I'll go first.

You shouldn't have a dog or a baby (or anything else noisy) unless you live in a fully detached property.

@CCmumsnet lol! Thanks for the laugh! As I explained upthread, there IS no help for the human condition! Anyway, hope it helps someone else and I appreciate your heart is in the right place. Or at least you are PR-conscious!

It's a question that's been asked literally thousands of times before on MN so do forgive my yawning. There are a million things to discuss in life (and on MN) except your darling precious offspring. Indeed, there's a specific board for religion and philosophy where intelligent discussion about things which are actually important take place.

Thank you. You could have said that the first time, there's really never any need for rudeness.

NotADailyMailJournalist · 20/06/2024 21:13

BTW, I am VERY pro-neutering cats, to whoever mentioned that.

I think breeding kittens (intentionally or recklessly) is highly irresponsible. And selfish, given how many are in rescues.

I merely give homes to the cats who are already here.

"Adopt, don't shop" is literally the one thing upon which Meghan Markle and I agree.

Not really up to you what people discuss though. 🙄

I am sure you have made Meghan's day.

I didn't really set up a scenario, it was just a straight choice.

But yeah, you could get interesting debates with carefully chosen scenarios, like in the trolley problem - difference between passive and active situations.

  1. my cat and your child are drowning, you can only reach one, which one do you save?
  2. my cat is about to be shot, can I grab your child to use as a shield?

1/ Legal in the UK (not in some other countries).
2/ is illegal !

As long as you are happy not being saved by a similar person prioritising their stick insect.

RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue · 20/06/2024 21:16

I wonder if 'Amborella Distona' has any cats - or children? And I wonder if they live in a semi-detached house, or an apartment (with cats!)

.

Stick Insect! 😂

Penfeatherington · 20/06/2024 21:18

Stick insects are the only acceptable pet for those in anything other than a detached house.

No, I'm in favour of people not being selfish arseholes in the first place and not inflicting their mistakes or thoughtlessness on other people. Especially when they are allegedly a grown up and not some feckless teenager shagging behind the bike sheds.

Too late really once someone is pregnant. So either you ban sex before owning a detached house or you force abortions on those who do end up pregnant before owning a detached house.

Youdontevengohere · 20/06/2024 21:20

I’d definitely save my stick insect over OP and her cat.

Don't forget you suggested adoption in an earlier post. That would work. Let the poor child go to a more successful family with a proper house. Maybe its new parents (ideally married too) will also be intelligent enough to work out how to successfully prevent a pregnancy (btw - it's always use TWO forms of contraception). There are no excuses for accidents these days if you are a reasonably intelligent and responsible person.

So you aren’t successful with a proper house?

@InTheRainOnATrain Fine, if you're all in the same boat noise-terrorising one another. But I'm quiet as anything (and so is everyone else in this block - until recently it was mostly old people who'd lived here since the 50s)

I'm almost tempted to have a baby and a dog myself just to spite those cunts downstairs - I'm 40, I could probably just about manage it. I've certainly taken up listening to loud music and putting the speakers directly on my (hard wood) floors. Probably makes the baby cry more but at least I can't hear it. Plus banging nails into a random bit of wood I'm keeping on said floor specially for the purpose. Hopefully they will get the message and move on to a proper house.

I normally like animals but I have fantasies about kidnapping that one, taking out its microchip and dumping it hundreds of miles away.

😂😂😂

OP, you’re going to get ‘em going with this.

I'm a single person in a 3 bed main door flat with garden. I don't really "need" a bigger house. I'm also on track to retire at 50 so doing fine thanks.

Would be better if you could live in a detached property so you didn’t have to listen to other people’s noise though, eh?

Sadly as we have learned from this thread, a detached house wouldn't entirely solve the problem as people put their feral kids and dogs into the garden to make noise.

You could do everyone a favour and go and live in the middle of nowhere. Problem solved!
