Rest in peace, Michael.

SloaneStreetVandal · 09/06/2024 10:04

Dreadful, and incredibly sad, news. My only thought/hope is that it was quick, and he didn't suffer.

Rest in peace Dr Michael Mosley.

Lilacdew · 09/06/2024 10:04

Heartbreaking for his wife and family. To go away with your husband expecting a holiday and returned bereaved. That poor woman.

On the previous thread a poster said he made the most of his life, he helped millions of people. His legacy will last.

The body was found literally next to a fence into a resort so it's not clear that he fell. He might've been trying to find a way in.

I’ve seen the footage now. It looks like he could have fell. It was very steep and rocky. Poor man. It’s so sad.

It also looks wide open so surprising it took this long to find him.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 09/06/2024 10:04

One of the recovery team is now being stretchered away with a suspected broken leg. It's clearly more hazardous underfoot than it appears.

But that would involve a major conspiracy amongst the people actually there filming the body being found

Did the mayor and all the UK journalists all decide to take part in some strange conspiracy? Was Twitter also silenced?

For what purpose?

Not a conspiracy. Just an agreement by journalists not to publish the story until 9am today. Really not that unusual!

Swollenandgrouchy · 09/06/2024 10:04

I’m the ERT report his body is not near a sheer drop. It’s against rocks yes, but a shallower decline. He is right up against a tall wire fence which is the boundary of a restaurant / bar near the beach. It’s as if he was trying to get in. So very sad. Hopefully it was quick in any case.

Aquarius1234 · 09/06/2024 10:05

Ok so sounds like he died soon after the day he went for a walk.
Not surprising it was the 1st day he was missing.

I am really so so sad to read this news. RIP Dr Mosley, you leave such a legacy. Thoughts with his family and loved ones.

Aquarius1234 · 09/06/2024 10:07

It seems like a fall but not from great height.
Even a small trip among rocks can be fatal.

Yes I do wonder why it took so long to find him. There were apparently boats searching the coastline plus drones and helicopters, he didn't appear to be hidden and was obviously visible from the boat that found him.
Poor man, so close to his apparent destination.

Swollenandgrouchy · 09/06/2024 10:09

@Aquarius1234 yes he easily could have slipped and banged his head, even if not from a great height. It’s so sad that he was so so close to the bar when it happened.

Shortfatsuit · 09/06/2024 10:10

So very sad. I loved his programme on Radio 4. I hope that it was a quick end and that his family can take some comfort from that - they must be devastated.

I'm glad that they have at least found him, and that all of his 4 children are on the island with their mother.

SabrinaThwaite · 09/06/2024 10:11

So close to safety. What a terrible shame.

AderynBach · 09/06/2024 10:11

So,so sad. Rest in peace Michael.

Have you not heard of news embargoes? It happens all the time. A news item not allowed to be released until a certain time or date.

Sunshinedaytoday · 09/06/2024 10:12

A very clever man. How sad.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 09/06/2024 10:12

I'm following a Times reporter on Twitter who is literally there right now filming. He says the discovery was made this morning.

Cattyisbatty · 09/06/2024 10:12

So sad 😭 i hope that it was quick for him at the end and he didn’t suffer. RIP Michael and condolences to his family. Such a lovely man to come to such a horrible end, he did not deserve that.

Wynterbun · 09/06/2024 09:45

The body was almost certain found yesterday which is why many news sources stopped updating their articles. DM then put up an exclusive headliner story saying they were searching the Abyss cave systems that stayed in place until this morning. It seemed like a very odd thing to run as "exclusive" because it's simply a fact and not an exclusive interview or footage. At the time they already know a body was found in there so obviously the next breaking news this morning was confirming the fact. So the poster on MN who noticed a lot of news outlets slowing down their reporting wasn't wrong, and she was slated for it.

Very sad and RIP.

I hope it this is true, it gave the family a chance to take in the news without the glare of press.

Noosnom · 09/06/2024 10:13

It's so sad. I'm relieved they have found him relatively quickly though.

Disturbia81 · 09/06/2024 10:14

So sad, RIP.
Sadly in these cases there is very rarely any hope.
So the member of the public who spotted some blue from a boat a few days ago, is that what led them there?

Zonder · 09/06/2024 10:14

BudgetQ · 09/06/2024 10:04

Not a conspiracy. Just an agreement by journalists not to publish the story until 9am today. Really not that unusual!

And yet another report says the body was found at 10.30 this morning so that doesn't fit with your comment.

ssd · 09/06/2024 10:15

RIP Michael. Lovely man, very relatable. Condolences to his family and friends.

Life can be so cruel.

Franticbutterfly · 09/06/2024 10:15

So sad to hear this confirmed. I credit his (and Jason Fung's) advice for helping me to lose 70lbs last year. I always really enjoyed watching his tv shows and reading his books, my thoughts are with his family.
