@IdisagreeMrHochhauser I was going to repost the BBC link to their reporter discussing what they'd been shown in the Aga marina CCTV.
It really cleared up my confusion and I wanted to help another poster who was simaraliy confused.
It's been removed for editorial reasons which I can understand as was probably deemed too sensitive.
Sorry, don't really know why I'm posting !

What do you mean? Do yog mean the police and medical system is incompetent in Greece? Just not sure what you are saying .

Oh that's interesting. The video description was far less graphic than what was written in some of the papers. Perhaps it was deemed to be too distressing to the family, especially as he was a BBC colleague.

What did the video description say?

I'm really upset to read the Standard report that MM was captured on film going down that rocky hill, and the footage was given to police soon after he was announced missing.

I have experienced Greece extensively outside of holidays, and for that reason, we never went on a family holiday to Greece as I didn't not have sufficient faith in the medical system/police etc and those running services.

Edited

I’m not sure how true that is to be honest.

Are they are saying they just handed over hours of footage from different cameras on their property without looking at it first?

Because if they did, why would they not look through it first? He arrived on their footage 2 hours after going missing so they wouldn’t have to have looked far.. and they would have known he was lying just on the other side of their perimeter fence.

it seems extremely convenient that this footage appeared the day AFTER he was found there, and only now are they saying that they handed it over to the police straight away.

i think it’s more likely they are trying to cover their own arses, they could have checked their own cctv and looked on both paths that lead to their property but they seemingly never bothered to?

No,absolutely not .

Treestumpp · 13/06/2024 14:15

The only incompetence was not spotting the body on the Saturday, but you can kind of understand how any scanning probably tailed off around the marina bar and focussed more on the exposed areas which made up the vast majority of that rocky area. I do wonder how much longer it would have taken if those guys on the boat hadn't just looked in the right place at the right time.

What do you mean in your post then?

Thisoldheartofmine · 13/06/2024 14:26

@SallyWD I can't remember exactly, it was just very clearly explained without drama and was a consistent narrative so I felt it was genuine. And the reporter said that the BBC had been shown the tape.
I suppose it being the BBC made me feel it was trustworthy.
It explained for me that he'd made it down the slope to the actual fence(I'd earlier misinterpreted the falling out of view as a fall) and that it took him something like 30 mins to move from a post to the next one . Whereas this would normally take ? can't remember exactly but say 5 mins. And then I think he collapsed. and
I think it also made clear the time of death as c. 4pm.

Thisoldheartofmine · 13/06/2024 14:37

@Passiflora2 I don't understand how you're interpreting my post.
I've read various posts on here and reports of MM moving down the mountain and being found at the fence.
It wasn't clear to me whether he'd stumbled and fallen half way down and whether he was conscious when he was at the fence.
Listening to the BBC report linked made it clear to me.
Is my mention of the BBC making you think I'm criticising the Greek media ? None of which I've seen. I'm really not.

Hi sorry I think I replied to the wrong poster! I was replying to a message about not trusting the Greek medical system.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 13/06/2024 15:10

The Hay Festival have posted to say that the interview he did at the Festival a couple of weeks ago - on how to live a good life - will be broadcast on radio 4 tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Thisoldheartofmine · 13/06/2024 15:16

Oh ok,passiflora, easily done.
I was a bit worried as I can say the wrong thing sometimes and cause offence unintentionally.Smile

Chenecinquantecinq · 13/06/2024 15:26

I think there’s some really interesting psychology going on with the interest in his death. It’s clear that many on here particularly those jumping on others for what they perceive to be any slights behave as if they knew him personally. There was some interesting reporting on his companies/businesses. The guy was clearly v intelligent and savvy but some of the company he kept wouldn’t pass much scientific scrutiny and some of the people named as close contacts are clearly out to make a quick buck from a gullible public. He was obviously v good at psychology (didn’t he train as a psychiatrist before never actually practicing medicine and moving to a media career)? but some of the reading on here seems to almost suggest canonization wouldn’t go amiss! A little perspective perhaps.

Waitingfordoggo · 13/06/2024 15:41

What sort of company did he keep @Chenecinquantecinq?

Cantonet · 13/06/2024 15:47

Are you talking about Tim Spector by any chance? They were very good friends apparently. Your post is innuendo heavy & not very nice.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 13/06/2024 15:52

Not sure what thread you've been reading but we've had people calling him elderly, arrogant, a victim of hubris... I could go on.

For me personally, he was a warm hearted and creative guy that I liked listening to and I am very sad that he came to such a tragic end. That's all the perspective I need.

Cantonet · 13/06/2024 17:51

So come on @Chenecinquantecinq spill the beans. You can't come on & make insinuations without proof.

I thought they searched by air and drones? I saw a terrible photo on Twitter which has made me really wonder how on earth they didn't see him from the air
It's not a criticism in anyway and it wouldn't have saved him but the way he looked to complete onlooker was horrifying due to being out in the blazing sun for five days I can't imagine how his family with ever reconcile that

Oh god. The photo you saw showed his body and how it looked? Thats awful. What an invasion of privacy for him and his family.

FrancisSeaton · 13/06/2024 21:32

It was from a distance but there was no mistaking what it was. I was shocked it's been used by several news agencies in other counties

So unfair on him and his family. 😢

Treestumpp · 13/06/2024 22:01

It was the zoom in on Greek media shared to UK networks, blurred out but still unnecessary.

MeinKraft · 13/06/2024 22:10

I've seen an American man has now gone missing whilst on a solo hike on another Greek island. Hopefully this search has a happier ending. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/greece-american-tourist-missing-michael-mosley-b2561739.html

Disturbia81 · 13/06/2024 22:36

@Booksandflowers Not a close up but it's unblurred and can clearly see some of the effects on his body. I really hope anyone who loved him in life hasn't seen it.
Other countries do seem more open with stuff like this but it's unnecessary.

I don't understand how drones didn't see him or anyone smell anything at the beach bar place. It's a mystery
