Yep I agree with PPs that Sunak sounds pompous and is interrupting but I would rather have that than a PM who can't stand up for himself and is nervous - that's no bloody good! I'm also a bit worried about Labour planning on raising tax for working families by £2000 - not sure how my DS and DIL will cope with that! He didn't deny it either?!

BearFacedCheek · 04/06/2024 22:05

The 45 second ‘rule’ is utter shite. It allows no room for debate. I get no one wants them to blather on for 10 mins. But there needs to be some time for them to give meaningful answers.

Sunak’s ‘the past is the past I’m all about the future’ is absolute bullshit. Yeah mate, the past 14 years of your gov has got us in this mess. Why are you only now trying to sort it? AND, his constant interruptions was just infuriating.

Why is Starmer so bad at this? An ex lawyer and barrister should be thrashing Sunak, but it seems the other way around.

because he doesn't have any ideas and he's not prepared to make difficult, challenging decisions.

EasternStandard · 04/06/2024 22:05

Xyz1234567 · 04/06/2024 22:04

God Starmer can't even answer the football question!!

He really fluffed that one hopeless!

MrsBungle · 04/06/2024 22:05

This was pointless. They didn’t have enough time to ‘debate’. Absolute rubbish.

Sunak “I’ve got your back!” 🤣 more like piss up our back!

Sunak utterly dreadful. I think Starmer needs more time - neither good or bad. None of the questions were left field though, so I'd have expected well scripted responses. But the soundbite responses, and 'my Dad was a...' end up feeling totally insincere from whomever. I'd welcome a longer session, in an AMA style.

Xyz1234567 · 04/06/2024 22:08

Not what I was expecting there at all. Thought Starmer should have been able to wipe the floor with Sunak. If he carries on like this, the unthinkable might actually happen.

Maddy70 · 04/06/2024 22:08

Starmer wiped the floor with sunak.

Goldenbear · 04/06/2024 22:09

hereforthistoday · 04/06/2024 22:00

I was fully expecting Starmer to wipe the floor with Sunak (given his legal training) but he's coming across to me as quite weak and unprepared.

Sunak is very polished and scripted but I think he's coming across better.

But that is because he attended Winchester College, he has mastered the art of delivery but is there substance behind what he is saying. In all honesty, his parting speech made me think he doesn’t care whether he wins!

MeinKraft · 04/06/2024 22:10

changeison · 04/06/2024 21:54

Sunak:
"if you think Labour are going to win, start saving"

Remember this. Pay attention. He's right.

And what exactly are we going to save? Half the country lives hand to mouth these days, thanks to the conservatives. Half the country has nothing to lose.

Can't believe anyone prefers Sunak over Starmer...we are clearly watching different programmes...

I can only assume we've had an invasion of Tory bots!

I am a floating voter but sunak came across as a raging twat

CissOff · 04/06/2024 22:11

Maddy70 · 04/06/2024 22:08

Starmer wiped the floor with sunak.

He was abysmal. And I’m a lifelong Labour voter.

I couldn’t tell you one thing he’s actually going to do. Whether you agree with Sunak’s policies or not, he actually articulated their plans if they stay in power.

no, he really really didn't

Ha Starmer was woeful

changeison · 04/06/2024 22:12

agree @CissOff Starmer was an absolute joke

Edge of the apocalypse politics - everything dreadful on the horizon- it is so uninspiring!

CissOff · 04/06/2024 22:12

Does anybody know what Starmer’s dad did for a living… 🤔 😉

Shouting over the top of everyone else, so they can’t get a word in, isn’t the ‘art of delivery’.

Starmer was measured, polite and realistic. Sunak was rude, rattled and very, very defensive. That was the debate I saw - I appreciate others will have seen it differently.

someoneanyoneeveryone · 04/06/2024 22:13

Just finished watching this.
think sunak had the edge but both were very poor at answering direct questions and woefully insincere when trying to interact with the audience members asking questions.

makes me very sad for the future of this country

He did deny it. He said it was 'nonsense'.

someoneanyoneeveryone · 04/06/2024 22:14

Can I vote for Julie Etchingham instead 😋

I agree. I don’t see anything wrong with how he came across. Do we really want another shouty rich boy or a charismatic womanising buffoon ? Or someone who may not be the best in this kind of situation but is polite and might just get the country out of the mess it’s in ?
