What’s your weight and height?

Ilovemycatalot · 02/06/2024 20:13

I’m 5ft 4 and after years of being overweight I’m finally down to 9 stone 6.
Recent conversation with friend who said I should aim for about 8 and a half stone for my height despite me currently being in the ideal BMI range.
just wondering what others are and if you are happy with your weight.
I realise we all carry weight differently so not a goady threat by any means.
For the record I was 11 stone before the weight loss.

I am 4 foot 11 I think
I've put on weight over about the last year but more over the last few months.
I don't know if it's to do with my dad dying and I just stopped caring as much.
I'm 8 stone 3 or at least I was this morning.
I'm not really happy no

Waist to height ratio is a good metric. Your waist should be less than half your height. Above that, it's likely that you have too much fat around your middle, which is what leads to ill health.

There's also a US military test that uses your wrist measurement as an indication of build - even when a person has too much body fat, their wrist circumference doesn't usually change that much.

BMI doesn't account for people with lots of muscle or a large skeleton. Or that men tend to be heavier than women at the same height and body fat percentage, again because they have more muscle. Weight is also difficult to measure accurately, especially on home scales. That number on the scales is only ever accurate within about half a stone for any individual measurement due to uneven floors and also changes in digestion, hormones and hydration.

Im trying to get my waist measurement down, in the way you describe. However, despite losing stones and stones and stones, it has remained stubbonly at 35 inches. It might be 34 at the moment, Im too depressed to keep measuring and keep seeing it not budging

However in my case I have peri menopause to battle and the fact that I have no waist. Ive never had a waist, Im not built with a waist, Im straight up and down like a mans body, no bum, horrible bum.

In terms of wrist measurement, that is very interesting becuase unlike my waist, my wrists have shrunk hugely, inches and inches have come off them.

I'm also about 5'4" and currently weigh about 10stone 3lbs, trying to lose weight at the moment, I would love to be 9.5stone again like I was in my late teens (I used to hover between 9 and 9.5 stone back then), but would currently be very happy with being a little under 10 stone. I've hovered around 11/11.5 stone in the past but always strive to stick around 10. I'm not exactly happy with my appearance, but some of that can't be helped without a tummy tuck for example (pregnancy ruined my belly but if I manually lift the skin up under my breasts I like how it looks again, it's been so stretched out of shape and is so saggy at the bottom).

Aria999 · 02/06/2024 21:43

I'm 5 ft 4 and my weight when it is under control is between 9 stone and 9 6.

I look slim at 9 stone and kind of ok at 9 6. Anything under 8 10 I look a bit weirdly skeletal.

I think it really depends on your build.

I am Asian. It's because brown and black people get diabetes and other diseases at a lower BMI than white people. Ethnicity does make a difference.

I know, I’m hoping they improve the way it’s calculated by asking the ethnicity every time.

Sdpbody · 02/06/2024 21:45

I'm 5ft4 and at 9 stone 5 lbs, I looked so poorly. I've always had an arse, but I was skin and bones on my face, arms and shoulders.

At 10.5 stone, I look good and I feel good.

Lentilweaver · 02/06/2024 21:47

Sorry @Cherrysoup I misunderstood your post!

Sdpbody · 02/06/2024 21:48

At 9 stone 5 I was still a size 12 on bottoms but easily an 8 on top. I'm quite boobie too and they stay the same regardless of size too.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 02/06/2024 21:50

5 ft 5 and just over 11 stone , size 10. I've been 9.5 stone before at my lowest as an adult and felt too skinny at that weight, but I do weigh heavy in general, always weigh heavier than I look due to muscle and broad shoulders.

You sound like a healthy weight, are you happy with your weight? If you are happy, I wouldn't take any notice of your friends advice to lose another stone.

intothewildmilkyway · 02/06/2024 21:58

5 ft 4 and 8 and a half stone. I was over 12 stone at my highest (not pregnant). I thought 9 and a half stone was my goal weight but I kept going and this weight works well for me.

I would agree that the same weight can look very different depending on build.

Livinginaclock · 02/06/2024 22:00

5 foot, 7st 11.

