Lovely. A new era, a new thread title. Here is a Tory, pictured at 10pm on election night

Just checking in.

Keir is doing a press conference. Nice to see no slogans on the lectern.

Rishibyebye · 06/07/2024 13:19

Will a shadow cabinet be appointed or will that come after the leadership election?

Piggywaspushed · 06/07/2024 13:28

Thank you!

Nice to bring my proper user name back out of the cupboard.

cakeorwine · 06/07/2024 13:30

It's a good press conference.

A very different tone to the ones we've had from previous Prime Ministers.

IClaudine · 06/07/2024 13:34

Well, as someone who is ambivalent about Starmer, I think he did a really good job at that presser. 👏

TimeForRishiByeByes · 06/07/2024 14:00

Are my ears deceiving me?
This is a prime minister.... Answering questions?!
Pinches my own arm

newnamethanks · 06/07/2024 14:02

New thread, new tax! Must be a Labour government. Thanks for new thread, excellent decisions and speech by KS so am off to scrape together my tax payment, he's going to be worth it, like you lot are. Thanks for keeping me going through the Awful Years.

CassieMaddox · 06/07/2024 14:02

Love the press conference. No question who is in charge. Really like his approach to the first ministers and mayor's too.

prettybird · 06/07/2024 14:04

In other good news, because Reform only got 5 seats, they’re still subject to the ceiling amount of short money at Westminster (£354,255). Otherwise, they could have got a shed load of money due to all the votes they got across the constituencies - £42.82 for every 200 votes gained by the party (I've not done the sums to see how much that could have been) Shock

I still can't quite believe the Awful Years are over @newnamethanks

Igotjelly · 06/07/2024 14:08

🤞🙏 hoping for better times to come!

Just 4% of Keir Starmer's Cabinet went to private school compared to 63% in Rishi Sunak's government. 93% were educated at a comprehensive school.

It's nice to see Mays cabinet was quite equally low and common with all other previous Labour PMs.

Starmers is particularly low. But I imagine with wanting to VAT indie schools he probably had to make some point about state educated people!

Where was it? I wouldn't mind catching up if it's somewhere I can watch it.

Thank you for the new thread. Cat tax, not my cat but they came to visit this week, possibly my new neighbour.

They said over 4 million votes, so

4,000000÷200 × 42.82= £856,400

If my maths is correct. *

  • I definitely have covid so my brain isn't working properly, please correct if wrong.

Is anyone still getting used to reading "Prime Minister Keir Starmer". It makes my heart sing!

Spandauer · 06/07/2024 14:30

Thanks for the new 'new' thread.

"I'm here for the sunlit uplands!"
or
"Yes, this is where the tories are buried."

@Igotjelly It really is. Scraping the bottom of the barrell and coming up with muck.

Igotjelly · 06/07/2024 14:28

If every whinging Tory fan followed this advice, the country would be a much nicer place. (the ones who can accept defeat are not included in this statement).

CheshireCat1 · 06/07/2024 14:36

It’s great having a feeling of hope again after all these years of absolute carnage.

Thanks. I knew someone on TV had said on Thursday night about 6 being a magic number, but then did not read far enough to find it.

newnamethanks · 06/07/2024 14:42

It's bound to be on replay on the Web or TV cake. It was very encouraging. Meanwhile, here's some tax. Or not. Upload won't co operate. Have to owe till later.

Igotjelly · 06/07/2024 14:28

Has it escaped the Mail's knowledge that three of the four countries in its picture not subscribing to read the whole article Hmm - France, Italy and Sweden - are in the EU and that the Mail's support for a hard Brexit means that UK citizens those that couldn't blag an extra EU passport can't just up sticks and go there Confused

And that Australia too has strict immigration rules? Confused

Haven't ventured into one of these threads before, so I assume I have to pay more tax?

Very, very happy with the results. Better than I dared dream/hope for.
