Anyone else loving the weather?

I'm so enjoying the cooler than normal weather. I can spend more time in the garden without getting hot and sweaty. Love sleeping in a cool bed. Can go for nice long walks. Less noise from neighbours. Win. Win.

Yesterday was horrific down here - wind, rain and about 15 degrees. Same Friday, same today.
Which is why I said if you're somewhere it's really been shit then I agree, sounds disappointing. But it hasn't been like that here so for me, where I am, it's been lovely. Today has been some rain, bit of wind, loads of sunny spells. Dog jas been walked in wet muddy woods and loved it. And it's cool at night.

Same, but substitute dog for children 😅

Nope, I much prefer this weather to high temperatures and I hate being in all day.

But I find it a lot easier to be out for longer in cooler weather than a heatwave, which is just exhausting.

(But I'm talking about being active outdoors with children, rather than just sitting in a pub garden).

Sigh. I don’t want a heatwave. There’s something in-between 16 and rainy and windy and 30 degrees. A temperature that makes outdoor events slightly more pleasant and less likely to be cancelled…

I'm not saying everyone should be enjoying it like this but it's weird that people are told they are unreasonable for liking it.

No you are being pulled up for saying it’s been “quite a lovely summer so far” when it hasn’t been at all.

But some people's perspective of what constitutes a "lovely summer" are different.

I, for example, would not consider a summer with weeks of temperatures 25+ a "lovely summer".

24 with clear skies would suit me just fine.

I'd be content with just 20 at this rate. The forecast here for the next 7 days doesn't show it getting higher than 19 degrees. Added to that we have one days out of 7 where it's not forecast to rain. Sad

Delatron · 07/07/2024 14:57

You must understand- if you did a survey yesterday of people at events - such as Sliverstone, Henley Regatta, weddings, concerts and asked them ‘are we having a lovely summer?’ Most would have emphatically said ‘no!’.

It’s so unusual to want rain and cold ALL year. Don’t you even want a little change? I like warm but I still want some change in the weather. I still want a cold crisp day, or a storm. I don’t want warm and sun every day ( but a few consistent weeks in the summer would be nice)

I understand that people suffer in the ‘heat’ but really you want cold and rain every single day of the year? So dull.

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 07/07/2024 14:45

Agree, these people get 10 out of 12 months of the year exactly to their dark, damp, depressing liking and now they want to gloat about getting 12 out of 12 🙃

Of course people will be pissed off. I think it’s unnatural to want to huddle on the sofa year round and actually quite sad.

We’re designed to be outside, in the sun and warm. We need vitamin D, we would freeze to death in large numbers if we didn’t have central heating, we literally have artificial light indoors to replicate outside. You get ill from not enough sunlight. Yet these people think it’s great we barely see the sun and the weather is the same as it is close to winter.

To me they go down with the people who refuse to speak to another living soul ‘because I don’t like people’, develop migraines from the sound of people talking at normal decibel and develop thrush just by walking past Superdrug

I'm not a sofa snuggler (actually pretty difficult to be with very active young children!) and I much prefer being out in this weather than a heatwave.

Delatron · 07/07/2024 14:59

It’s not a choice between heatwave and rain! There is a middle ground that most of us like.

I have a dog, I run. I don’t want a heat wave. I just want it to stop raining and warm up a bit!

But why does it have to be either or? No one is begging for a heatwave we'd just like some dry days where you don't have to lug around a coat.

Okay, well it's still easier to be active for longer in this weather than 25 degrees and sunny (especially as the feels like temperature will be several degrees higher).

Again doesn’t have to be 25 degrees. Just warmer than 16 And not blowing a gale with endless rain.

If the Met Office declares it has been a lovely summer, i.e can be objectively measured then fine, from randoms on Mumsnet, no.

Who has said they want rain and cold every single day? And where has it been like that?

I'm in Yorkshire and there's been loads of sun. I'm out and about every day. It's just been cooler. Yes there's been more rain, but lots of sun too. No events cancelled and I go to loads with my kids and through my work.

Nope, but cold and rain every day hasn't been my experience of this summer so far at all. It's been cool, wetter than normal but not every day with a few days of hot and dry. Today is about 15/16 with some heavy rain, a lot of cloud cover and some sunny spells. That's not unpleasant to me.

Okay well then, the weather where I am has been between 16 and 20 most days recently, some sun, some rain. Not consistently sunny, but not really "blowing a gale" and not "endless rain".

It's been perfectly fine for being outdoors and preferable in my opinion to constant sun.

Yes, exactly this.

Delatron · 07/07/2024 15:13

It’s not perfectly fine to sit outdoors in cold and rain and wind.

It’s fine to walk the dog in and run in. But not fine for sitting outside or for weddings/concerts etc.

Well then, it works the other way too. The Met Office doesn't use subjective language so wouldn't say that about hot and sunny weather either.

Agree, who wants to wear a fucking raincoat to a wedding? These people are misanthropists I swear

They must make up 0.05% of the population. Never met anyone in real life like this. I don’t know why I bother. They are a strange species…

Sounds wonderful. Bloody hell.

I’m not talking about sitting in the woods in the rain watching your children play. So short sighted.

Yes you love it. You’re very much in the minority and most of the country is quite pissed off. Especially those with outdoor events cancelled and ruined. But little old you sat under a tree in the woods - you’re happy. So that’s all that matters.

spikeandbuffy · 07/07/2024 15:20

I just want to be able to throw jeans and a t shirt on and go out without a coat, jumper and umbrella
Or maybe wear sandals
