Unpopular opinion

I'll go first.

You shouldn't have a dog or a baby (or anything else noisy) unless you live in a fully detached property.

This never ends well.

I'd call that stupid, rather than unpopular, to be honest OP.

Because I should be aware that most people are anti-social and selfish? And choose to make their neighbours' lives a living hell?

No, because it's a stupid opinion.

@NotADailyMailJournalist

You seriously think only people in detached houses can have children? 🤣

TootGoesTheOwl · 20/06/2024 18:57

Ooooh I've had dogs and babies, both in terraced housing. Shoot me now🤷‍♀️

They CAN have children but they SHOULD NOT.

Are you bored by any chance?

AppropriateAdult · 20/06/2024 18:59

Well, it'd certainly be a quick way to depopulate the earth, if that's what you're looking for...

I'm an antinatalist so yes, ideally.

More suicidal at this point tbh. 😂

According to a quick Google, around 23% of houses in the UK are detached. Detached houses are generally more expensive than semi detached, therefore likely to be harder financially for younger (childbearing age) people to own. To sustain long term generational replacement of the population, the birth rate needs to be 2.1 children per woman. You're certainly putting a lot of pressure on those women if you're narrowing it down to only those in detached houses 😅

NC2024xx · 20/06/2024 19:05

Of the millions of people who live next door to people with babies and/or dogs, in a terraced or semi detached house, I doubt there are that many who feel like their lives are a living hell...

Fizzadora · 20/06/2024 19:11

Doesn't make any difference. Been sat in my garden this afternoon listening to Lila's mum screaming at her again which set off next door but three's massive dogs who barked for nearly half an hour and everyone else's nearby joined in, then next door but two the other way started revving up his Harley, then next door came out to finish his strimming then it was 3 o'clock and the school came out. Added to which DH wouldn't shut up about negative shite he'd read online today.

It's really quiet now though. All I can here is the birds, some very distant voices and the odd car going past which considering we are on a bus route is pretty impressive.

So unless your detached house is in the middle of knowhere......but then you get tractors.

NotADailyMailJournalist · 20/06/2024 19:14

@Fizzadora thanks, I feel your pain.

Trouble is, there's no escaping it at night when I'm trying to sleep and downstairs' baby and dog set one another off. I mean dogs and babies just don't mix, aside from the noise element. Do these morons not read the news about what happens when babies and dogs are put together?!

I 100% understand why they use (high-pitched) noise and sleep deprivation as torture in war.

Haha can tell you don’t live in London! There isn’t a detached house anywhere near us. The only ones I can think of are either prep schools or flats. A small terrace costs 7 figures here so everyone is living here by choice and presumably ok with a bit of noise from the neighbours 🤷‍♀️

Applepencilplant · 20/06/2024 19:19

Thanks op. I needed a laugh today.
Although I really should only laugh if I live in a fully detached property.

Needmorelego · 20/06/2024 19:19

I prefer the sound of children and the odd dog woof than adults and their tv/music/car reving/motorbikes/drunken arguments/diy......

annahay · 20/06/2024 19:20

I apologised to my next door neighbour after a particularly rough night with the baby and they said they didn't hear her so not to worry. And the dog only barks when their dog barks 🤷🏻‍♀️

NotADailyMailJournalist · 20/06/2024 19:22

@InTheRainOnATrain Fine, if you're all in the same boat noise-terrorising one another. But I'm quiet as anything (and so is everyone else in this block - until recently it was mostly old people who'd lived here since the 50s)

I'm almost tempted to have a baby and a dog myself just to spite those cunts downstairs - I'm 40, I could probably just about manage it. I've certainly taken up listening to loud music and putting the speakers directly on my (hard wood) floors. Probably makes the baby cry more but at least I can't hear it. Plus banging nails into a random bit of wood I'm keeping on said floor specially for the purpose. Hopefully they will get the message and move on to a proper house.

I normally like animals but I have fantasies about kidnapping that one, taking out its microchip and dumping it hundreds of miles away.

People don't have to live next door to you to make life a living hell.
This week I'm getting tormented by the neighbourhood children and actually the 2 who live next door to me aren't even joining in. Although it is a gang of their friends.
If you are talking about unpopular opinions I just wish some parents were more aware about how dreadfully their children behaved when they " went out to play". I'm talking about primary school children in the main though a couple of older children were involved the other night.
I'd love to live in a detached house with 10 foot high walls and a security gate.

IntelligentInputDarling · 20/06/2024 19:24

Can I have a dog or a baby if I live in a semi @NotADailyMailJournalist ?

I promise I’ll not have both! 😅
