Anyone else loving the weather?

I'm so enjoying the cooler than normal weather. I can spend more time in the garden without getting hot and sweaty. Love sleeping in a cool bed. Can go for nice long walks. Less noise from neighbours. Win. Win.

I’m in the SE and it’s 16 today (as a high). If you’re in a micro climate somewhere that’s 23+ degrees then please share. Otherwise these temperatures are disappointing for summer, especially with the wind and rain thrown in.

Nope, about 16 here. Feels much more in the pockets of sunshine. I entirely accept and understand that some people like it at least 8-10 degrees more. But I don't, which is also an acceptable viewpoint.

I'm not saying everyone should be enjoying it like this but it's weird that people are told they are unreasonable for liking it.

No you are being pulled up for saying it’s been “quite a lovely summer so far” when it hasn’t been at all.

Right so 16 in summer. Most people don’t think that is summer weather. You do so that’s fine. But it’s below average for the time of year and requires a coat.

The majority of the population do not think we are having ‘a lovely summer’.
Only those that like rain and wind and cool temperatures (and don’t care about all those outdoor events/weddings/ concerts that have been ruined).

Which for me it has! That's what I'm saying. I entirely understand it hasn't been for many but I am allowed to consider that what I've experienced has been lovely for me

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 14:25

@DappledThings Well said. This has been a lovely summer for many as they aren't uncomfortable and suffering. Too many people on this thread are so small minded, not understanding that different people like different things. I don't criticise people for loving heat..

You didn’t say that though, you made a blanket claim that it has been a lovely summer no caveat in your statement, you said it’s been a lovely summer in your area, I’m pretty sure the locals wouldn’t agree with you, it’s just your opinion.

It does indeed sound shit and disappointing and annoying if you're in a bit of the country that's been truly awful but here it's been a reasonable mixture of rain and dry without getting too hot so really quite a lovely summer so far.

Oh give over. It’s been shit weather for over a year now with little respite. And last summer was awful too. Yet you begrudge people a few weeks of warmth. You’re the selfish ones.

If the tables were turned and it had been hot and sunny for 11 months I’d welcome some rain. Not you lot though. You don’t care about all the events that have been cancelled? Just as long as you get your cold and wet weather every single month…

Oh sorry, I didn't realise every statement on here had to be caveated with "in my opinion".

Given that experience of weather is entirely subjective I would have thought that was obviously a personal opnion but mea culpa.

When you are making blank claims, yes you do, your opinion is not fact.

Not what I've said at all. I've said more than once I have sympathy for those for whom events have been cancelled and who have been experiencing worse weather than has been here.

Nor do I begrudge anyone anything. I'm just saying I'm enjoying it. But apparently not being miserable is offensive.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 14:31

@Delatron So many false assumptions because you're so keen to get your bitter words out..

I never claimed it was hard, I just find it immensely irritating and I was happy to be out of an June afternoon not needing to worry about it. It wasn't cold, it was cool for the time of year but light jumper weather, not hats and gloves.

Same as I've preferred this week so far to last week as I've not had to remember to get sun cream on the DC before school.

I agree!

Suncream before school is just another thing to think about/do.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 14:34

@DappledThings I know, these posters are so bitter that everyone isn't joining their misery.
It's entirely possible to feel empathy for those affected by the weather, while also enjoying it on a personal level. Same as the heat lovers will enjoy the heat but feel empathy for those struggling.
People are allowed to like different things. No-one controls the weather.

Most people are pretty pissed off with the weather (apart from sofa snugglers only to be found on here). Yes I’d be pretty miserable if an event that I’d planned for months had to be cancelled. After a shit summer last year. We’re allowed to moan.

Many of us have SAD. We had no respite last summer as it was pretty bad. Then winter and spring were duller and wetter than usual. We are now facing another summer wash out and straight in to autumn and winter dark and cold. So yes I will be annoyed with anyone who claims it’s ’a lovely summer’.

You can not enjoy heat without being completely tone deaf.

Not sure saying I have sympathy for those who have experienced really awful weather or had things cancelled and that I understand it's a nightmare for farmers so is tone deaf. Nor is saying it has indeed been, for me, a lovely summer so far which, whether you like it or or believe it or not, is my actual experience is tone deaf either. I'm sorry it's been poor for you. I acknowledge it would be better for farmers and those holding events in other parts of the country if the weather is warmer and drier. Me saying I'm personally quite happy doesn't negate that but apparently only everyone being miserable is the acceptable experience.

Namechange746498 · 07/07/2024 14:44

RampantIvy · 07/07/2024 12:59

I think all the posters who love this awful weather must never spend any time outside, are extremely introverted and hate any kind of community event.

We have had loads of stuff cancelled, and the charities, churches, schools and other organisations that benefit from various fund raisers are all struggling; not to mention the disappointment the organisers, helpers and visitors of these events are facing.

I prefer this weather to anything above about 22 degrees and we've just spent all morning at a farm 🤷‍♀️

Yes, it was raining on and off (sometimes quite heavily), but we had coats, the children had waterproof trousers and wellies and there were some bits undercover, including woodland with tree cover.

It was about 17 degrees so not really cold and we all had a nice time. To be honest, it's easier to be out and about in this kind of weather than in a heatwave.

Agree, these people get 10 out of 12 months of the year exactly to their dark, damp, depressing liking and now they want to gloat about getting 12 out of 12 🙃

Of course people will be pissed off. I think it’s unnatural to want to huddle on the sofa year round and actually quite sad.

We’re designed to be outside, in the sun and warm. We need vitamin D, we would freeze to death in large numbers if we didn’t have central heating, we literally have artificial light indoors to replicate outside. You get ill from not enough sunlight. Yet these people think it’s great we barely see the sun and the weather is the same as it is close to winter.

To me they go down with the people who refuse to speak to another living soul ‘because I don’t like people’, develop migraines from the sound of people talking at normal decibel and develop thrush just by walking past Superdrug

KarmaKat · 07/07/2024 14:46

I love this faux autumn! Said to my husband it felt like Christmas was soon yesterday. So grey and rainy.

I much prefer the winter months though so this is a dream!

Delatron · 07/07/2024 13:19

I think only the cosy, lazy sofa brigade will agree with you ‘that it’s been a lovely summer so far.’

I don’t want to wear a jumper in summer. Yesterday was horrific down here - wind, rain and about 15 degrees. Same Friday, same today. I’d love to have the ‘hassle’ of rubbing a bit of suncream on rather than having to ruin my lovely outfit (new dress) with a big coat and an umbrella. And I was still freezing and we couldn’t sit outside.

Nope, I much prefer this weather to high temperatures and I hate being in all day.

But I find it a lot easier to be out for longer in cooler weather than a heatwave, which is just exhausting.

(But I'm talking about being active outdoors with children, rather than just sitting in a pub garden).

Jellycats4life · 07/07/2024 14:50

I’m sitting downstairs and it’s so f-ing dark we practically need the lights on. I’m am so fed up with it.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 14:51

@Delatron Stay off these threads then because people will talk about how they enjoy it. You're seeking it out and getting more riled by it. People aren't going to stop expressing themselves, it's not rubbing it in anyones face. So best to stay away for your own mental health.
