Anyone else loving the weather?

I'm so enjoying the cooler than normal weather. I can spend more time in the garden without getting hot and sweaty. Love sleeping in a cool bed. Can go for nice long walks. Less noise from neighbours. Win. Win.

Events have been cancelled due to heavy rain - not because it’s ’not sunny’:

Most people don’t want to sit outside on wet seats in the wind in 15 degrees with the constant threat of a shower. Most people, when booking their wedding in July don’t think ‘I really hope it’s chilly and windy and rainy.’ So yes that is disappointing for people.

Well, if they had looked at the averages, rather than assuming, they would see that July is actually wetter than February to June in terms of average amount of precipitation (the green line) and has a higher number of wet days than April-June, coming very close to February and March (purple line under the green).

And the heat can ruin events too... I have been to a wet wedding in August, where all that happened was the bridal party got some pretty cool shots with rainbow umbrellas and one where it was unbelievably hot and the groom passed out.

Well you’re all telling @Delatron to stop talking so maybe you suggest some?

I've never said that at all.

WmFnKdSg1234 · 07/07/2024 16:30

I think the number of daylight hours is what I need/love. If the winter had more daylight I would be able to cope better.

It does seem as though the weather is back to April showers.

At least I am not cold during the day and unable to sleep at night due to the heat. The temperature is just right for me 😎

Yes, same here. It's the daylight hours that affect me more than the temperature. Though to be honest, I'm not really a fan of extremes in either direction. Daylight 7-7, temperature 18-20 all year round would be perfect 😅

But there's absolutely nothing anyone can do except make the best of it!

(I will however be moaning if we do have a heatwave - though won't be derogatory towards others who like it).

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 16:45

@Delatron But you haven't just done that. You've been scathing about people enjoying this weather. Making inaccurate assumptions that they all want rain every day. That they don't feel empathy. You are so so bitter about it. So it's just you I'd like to block 😆

Most other people have been able to express their dislike of it without attacking the people that do.

Just let people like what they want, and have a thread to come on where they can express that. You should find the threads about hating this weather.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 16:47

@Namechange746498 "But there's nothing we can do except make the best of it!"

EXACTLY! No-one has summoned this weather. We are given it.. and it's up to us how we deal with it. Best to try and make the best of it instead of being miserable.

Do tell people how to make the best of a house riddled with mould, endlessly sick children and more expensive food..? I’m all ears?

I don't have an answer to that. I'm very sorry for anyone in that position. Like all the other people for whom I've already expressed sympathy. It doesn't change that I am personally more comfortable with the current weather. Like I said, if it changed and got hotter and drier for weeks on end all through the rest of summer I'd be personally far more uncomfortable and unhappy but I would accept it as a fact of life and something that has benefits for many people.

I wouldn't come on to a thread titled "anyone loving this amazing summer?" and tell everyone on it they were wrong. I'd just be winding myself up.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 17:23

@DappledThings Well said, again. They're torturing themselves.

Well no because you get your preferred weather 90% of the time. So wouldn’t have a leg to stand on.

That’s the difference - it’s nowhere near equal.

Why does it have to be equal? Nobody has asked you to be enjoying yourself more. You're asking us to be ashamed of not being unhappy.

If I go on holiday 10 times and 9 times it's great but the 10th is shit am I not allowed to complain about that because I've had it my way 90% of the time?

Well, actually I don't get my preferred weather 90% of the time as I don't like cold weather either.

My preference is for temperate conditions and actually, we haven't really had a proper Spring for a few years (it seems to go from freezing to boiling within a week) so probably why I am welcoming the Spring-like conditions (even if it is in Summer!).

Michiru · 08/07/2024 06:12

The 3 consecutive days without rain in 2 weeks' time appear to have vanished.

I was so bloody low in October last year because I suffer from SAD and the summer had been non-existent then.

It does look like another one where we had a week of warmth in June and that's it for the rest of the year.

reluctantbrit · 08/07/2024 07:45

DD is cast in an Open Air theatre from the 16th onwards for the week. I wonder if I should pray now to the weather god (any ideas what kind of offerings I should consider???)

I start to think that I would be ok with the temperatures if only the rain would stop, I love rainbows but even that gets old if I see them so often now.

Our patio needs urgent repair to avoid getting hurt by some breaks in the stones but we can only do it if it is dry for a couple of days and we don't have time under the week.

virgocatlover · 08/07/2024 18:07

I wish we had some sunshine. I can just about cope with the cooler than average temperatures, but if we had sunshine it would be so much more bearable. We have had dull rainy conditions for days now and it looks set to continue all week. It feels like late September.

RampantIvy · 08/07/2024 18:25

We have had a decent day today. It didn't rain. We also reached 19 degrees with a fair amount of sun.

Iamtarticus · 09/07/2024 07:03

Sports day cancelled today due to thunder storms and rain predicted. I have 2 happy children (they love sport just not competitive sport). Not happy about walking to school though 🤣

RampantIvy · 09/07/2024 07:21

Absolutely pouring down today 😫

Same here. Everyone on the morning commute is battling with an umbrella and wearing their big coats again. If you took a picture today and asked someone to guess when it was taken nobody would guess it was almost mid July. Sad

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 09/07/2024 08:30

Day 4 of drenching non stop rain and wind. Tumble drier on again, pram wheels being wiped every time we leave or return from the house, mud down the hallway from shoes and wellies, I’m desperately thinking of what I can do with the kids on the summer holidays as we only have a courtyard garden and it will no doubt piss with rain

lollipoprainbow · 09/07/2024 08:51

Weird as it sounds I don't mind the rain if we can't have sun. It's the gloomy, windy weather I can't stand.

Bloom15 · 09/07/2024 09:09

Nice day yesterday and today absolutely teeming. Just got soaked on the school run. Warm as well so sweaty and wet

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/07/2024 09:16

The slimy bastard slugs in our garden are certainly enjoying the wet weather.🙁

Same. All my fruit eaten so far. Not a single strawberry without one of them inside or already eaten holes into. And I've had a shitton of bees visit them, so have had a huge supply.
