How do Rishi and Keir manage to move house so quickly?

Did Rishi move his stuff out of number 10 before election day or did he do it today? I am moving house at the moment and I can’t imagine how they do it so quickly? I read Michelle Obama’s book and in America there is a long time between the election and the new president talking over and that gives them time to plan the move but it still went pretty quick.

The vans will appear in next few days. PM does not live there full-time anyway.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/07/2024 20:19

I’m sure Rishi and family already started packing

PaminaMozart · 05/07/2024 20:19

They will have known about this for a while, so will have prepared.

They don't do a complete move as they are keeping their usual residences.

There are staff. Lots of staff.

Even so, I imagine it'll be a bit chaotic for a couple of weeks.

MsMajeika · 05/07/2024 20:22

One of my friends once paid for a moving service in which they pack up your things for you, move them and then unpack in your new place (with some instruction, of course). I imagine they do something similar. It sounds like bliss!

Summermightbegreat · 05/07/2024 20:22

I imagine there's loads of staff helping with the packing and there's probably fixed furniture like tables and book cases maybe? Although would be interesting to see behind the scenes.

They don't live there full time.
Rishi lives in Northallerton.. a gorgeous house.
Plus they don't take the furniture.. just personal belongins and will have people to do it for them.

You're correct, in fact the worse thing was my suit. We nearly forgot that it was still hanging in the airing cupboard!

What a larf!

I imagine they have people to do it for them! When they popped off to the palace, the lovely Akshata didn't look like a woman who had spent the day chucking pots and pans into boxes and cleaning skirting boards. I don't know if the family even lived above the shop. It's not compulsory, is it?

mitogoshi · 05/07/2024 20:28

Vans pulled up at 7am this morning! Packers will pack, they just pack personal bits but I suspect very little is there

Willmafrockfit · 05/07/2024 20:28

they are just offices surely?

Willmafrockfit · 05/07/2024 20:29

why did Boris get such expensive wallpaper though?

SisterMichael · 05/07/2024 20:29

I read an article with the man from the company who did it for Blair. He said if you know it’s coming you start moving stuff out gradually and discreetly so it’s not all done at once.

Kinshipug · 05/07/2024 20:30

They pay people to do it for them. Obviously.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 05/07/2024 20:31

Military family here. My husband has lived in almost as many houses as he is years old, and can do a full house pack (3 bed semi) in less than a day.

He’s an unusual case though 🤣

but it is possible!

Willmafrockfit · 05/07/2024 20:28

No they are flats well apartments that they do live in.

I don't think Rishis family lived there full time his kids won't be in a London school.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/07/2024 20:32

Rishi can afford to chuck it all in a skip and boy everything new.

He won't be doing any packing himself

DogInATent · 05/07/2024 20:32

Willmafrockfit · 05/07/2024 20:28

There's a small flat at the top.

TeaandHobnobs · 05/07/2024 20:34

I believe his wife tended to stay in another house they owned in London, so I suspect Rishi only stayed over at No 10 where necessary, and it wasn’t really “home”. The older daughter is at boarding school anyway - I think the younger might be in her final year at a London prep, but I suspect she lives in the other house with her mum.

AmelieTaylor · 05/07/2024 20:34

The staff at No10 have had plenty of practice these past few years. It's a residence, but not their family home with years of sentimental or stored staff.

Mrsjayy · 05/07/2024 20:35

One of the Pms and Family lived next door might have been the Camerons.

BigDahliaFan · 05/07/2024 20:35

I think the whole living above the shop thing ought to stop. They all whinge about how small it is too…

Oh didn't think they lived in London but Mrs Rishi is so rich she can.have houses anywhere she wants 😃

Brandonsflowers · 05/07/2024 20:39

Well we all knew Sunak was getting booted out regardless. So he's probably been packing up since he called the election!

These people are all rich enough to have more houses than I've had hot dinners. They're used to fliting between home.

I will be booking that service when I buy my lottery win house. I would pack a personal bag and that's it.

If you imagine rishi has been asking for boxes in Facebook then you're wrong.

Some of the stuff we see on the day a new PM takes office is just for show. It’s put on for the cameras. The reality is that senior politicians have lives & families & kids in school like everyone else so that has to be taken into account in their living arrangements.

My understanding is that Skunak’s family didn’t live in Downing st. But he did spend some weeknights there. They are so rich that they own several homes, including one in London where they actually live & a massive mansion in his constituency in North Yorkshire.

The Starmers’ family home is in Kentish Town, a couple of miles from Downing st. I have read that Victoria & their teenagers aren’t keen on moving into Downing st, so maybe they will remain at home. Money also plays a part, of course. Given that they are nowhere near as rich as the Sunaks, the benefits of moving into Downing st & renting out their house for £ thousands a month might be irresistible. I believe that’s what the Blairs did.