Sevencokesandasnickers · 02/06/2024 22:01

5’10 and 9 stone 6

UsernameRedacted · 02/06/2024 22:06

5ft 4 and weight is usually 10 stone, I have a big build - large hands and feet. I did get below 10 stone but several people told me I was looking gaunt, but that might have been because I was previously obese.
I'm generally a size 12 in clothes, at my heaviest I was 14st 8 and a size 18.

TheFormidableMrsC · 02/06/2024 22:09

I also saw a thing about wrist measurements recently. I have very slim but muscular legs and ankles. Strong arms, broad shoulders but absolutely no waist. I'm a size 12. However my wrists are enormous. I have to buy man bracelets and even the largest Pandora is not loose! I hate it. I was bought a beautiful bracelet for my 50th and had to buy an extender. It was a normal sized bracelet from a reputable jeweller! I've just got giant wrists!!

I guess my friend is a fitness fanatic so has quite a skewed idea on ideal weights.

In the kindest way, your "friend" doesn't have a clue. BMI is a useful guide, but it's not the be all and end all, and it does not work for everyone. It doesn't take into account muscle mass or bone density for a start. We all carry weight differently, just because she might feel and look overweight at a certain weight, does not mean that someone else will.

60sbird · 02/06/2024 22:11

5 ft 6
9 stone 6
size 8
age 57

Tisfortired · 02/06/2024 22:14

I am 5’5, 10 stone 4 and a size 12.

I’ve lost a bit of weight in the last year or so since having DS2. In august last year I was 11 stone 12 and a 14/16. My current weight and size is my comfortable weight.

Elfie23 · 02/06/2024 22:15

I'm 5ft 8ins and about 15st - really need to shift a good 3 stone this is the heaviest I've ever been!

Got down to 12st 4lbs but that was 8 years ago and it's all gone back on and more.

Finding it very hard to lose weight as my job is sitting all day. Single mum so do all the school runs and clubs etc so knackered by the time I sit down around 9pm and can't be bothered to exercise plus it would wake DD. Other option is to get up around 5am and do a YouTube workout and annoy my neighbours in the flat below 😂🙈

MountCaramel · 02/06/2024 22:16

5 ft 2 & 7.8 stones size 10 because I prefer a slightly loose fit aged 48.

Thesunisanorange · 02/06/2024 22:16

I’d love to be 9 stone 6 by autumn but right now I’m 11 stone and 5ft 3 and no I’m not happy with my current weight.

I was slim size 8 when I was 9 stone, at this weight I’m chubby but not huge. I wear a size 12. I was even heavier before and was wearing size 16 (which is big for my height) but have lost weight.

I don’t get why your friend said that though. Did you ask for her opinion on how much you should weight? Aside from the fact you’re within a healthy BMI what business is it of hers to tell you to aim for a lower weight? I think that’s very weird behaviour from a friend and sounds a bit like “negging”. I can’t imagine any of my friends saying anything like that!

It likely springs from her own insecurities she’s trying to project them on you.

ETA : also agree with pp that you should take BMI with a punch of salt. I follow someone on social media who is my height and 13 stone with a tiny waist and is far slimmer than me at 11 stone! It really doesn’t take into account body composition, ethnic diversity etc I’m aiming for a lower weight as I know I’m fat at this size and want to be slimmer but not necessarily because of BMI!

4ft and 30 stone. Or maybe I'm 6ft and ten stone.
Why on earth is there a thread like this?
Bit of stealth fat shaming perhaps?

Yep, it feels on here like everyone on here is skinny and size 8 and I just don't see that in real life.

Objectrelations · 02/06/2024 22:17

5ft 4 and 8 stone 5. I don't have much fat on me but I have a small frame so I feel really good at this weight.

Thesunisanorange · 02/06/2024 22:21

Not me! 😂

I hear you. Also secretly fantasizing about tummy tuck.

At the lower end of my weight range there isn't enough of it to really matter (though I still hate the teeny little droopy bit) but these days ALL the weight gain goes on the tummy so it can get really gruesome pretty fast.

Berlinlover · 02/06/2024 22:25

5ft 4ins and 8st 12lbs.
