Understanding Jay Slater case

Can someone explain what is known about this.
My brief understanding (and I'm possibly wrong) is that he had a scuffle and stole a Rolex outside the party he attended. Then went back to an Airbnb with two British guys he didn't know. Stayed there a couple of hours then attempted to walk back to his accommodation. Had a couple of phone calls with friends that give no particular info. The British guys are not involved (seems odd that he was with them). And JS is still missing or possibly hiding/kidnapped. Who has the Rolex?
It all sounds very convoluted and a clear picture would obviously help people understand.

@Katiesaidthat I worked in Tenerife for 5 years all the police over there are dodgy!
Not bull but facts!

I don't think he's in the mountains. If he had fallen and died the vultures would have been all over him and any search party would have seen an influx of vultures in one spot

The only thing we actually know is that he headed off into the mountains alone (witnesses) and was probably in a bit of a state. So it is highly highly likely that he is indeed on those mountains.
And there are no vultures in Tenerife, stop talking nonsense.

Waffle78 · 01/07/2024 12:15

Non of us will know until his body is found or he turns up which is highly unlikely. Most of us would probably start walking rather than wait over 2 hour's for a bus. Think he was told there was a bus at 8. But the lady at the cafe said 10. Looks like he's tried to take a short cut and got lost. What I can't understand is why he never got some water from the cafe.

@Drivingmissmarigold you may want to Google that.

fedupdontknowwheretoputmyself · 01/07/2024 12:26

If someone falls into a ravine they'll never be found.

Rolex made a model with a red and black bezel nicknamed ‘the Coke’ so that’s probably how the slang name came about.

That’s probably true but a highly popular ecstasy pill which has the Rolex stamp on is a mainstream favourite in the raving world at the moment, which would make sense as to Jay being at a rave.

Most people who take coke wouldn’t call coke “Rolex”, there’s plenty of other mainstream slang words for coke than that.

Not in Tenerife though - they’re in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

blacksocks33 · 01/07/2024 12:28

It came up in my news highlights yesterday that they had called the search off whilst they were waiting for further information. So not sure if this suggests there's been some progress?

It's sad for all those involved. The tik-tok detective hype is extremely dangerous and misleading, particularly to the family members. Something needs to be done about thsi moving forward.

Interesting - every day’s a school day.

So glad my own DC have no interest in this kind of stuff!

Lostinbrum · 01/07/2024 12:29

I don't believe on word of his so called mate who said he called her and was lost wih low battery etc. She knows what went down and is covering her own back. Very shady people involved

Dragontale · 01/07/2024 12:30

@Cerealkiller4U or anyone who has experience: how about the sniffer dogs? They could pick up a scent surely? They range between 0.5 and 12 miles…

Mirabai · 01/07/2024 12:33

I imagine he got lost on the mountain just as it appears he did.

Not many 30-40 year old blokes would take a random teenage boy back to theirs nor would a teen want to go when it was so far. I assumed he was buying drugs. He may have taken more in the morning and got disoriented.

LakeTiticaca · 01/07/2024 12:39

Mark Williams Thomas proclaimed he would find him within 3 days

But didn't he proclaim the same about Madelejne McCann and Nicola Bulley?

Hardly a great success rate!!

Fieldsofgold1 · 01/07/2024 12:40

Who is the psychic who found Nicola Bulley? Can he be asked to help find Jay?

You don’t need to understand what happened. Unless you are his family it’s got nothing to do with you.

What rubbish.
If it is drugs related and scumbags are frequenting bars in resorts in tenerife then everyone should know.
If he got shitfaced and walked off and died, then its also a stark warning.
Honest to god the fake outrage is rediculous.
Its everyones business what happened.

Erdinger · 01/07/2024 12:45

Just maybe karma caught up with him .

Eastie77Returns · 01/07/2024 12:49

It was only a matter of time before people started blaming the “corrupt forrin police”. Everytime tragedy befalls a Brit abroad - often due to their own stupidity - people start rounding on the inept, clueless local police. As obviously non English police forces are shit and our police officers are amazing (when they are not out kidnapping and murdering young women).

Everyone speculating on why the search was called off might want to remember that the experienced local officers on the ground in Tenerife just might have information we are not privy to. Perhaps indicating he hasn’t fallen into a ravine etc and something entirely different has happened? We have no idea.

And no, we are not all entitled to know what happened although if I had donated some of the £43k to his Gofundme I might be curious.

The press reports of the Tom Hilton case from 2023 make interesting reading.

Is there anyone who doesn’t already know that the resort, bar, club and festival scenes on party islands are awash with recreational drugs and some unsavoury characters?

Yes, and they have been discussed widely , including the thread on here that got deleted as it descended into "He deserved it, karma, can't feel sorry for him"

NoNameNonsense · 01/07/2024 13:11

I reckon it’s organised crime related, and the Spanish police are purposefully not being that helpful. There are a lot of things that don’t add up. As soon as it made media, whatever crime syndicate probably made sure he could never be found.
Very sad as his family unlikely to ever get answers.
