Anyone else loving the weather?

I'm so enjoying the cooler than normal weather. I can spend more time in the garden without getting hot and sweaty. Love sleeping in a cool bed. Can go for nice long walks. Less noise from neighbours. Win. Win.

I just want to be able to throw jeans and a t shirt on and go out without a coat, jumper and umbrella
Or maybe wear sandals

Go sit in the woods in the rain. It’s fine!

Sounds wonderful. Bloody hell.

I’m not talking about sitting in the woods in the rain watching your children play. So short sighted.

Yes you love it. You’re very much in the minority and most of the country is quite pissed off. Especially those with outdoor events cancelled and ruined. But little old you sat under a tree in the woods - you’re happy. So that’s all that matters.

Nobody has said that's all that matters. Again, it is entirely possible to feel sympathy for those experiencing worse weather and for whom specific events have been affected whilst still being quite content about personal experience.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 15:28

Just ignore @Delatron, they talk in extremes because they are consumed with bitterness about it, and can't stop coming back to these threads. They don't listen to what people are actually saying.

It’s not a choice between heatwave and rain! There is a middle ground that most of us like.

I have a dog, I run. I don’t want a heat wave. I just want it to stop raining and warm up a bit!

I agree. The rain lovers don't seem to realise there are temperatures between 15 and 29!

I really hate temperatures over about 23 but I also hate this wet, windy and chilly weather. It has only been 15 or less where I am for what seems like forever.

I want some sun. I want a whole day without rain. I want to be able to hang my washing out and not have to use the tumble dryer or have it draped all around the house. I want to be able to wear summer clothes.

I don’t think being pissed off about endless crap weather is being ‘bitter’.
And no you’re not sympathetic- you have a real air of ‘I’m alright Jack’ quite shocking. If the tables were turned I wouldn’t dream of posting on a thread where people were struggling in a heatwave saying ‘oh I love it’. I’d read the room.

You two enjoy your endless rain! The rest of country is pretty pissed off. Call
that bitter/miserable. We are sun starved and it’s not good for people’s mental or physical health.

Well, I'm also sitting outside now and it's not raining.

Not being sunny doesn't spoil most events.

And actually, we've had events cancelled (sports day, summer fair) for being too hot. So swings and roundabouts.

DappledThings · 07/07/2024 15:42

But this isn't the equivalent. The equivalent would be someone starting a thread saying how much they were struggling with the lower temps and increased rain and it making them unhappy then people coming on saying they are quite enjoying it.

That would indeed be mean and unreasonable but that isn't what this is, it was started as a thread for those who are content and you don't like that anyone is content. You must have known from the title what the deal was.

If anyone's not reading the room I'd say it was you.

Events have been cancelled due to heavy rain - not because it’s ’not sunny’:

Most people don’t want to sit outside on wet seats in the wind in 15 degrees with the constant threat of a shower. Most people, when booking their wedding in July don’t think ‘I really hope it’s chilly and windy and rainy.’ So yes that is disappointing for people.

It’s not just our feelings.

Our summer crop has been absolutely ruined.

Endless events have been rained off.

Animals in the fields are going lame.

We usually rely on stocking up on vitamin D to see us through the winter, it’s essential for our health.

We can’t even hang our washing out. Millions of tumble driers will be going as we speak because in the height of summer we can’t even dry our washing outside.

It’s adding to the severe mould problem in housing.

Seasonal illnesses are now year round as they spread in damp mild conditions. Babies and toddlers are really struggling with chest infections, RSV and respiratory disease far more than they used to.

More people will book foreign holidays to get some sun and add to air miles, exacerbating the issue.

But yeah go ahead and embrace the pissing rain because clearly it’s impossible to sleep in anything over 10 degrees.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 15:46

@Delatron This thread is for people loving the weather 😂 it's in the title.
I don't want constant rain.
I've said I have empathy for people who don't like this weather.
There are many people enjoying this weather, not just 2. Read the thread.
I think you have lost the ability to read. And you are attacking people who enjoy a different thing to you. Maybe put mumsnet down for a bit

Yes - such an impact on so
many people. But they are just ‘bitter and moaning’.

I’ve noticed lots of RSV around in babies late this year. What a worry.

This thread started in June. Things may have changed now. Yes it’s just me that wants warmth and sunshine. Can’t see anyone agreeing with me at all…

You're really getting very silly now. Nobody has for a nanosecond suggested that you are the only one who would prefer different weather. Expecting to find those people on a thread specifically looking for people who feel differently is somewhat illogical.

It's not those of us who are content who are taking every statement as if it's pretending to be a universal truth.

What block people who are pointing out the businesses and people suffering in this weather? So you can carry on with your silly smiley face? Says everything we need to know about you…

Living it is bloody awful. My 1 year old is on his 2nd round of antibiotics for this fucking cough and has lost 1kg. All of my family bar me came down with it 6 weeks ago and are still hacking away.

Everyone crowing about the weather will feel very differently when they’re paying for more expensive food in the winter, catching respiratory illnesses as an elderly person and their house develops a mould problem which is becoming more and more common.

Totally acknowledge they’re not making the weather happen. But it’s a bit like posting ‘anyone else love being wealthy when everyone else is poor?’ and then being aghast most people think they’re idiots. It’s not just about enjoyment (although that’s probably the main complaint), this weather is seriously affecting human and animal health and it IS infuriating to hear all these human slugs banging on about how great it is to live in the cold and damp year round.

Well said.

Hearing contentment as crowing is just as subjective as whether this is dreadful weather or not.

Yes, there are issues with it being as it is. Again, I have every sympathy for those experiencing them. Doesn't make the claims of it having been continuously dreadful everywhere for months on end any more accurate or make me want to experience temperatures any higher than I currently am. Should it suddenly get far drier and hotter for the rest of the summer I would personally be less content but I would tolerate it as necessary for crops etc. None of which mean it is unreasonable to not be miserable right now.

Just be content then, quietly. The thread is an invitation for people who feel rightly pissed off.

Are there any other topics that aren't allowed to be discussed under these rules or is it just weather?

I still find the very idea of Brexit really upsetting. It makes me sad and angry that it ever happened and I feel limited by it.

When someone starts a thread titled "Anyone else think Brexit has been amazing"? I ignore them. I don't go on there angry that not everybody else agrees with me.

What's the difference between that thread and this one?
