.

In better news:

Labour government to put failing water companies in “special measures” to make them clean up Britain’s waterways with new legislation expected by industry - banning bonuses for worst polluters - potential criminal charges for repeat offenders - tougher monitoring of sewage outflows

Fantastic! Lots of comments below that about renationalisation.

I haven't seen both "Outrage at man holding wife's hand" threads but I've been having fun on one of them (and seen some of the rest of you there too). Smile

The double standards and cognitive dissonance is strong there Confused

But seriously though, it's sad that our leaders seem, by some, to be expected to do their (24hr 7/7 days) job unsupported and/or aren't allowed public displays of attention or having a partner with them when they're away on official business is begrudged - even when it's expected that partners (of both sexes Wink) attend Sad

Rishibyebye · 10/07/2024 20:33

Just had a quick dip into twitter & I see mud slinging tweets from the conservatives at labour - they really do need to take a long hard look at themselves.

at least Rishi’s speech was respectful and dignified.

That's a Cat With Purpose. Great photos.

They need to stop dividends being paid if services are not kept to standard.
(I have no idea how they'd frame that in legislation!)
But it's a decent start - amazing those standards weren't in place already really.

Hell hath no fury like a Tory Party scorned. 😀

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/07/2024 20:45

Should bring back actual duels maybe. Is that too far back even for Rees-Mogg?

Tbh, now they aren’t in charge and taking the rest of the country with them, the death antics of the Tory party can just be funny rather than with added depression.

It's a shame that they can't claw back the dividends that they've already paid out Shockunjustifiably Angry

I’d love it if they could find a way to do it.

Watching Sewing Bee it strikes me that Esme and Diane Abbott have the same quake in their voice. I think it's an ageing thing , just?

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/07/2024 21:21

It could be but she’s the same age as my parents and I don’t know that any of them or their friends have that sort of tremor or voice issue.

She looked a lot frailer than most of the 70 year olds I know. So much so that I was surprised at her age when I googled it just now.

Piggywaspushed · 10/07/2024 21:23

Oh yes, I thought she was older.

My mum's voice has lost its strength.

Piggywaspushed · 10/07/2024 21:26

Have just , however, discovered Esme is from my town. So I can add her to Tom Grennan and Ronnie Barker. And Carol Vorderman who is obviously a legend. Even though she moved away.

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/07/2024 21:35

I’m not sure the 70 year olds I know are an entirely representative group. They are all quite physically active. More than people much younger in many cases.

Now that there is a magnificent cat!

And I am loving Jenny! Can she come to PMQ's?

NoDishiForRishi · 10/07/2024 22:01

Oh look at her being so good in the commons! Oh I'd get nothing done if I was an MP and there was a dog present 😂😂

My dad died suddenly and unexpectedly last year aged 86 Sad

He was still active: was not long back from South Africa, gardening, mowed the field going down to the loch on his sit-on mower 5 days before he died Shock He had been cycling in India at 69 with my mum when she had the accident that ultimately killed her (the head injury brought on a dementia). He continued to cycle until his early 80s (then got spinal stenosis). At 75, he did the Pedal for Scotland (Glasgow to Edinburgh) with ds and me. Smile Bike

Dh and I hope to be as active as they were (and my dad continued to be) Smile. Dh's new hip should help Wink (We're 63 and 65 now).

But maybe we have a rose tinted view of what we'll be able to do Grin

I like this picture because you can see my MP who's not my MP (but I pretend he is because what's half a mile between friends?) in the background.

So sorry to hear about your Dad @prettybird.

Cheguevarahamster · 10/07/2024 22:12

Keir is going to Berlin Sunday.

Just imagine if they win 😁. Fantastic photo ops for him. And he's an actual football fan. ⚽
