Black cats

So our local shelters keep putting out pleas for people to consider black cats as they are overrun with them.

Why? I mean I know about the superstitious element but surely that's not the reason?

I have a black cat and he was a rescue. His colour never crossed my mind. I mean he's harder to find in the house I suppose but that's hardly enough reason.

Black cats are no more dangerous or wild than any other colour so why are they so hated? Is it all superstitious reasons?

We were practically given a ticker tape parade for taking a pair of gorgeous 15yo black toms a home.

They were absolutely wonderful cats, we were blessed to have them.

I volunteered in a cat shelter and purposefully chose a black cat as no one had wanted this particular cat in 18 months. They are the light of my life!

I think they are unpopular partially as they are thought of as bad luck, and also they don’t photograph very well for social media.

Yes that's exactly the reason! Superstition runs deep.

The kind of person that would reject a cat cause of superstition, or because it wouldn’t photograph well should be allowed one anyway. Blessing in disguise.

Superstition isn't an explanation for Britain and Ireland anyway, since black cats are seen as the luckiest of animals.
