Understanding Jay Slater case

Can someone explain what is known about this.
My brief understanding (and I'm possibly wrong) is that he had a scuffle and stole a Rolex outside the party he attended. Then went back to an Airbnb with two British guys he didn't know. Stayed there a couple of hours then attempted to walk back to his accommodation. Had a couple of phone calls with friends that give no particular info. The British guys are not involved (seems odd that he was with them). And JS is still missing or possibly hiding/kidnapped. Who has the Rolex?
It all sounds very convoluted and a clear picture would obviously help people understand.

Is there anyone who doesn’t already know that the resort, bar, club and festival scenes on party islands are awash with recreational drugs and some unsavoury characters?

Edited

Clearly.
As somone said they never realised tenerife had a dark side.
Everywhere has a dark side.

You’d be surprised at how naive and sheltered some people are.

Hell, even a copper on here didn’t know ‘rolex’ is a type of eccy.

Who is the psychic who found Nicola Bulley? Can he be asked to help find Jay?

Christ.

The press reports of the Tom Hilton case from 2023 make interesting reading.

Yes I've read them. Jay Slater was about 16 at the time, got lesser charges than some of the others because he was more of a background figure rather than an active participant.
Yes they smirked and laughed during the court proceedings but how else do you expect nervous 16 year old boys who want to appear tough, to behave?
He could have changed significantly now or could change in the future. He's still just a kid.
If anyone thinks he deserves to die a very slow and frightening death aged 19 be cause of "Karma" - well they're not the sort of people I'd want to know.

A hell hole?! Seriously, it's not Haiti. Every country has organised crime and a dark side but it doesn't really make it a hellhole does it?!

Handbag snatching! My goodness, I'd never have DREAMED!

Eat your lunch everyone.

I think he's been fed to the fishes by whoever he pissed off, personally. It sounds like he thought he was a bit of a hard man, especially after basically getting away with the machete attack, and messed with the wrong people. I don't think he'll be found. Could be wrong, of course, as it also makes sense that he tried to walk through rough terrain while high/on a massive comedown and fell, couldn't get up, and that was that.

Also, surely the drugs are being smuggled from South America though the Canaries and onto Europe? Not the USA?

Sugartreemumma · 01/07/2024 13:44

His poor family 😔

The only thing we actually know is that he headed off into the mountains alone (witnesses) and was probably in a bit of a state. So it is highly highly likely that he is indeed on those mountains.
And there are no vultures in Tenerife, stop talking nonsense.

I thought I saw something like a scavenger there in March this year.

Wikipedia suggests the Egyptian Vulture is present

I think if it's foul play body would potentially be in the sea.

It's all very odd.

Exactly. Even the victim of the machete attack has made a statement that people should stop the gossip and badmouthing because it's disrespectful to Jay's family. So I suggest people listen to and respect that.

Some friends and family members of mine have done some pretty awful or reckless things. Doesn't mean I mourn them any less.

I'm so sorry for his poor mum.

Just maybe karma caught up with him .

This!

gojumpjump · 01/07/2024 14:08

It's an odd one. Did anything come from the CCTV footage that was potentially him 12 hours after he was last seen?

oakleaffy · 01/07/2024 14:09

BMW6 · 01/07/2024 11:40

I wonder what the wildlife is there, how quickly his remains would have been consumed if he died trying to walk back without water, as is the most likely scenario.

Bones would very likely to have remained
As with the tragic case of Elaine O Hara in Eire.
In that case there were so many “ Coincidences “ as to enable Elaine’s body to be found months later.

Her killer thought he had literally got away with Murder.

You’d be surprised at how naive and sheltered some people are.

Hell, even a copper on here didn’t know ‘rolex’ is a type of eccy.

You’re trolling / derailing the thread. The Daily Mail story clearly refers to a Rolex WATCH having been stolen from an Eastern European man the night before Jay went missing. Rolex WATCHES are often stolen and no doubt all kinds of trouble can happen afterwards. Whether that’s coming from the victim or the thieves.

Katbum · 01/07/2024 14:17

This is someone’s child who has probably sadly died after attempting a long walk in harsh terrain in the heat with no water. Sad. But the speculation about his character is unnecessary.

Ihateboris · 01/07/2024 13:59

I think if that’s your only contribution to the discussion, it’s probably best to say nothing at all.

Trolling and derailing 😂😂

I’m sorry but Daily Mail journalists are bigger trolls than anyone on Mumsnet.

Gymmum82 · 01/07/2024 14:26

I remember in the Nicola Bulley case there was loads of conspiracy theories about where she was and what had happened even though the most obvious case was she’d fallen in to the river and drowned, and in the end that was exactly what had happened.

Jay called his friends, had he been kidnapped he wouldn’t have been able to do that. Unless the kidnappers just happened to come across him in the mountains with no water and a dead phone battery and took him, but realistically he probably just got lost and perished due to the drugs/dehydration/heat exhaustion etc.

There was that case in America of the lady who went missing some years ago on the Appalachian trail, despite extensive searches it took 2 years for her body to be discovered and she was only just off the trail but was so lost she couldn’t find her way back. Even the man who found her said you couldn’t see her tent (where the body was found) unless you were standing right next to it. In that kind of terrain he could have become easily lost and not able to be seen even if the body was right there.
I imagine he will be found in some weeks/months/years even

@SabrinaThwaite

So glad my own DC have no interest in this kind of stuff!

Unfortunately we can't always know 100% what our teens are up too.?
